Seth, the main issue I have with North Bend/Coos Bay Area is the wind, especially in the summer. This is probably the thing about this area that I don't care for (3:50) not the crime or homelessness!
No kidding about the wind,,only tourists go to the beach during the summer,,lived in Gold Beach for years and the homeless crazy people are out of hand there. Moved a few years ago to the valley,,don't have to drive an hour to get to the doctors or go shopping.

Lived in Bandon Oregon near Coos Bay. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. The most unfriendly people I’ve ever met.
So untrue. I lived there a long time and found the exact opposite
Visited last year, people seemed normal to friendly.
I live in Astoria. The population drop is possibly reflecting the number of homes that are now vacation homes that the owners visit (maybe) twice a year, and the homes turned into vacation rentals/airbnb's. There's a ton of them. It's not for lack of people wanting to move here. Seaside is..well..not what it once was 🤐. It wasnt that long ago that Seaside was national news when it was revealed the Mexican cartel has Seaside as one of their "spots" for trafficking.
REALLY?! HA! I never heard that before, and I'm a life long Oregonian! Interesting. You'd think it'd be Coos Bay given it's longstanding and historically accurate stereotype as the shady/drug port of the coast. Not Seaside. I suppose it makes some sense though, given Seaside for a long time was THE town everyone defaulted to for road trips and referring people from elsewhere as the "destination" town of the coast alongside Cannon Beach. The tourism, reputation, and look of it would all aid in given a innocent cover, while having a stronger base of possible and guaranteed "customers". Very few people choose to go to the south coast, especially Coos Bay/North Bend.
@TheCriminalViolin I agree about Coos Bay area. It used to (& I guess still is) considered the armpit of the coast. Seaside is referred to as the nearest armpit to us. Some may disagree, and that's OK, they can. The amount of crime(s) that are regular occurances there are numerous. I lived in Seaside twice over the past decade, never again. It does have an incredibly gorgeous beach, though.
@@1fancygirl Ecoli does give such a beautiful backdrop to the beach there for sure. I actually haven't made it south of Waldport yet unfortunately, but I'd love to get there and explore all over some day very soon. Seems like the part of our coast most natives think is the "least good" part somehow. To me, it is the most beautiful.
Gotta love how we have North Bend, which is south of Bend, while Washington has South Bend (but no Bend or North Bend). Lol. Makes sense. Probably was on a bender when they named them or something 😏
As a life long and multi-generational Oregonian, Newport has been my favorite place on the coast, alongside Astoria (though technically Astoria is inland by 4 miles). I've unfortunately not yet been to the South Coast (never been south of Waldport) but would love to spend plenty of time snooping around and enjoying myself there. Towns, and the wilds. Seems like the most picturesque and quiet part of the coast for sure! I won't out my other locations and towns though to keep them our own safe-kept secret from the out of state folks so they stay nice, quiet and peaceful haha.

My family once lived in Manzanita for 20+ years. The short term rental industry ruined the area! Some of my family members still try to survive living somewhat close to living in the area. Despite their earning $500 daily they still have just now been able to buy a manufactured house after waiting & saving for 20 years! Our insurance costs went down by 1/2 when we left the coast in 1998 for Dayton Or. The coast is no longer affordable for the working person. The taxes on our old house went from $1,100 a year to now > $4,000 a year for a 600' foot house with no garage or storage on a 2,900 sq. ft. lot! There`s no good health care available on the coast as well & for my elderly mother that was the primary reason to leave the coast. Tourism is not a viable means of supporting an economy. What the narrator does not tell of you is the HIGH turnover of residents once they find out about the lack of good health care services requiring them to come to the valley for medical care. No competition for fuel or food stores either. $$ for everything are way over priced compared to the valley. Manzanita alone has an estimated 40% short term rental housing stock which we know from experience DESTROYED our old neighborhood that had the mayor, firemen, teachers, and a Columbia river bar pilot all living next to us. My father was a master plumber who was constantly struggling against handy people making repairs & new construction without any knowledge of the codes. The drug scene was also very prevalent too. The experiences we could relate would curl your hair!

Just got back from a week stay at Waldport. Was looking at properties for sale. We saw many home for sale with 25 k price reduction one was reduced by 75 k in 5 months on the market. Nice reportthats
Living in Troutdale now, but if I were to move to the coast? It would be for the accessibility to seafood, so towns with fishing fleets would be my choice. *HOWEVER.....*
The _'Cascadia subduction zone'_ off the coast is a ticking time bomb, and I feel much safer up on the hill here in Troutdale.
I am a few block from Troutdale but I am sorry to report that if the Cascadia subduction zone goes NO where west of Mt Hood will even be here anymore. The entire west coast will be gone. Hopefully it will not happen in our life time so I would enjoy anywhere you want to be until that day.
Love you guys videos, always great content! I'm one of the 40 people that moved to Florence. Bought our house there in 2022. I disagree about beach access. It's even better here than other places because there's s bunch of access just north or south of Florence if you don't mind climbing a dune or drive to the abundance of uncrowded beach access parks between Florence and Yachats. You will get miles of desolate beaches. I understand what you're saying though Seth because Heceta Beach is the only easy access right in town.
Also there is north and south jetty beach access close to town

I wonder if some of the reported population decline for Astoria and Seaside is because homes that were occupied as primary residences have been purchased as second or third homes.
Oregon is for me Coco.
Newport is our favorite getaway place. Good restaurants, Nye Beach, the harbor, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, close to other coastal spots.

I think he's a Californian marketing Oregon to Calfornians and away from real Oregonians. We can no longer afford to buy a home in our own state. Thanks California. And thanks for tail gating! We just luv ya.
Gleneden, Lincoln City and Depot bay are my first choices when looking at living at the coast. Lincoln City probably comes in first on that list. It has everything and it is not a tourist heavy town which turns me off. I would never buy in Seaside or Cannon beach, both of which are cram packed with tourists all the time. Retirement to the coast is on my list.

@@lorielundgren7169 Not like Cannon beach and Seaside. Cannon beach is a nightmare to find parking and to get around in most of the time. Last time I was there we could not find parking within three blocks of the place we wanted to eat so we just went on down the coast. I can't walk three blocks so not a town I will visit soon again.
No jobs, high drug use in Coosbay. Astoria lovez Heroin and meth. If you want calm, beautiful nature. Any where between Florence and Newport is the up and coming area. But still underdeveloped. This is blowing smoke trying to sell you into three worst spots.. every part of the coast is nice to visit, each place for different reasons. Living there is a different story. Yachats is just beginning to buzz
The video omits the Coos Bay North Bend reputation as the meth capital of the Oregon coast. Sort of like Bremerton in Washington State
Calling the Oregon coast affordable is a joke. If you're rich, it might seem cheaper than some places. But job opportunities are all but non existent, and all are low pay.
Astoria has a lot of artsy shops, but you don't want to walk the streets alone during the day, or at all at night. The homeless problem is out of control.
Warrenton would be considered the wrong side of the tracks in the best of times.
Seaside is a S...hole.
Do yourself a favor. Stay away. I want to leave. But at least I live outside the cities, so since selling everything won't get me enough money to go anywhere. here I am.
The little coast towns have let the homeless problem get out of hand for sure. Take the jet boat upriver for the day, and come back to a hole in your tank and your gas drained.
The weather will always keep me out of the Oregon coast. I love the video you have here. Sunny skies and moderate weather. The reality is, it rains there more than anywhere I’ve ever visited. As bad as it rains in Portland, it’s even worst on the coast because of the blocking effect of the coastal mountain range. Big no thanks.

We live in the Medford area and are considering moving to the coast.
Too many parasites, too many dope growers, too congested, high taxes,
home prices obscene, too many fires. We are very fortunate to have owned our
current house for 11 years and a pittance for a mortgage. Sold our 11 1/2 acres
to distance ourselves from crime.
Originally from Monterey Peninsula Calif.. moved here 25 years ago before the
massive Calif invasion, and dope grower infestation (and hemp while hiding the dope grows.)

I love the coast, but won’t buy there because one day the Cascadia vault will go and that will be it for those cute little towns.
I hope you bring up the fact that All these towns are in tsunami zones if you're on the west side, and overdue for a 9.0 earthquake. Oregon Coast is not for everyone. Winters are long, gloomy, wet, cold. Some people move here and realize they can't deal with it. Astoria is nice if you get away from the town itself. That's just my opinion. Seaside is a dumpster.
