I'm honored to have one of my videos make a cameo in TMOTRR! Especially in a such a busy episode. Another great video, and as always we're already looking forward to next month's video!
Which one was it?
I can't wait for Caltrain emus enter service
Damn! Amtrak using Multiple unit stadler trains instead of a diesel hauled train? That was a surprise for sure.
It is time for the railways to say goodbye to diesel in the long term. Stadler's KISS trains are a good choice for Caltrain. With me in Berlin they also run on 2 regional express lines. And the fact that San Bernadino has opted for a hydrogen train of the type FLIRT is also OK. In the video link you can see the first train. czcams.com/video/EIPA1CX-9HY/video.html The recordings of the train were taken at Innotrans in September 2022 in Berlin. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven
But a welcome one...
HELL FUCK NO
@@Railfan-uf9mw slow down caveman, this is a major upgrade....
@@GovernmentOfLocany How is that an upgrade... There are literally less seats lol.
Some quick news for October, due to erosion around the tracks in Orange County CA, Metrolink and Amtrak shutdown service in that area.
I personally think those new green line cars look a lot nicer, actually.
(to certain commenters, opinions can differ between people. Nobody's forcing you to like or hate the new cars)
The strike really did put me in extreme shock
I agree.
All of this battery news is so painful... please just electrify the corridors already...
it's cheaper, better, well tested and also actually works
This is north america...everything has to be more expensive for worse results.
How about slapping a Pantagraph on every Diesel built Post 1975 and on every Hydrogen and Battery Electric Locomotives/MUs and call it a day
Listen to that Charger scream! Amazing traction motor and turbo sounds!
But its nothing compared to an F40PH's Scream
I saw the FLIRT H2 for California at InnoTrans, Berlin. It's quite a decent train.
Thanks for going in depth for many of these articles! September was a great month in terms of news, and it's looking like October is going to be veen greater! Also, I believe 1070 is supposed to be a heritage unit based on a few official concept photos I saw on a server.
I just came across this video, and I found this to be quite informative! Good to see so much news about the eco-friendly railroad vehicles. I also find it interesting that Amtrak could be using Stadlers on the _Cascades_ (which is now international again!)in 2026, that MBTX 1070 could be getting a new paint job, that MBTA is getting new Green Line LRVs, and that there could be a possible Boston-Montreal train as soon as 2025! Thanks for the video!
The MBTA had some e8s in an all black scheme with yellow grab irons and stirrups.
Absolutely grim. I appreciate reducing fossil fuel usage but like come ON the rocket equation doesn't just apply to rockets, north america needs to get over its irrational fear of caternary.
In fact, the GT 38H locomotives must be produced locally in Brazil, as is the case with other locomotives, and not exported from the USA. Great video.
You forget about URHS announced the restoration on the U34CH 3372
Would have been nice to mention Innotrans as where both the Stadler H2 train and the one for Brazil were shown ... as well as a lot of other new rolling stock from and for all over the world.
But did you know Stadler was build the factory in Indonesia?
wdtx1402 is a prophet. He predicted the Metra SD70MACH in that same livery!
Just a friendly reminder that battery locomotives, unlike hydrogen and diesel-electric, still cant operate as anything but shunting locomotives in rail yards or battery storage for longer trips.
The batteries just don’t hold enough energy to pull a full-size train. Best case scenario, the battery locomotives are used as regenerative breaking energy storage.
I find it perplexing that almost no foamer youtubers ever mention this in their videos.
I feel like 2023 is going to be a big year for passenger rail.
5:39 I wish Chicago gotten something like that with by Merging Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station and remodeling them
Awesome news
Looks like Amtrak's doing all they can until the class 1s ever let electrification happen.
Buying into battery trains just shows how BNSF would try to do anything but put the wires up.
How about slapping a Pantagraph on every Diesel built Post 1975 and on every Hydrogen and Battery Electric Locomotives/MUs and call it a day
Correction: 50 units are on order. CN AC44C6Ms #3300-#3349 are on order.
This series, format has a lot of value and potential for growth. I’d suggest spelling out the acronym in the title thumbnail. You’ll attract more viewers, as it’ll be easier for new viewers to understand the content before clicking.
What acronym? Everything is spelled out in the title
@@andrewreynolds4949 TMOTRR is an acronym
@@nathantzhang Oh, in the thumbnail. My apologies, I was looking at the title
awesome
Am I weird for loving how that GT38H looks?
0:45 I was not expecting that comment lol 😂
But I definitely agree
If Amtrak really wants to go zero emissions, they should probably go for electrification. But considering how the Class Is are especially, the complete control they have over the routes where Amtrak operates aside from Amtrak's owned lines, the likelihood of that happening is pretty low without them either paying to buy the lines, entering into some kind of partnership where they joint own them and take over maintenance, or some kind of national rail infrastructure corporation taking over like what exists in other countries.
I really hope something like that could happen, because we all know without someone else handling the rails, freight railroad management will continue to run the infrastructure and equipment, not to mention the employees completely ragged.
nice
I have some news for october, one of Metra's new SD70's just arrived at their facility and Progress Rail built their new GT38- hybrid locomotive for Brazil.
I forgot to mention as well that Amtrak has extended its Ethan Allen Express to Burlington Vermont
Maybe Norfolk Southern could order some SD70MACH engines for use on the Thurmond/Princeton line.
Aren't the Type 8 cars about a decade old at this point?
Canadian National AC44C6M #3300 (Former CN D940CW #2641) was tested and Is being readied for revenue service.
The modified UP scheme looks much better.
Meanwhile, I absolutely call BS on net-zero Amtrak by 2045 (at least for emissions; operating costs are a different matter!)
When will NJ Transit get their new locomotives?
@@mr.conductorfromsts4204 Wait till Alan Fisher Hears about this
For your next tmotrr the pittsburgh T red line is getting new crossings for the first time since 2012
Kazakhstan in 2021 has ordered 22 electric locomotives of type 2ES7 from Ural Locomotives and Sinara. This year now ordering again Diesel/Battery Electric Locomotive from Wabtec😂
Correction: Metra SD70MACH #500 was unveiled on October 11th.
Thank God the railroad strike here in the United States was called off, otherwise I’d be very pissed but praise the Lord I’m happy the trains continue to run.
The SD70ACE T4 is a platform that's gathering dust. Only UP, CSX and Progressive leasing has them. KCS was testing them out for a long time and now the possible merger with CP would squash that. In my opinion it would make a great hydro or hybrid locomotive .
Finally my patience paid off
I dont like the idea of the Montreal-Boston Overnight, that is when the freights run!
1:10 An EMD bell on a P42? That’s a first for me.
New tmotrr content‼️‼️‼️‼️
5:16 it may be a heritage unit
6:02 Electrification? Electrification? Electrification right? With real overhead catinary wires? None of that battery locomotive stuff right?
Please, all I want are some little wires. Is it too much to ask?
You know Amtrak had NEC with Electrification and caltrain as well
@Magolor like siemens battery powered venture set's
@@chariseaustin-lucy2039 Of course. It also existed before Amtrak was formed, I'm looking forwards to seeing Caltrain use their AEM-7
@@AndrewTheRadarMan me to, and I hope Amtrak plans to do more electrification in future
As a Chicago railfan, I’m kinda glad the SD70MACH is coming to life as metra has been talking about for years but to no avail. However I’m also pretty sad because these mighty behemoths are probably gonna replace those F40s me and the boys like.
Not at all likely....9 F40S are going to be rebuilt as all battery electric
@@trainandtruckmodeler786 yeah but literally gonna take 3 years. I’m not joking I heard recently
We need 4568 to come to Massachusetts
Well, with Metra SD70MACH # 500 revealed; we’ll have to wait and see how they perform.
Still, imo, an odd choice to have a Freight Locomotive being converted as Passenger Locomotive.
Gonna miss the old 7 model green liners. It looked like a streetcar from the past :[
What numbers will be on the BNSF SD70J locomotives? Also NS will probably use EMU hydrogen equipment.
Wasn't it revealed that the new SD70MACH is a heritage unit?
Union Pacific C45ACCTE #5395 wears a smaller flag and shield.
Union Pacific C45ACCTE #5282 wears a larger flag and shield.
Please put RS5T horns or K3LA horns on them and they’ll sound great!!!!
1:10 why does P42DC number 50 has a EMD bell?
You can't say the Type 10s were uglier than the Type 8 or 9s lol
Look better to me, in fact.
Where are the timestamps and the music?
My bad, just fixed the timestamp issue. I was in a rush when making this video and forgot to add the music
How did you forget UP 5511s move and ATSF 3751 back in service? Jeez
Battery electrics are a scam, zero emissions rail is a solved problem, just put up some gottdang wires.
At least hydrogen *might* be better at some point in the future (spoiler: it isn't yet). All this R&D into battery rail is just money that could go into wires, because all they're going to figure out is what we already learned in the 50s: Low frequency branch lines where wires don't make economic sense is the only place for batteries on a rail network.
They're never going to compete with true electrics because physics says batteries have to weigh more than electrons.
In terms of energy efficiency I doubt they'll even be able to compete with a heritage diesel for some time
How about slapping a Pantagraph on every Diesel built Post 1975 and on every Hydrogen and Battery Electric Locomotives/MUs and call it a day
Yep… the freight railroads can never see past their next quarter. As long as the Class 1s executives are making the decisions we won’t see meaningful upgrades to electric traction. Even though they would save money! Ridiculous!
I heard that Kawasaki went bankrupt and they're no longer making trains is that correct?
THE UP PAINT SCHEME FIX IS EVEN WORSE, WTF UP
Maybe Norfolk Southern could order some ProgressRail Joule SD70J locomotives for gravel service.
Lol, how? Batter locomotives can barely move the weight of their own batteries for any useful distance, let alone pull a gravel train.
Battery locomotives are designed as, and will be used as, shunting locomotives or battery storage for regen breaking.
They’re just not designed to pull trains solo on long distances.
Where's 3751? That happened recently
It happened in end of September probably will be in the October one
Surprised you missed the Mr. Best locomotives in NC
We’ll see just how far the H2 ZEMU purchases by Amtrak gets off the ground considering they’re multiple units that can’t quite go the length of the San Joaquins. Once Amtrak finds one run out of fuel on a run it’ll probably sell them to a commuter railway.
But most likely relegated to just services between Oakland and San Joaquin.
The San Joaquins is supposed to be truncated at Merced as soon as CAHSR starts operations. So this actually makes perfect sense. They’re supposed to meet every CAHSR train and offer a cross-platform transfer for Oakland, Sacramento, or San Jose service. (The ACE is also in the process of extending to Merced for the same reason.)
The FLIRT would be perfect for exactly this type of service pattern. They’re probably just getting a head start on using the new equipment to minimize delays when they actually have to run the service.
Not to mention it will run on a route that’s short enough so it doesn’t run out of fuel
How can amtrak keep spending so much money? They are broke
Trying to watch this there was 14 adds stopping the video. Very annoying.
As for the new Boston light rail cars,
I wish the designers understood that not everything has to be smooth, void of ornamentation, and soulless.
I hate this "modern futuristic aesthetic" which plagues great transit projects
on g
Most people like it. I, personally, have no desire to board a train that looks like it’s from the previous century.
Technology always moves forward.
The Charger debut on 30 is completely false. There was no genesis that failed. Right now 30 is hauled by one single P42. The reason 310 was on was because they wanted to do some pre-testing.
"Electrification is in the cards" is a completely false statement. Amtrak owns none of the tracks so they can't electrify lol.
Good point! After all, most of Amtrak's tracks are in the hands of the freight companies, which tend to favor diesel!
How about slapping a Pantagraph on every Diesel built Post 1975 and on every Hydrogen and Battery Electric Locomotives/MUs and call it a day
@@maas1208 Interesting idea!
I'm sorry, but nothing can be uglier than the type 8s
The electrification is FUCKIN UGLY SO AS ZERO EMISSIONS
GOING ELECTRIC ISN'T THE WAY & IT'S SO SHIT 🤬. I'LL MISS SMELLING THE DIESEL'S 😭
as a billionaire once told me and others in a interview with him and the whole Zero Emission car and vehicles
"Zero-Emission will never be a damn thing. You may not have it in your arrea, you are throwing it on some other poor bastard to deal with it, but in a much higher and worse state then you are. Zero Emission cars and vehicles will and can never be a thing because it's just not logical or possibile. Unless you want something shitty and unrealiable that you can only run for 1 hour."
Lol, that’s such nonsense! Look at France! Electric trains powered by nuclear - problem solved!
