- Hi guys, Tech James here,
For this tutorial, I’ll show you guys how to connect your PSP to any modern Wi-Fi, The PSP only supports the old WPA connection, so you will need to enable that in your routers settings to be able to use the Wi-Fi on your PSP.
This video is for educational purposes only.

Awesome! I just turned my PSP 1001 for the first time in at least 7 years and I was lost when I couldn't connect to my wifi.
This video was short and to the point👍👍
Men ... Where desame psp :D
@@matthewignacio8517 same I just got one and about to hack it and get all psp, ps1 Nintendo games lol
Mine five and since u wrote this 2 years ago 9 years ago
I can’t still figure out. I played digimon world like 10 years ago and I wanted to play again but I need to update everything. I tried this but my router don’t do to wpa1, from wpa3,wpa2 and none😑 and when I tried none it say that the time has passed out 🤷🏻♂️
i just finally figured it out. in case anyone is having problems and is not a computer wiz, here are some tips:
1) make sure you have "Enable Guest Wireless" (or similar) checked in your router admin screen. DUH - well, I did not have it checked and that was one of the issues I had.
For me, this was under the "Guest Setup" tab.
2) some people talked about the "b/g/n" options. for my router admin interface, that is under "Wireless Network Settings", and is the "Wireless Mode" option. Changing from "g+n" to include "b" devices does no harm whatsoever nor provides unpredictable performance. its harmless.
3) one thing provided by this excellent and helpful video was lowering the security one level (i forget the acronyms). but a poster below suggested that AFTER you create the connection in the PSP, you change the router security BACK to the top notch level. this seems counter-intuitive - i was thinking that when you try to use the web on the PSP, it would not connect. After restoring the max. security on my brower, turning my PSP fully off then on, and then reconnecting, it did work!
4) I do at times shut down the router and/or reboot it - I am not sure that might screw SOMETHING up and settings again have to be tweaked, like maybe the router security. if that is the case, i will edit my comment in the future.
Ive had this PSP for maybe 20 years almost and have treated it carefully. It's still in great condition and still works great for playing music that I've loaded into it. I played God of War years ago, but have no interest in games - I want to use it to stream online radio/youtube music as I move about the house doing whatever (like laundry and shit).
So I've gotten this far, but the error I have now after getting to youtube is "SSL communication cannot be performed. A handshake error has occurred in SSL". If anyone knows what that is all about, I'd be interested....
Thanks, Tech James, for getting me to succeed in most of the steps I needed to do in the first place. I am so happy I can give life back to my PSP!
Mine still said not supported
@@angelr1672 im sorry to hear that, but keep trying. i re-read my comment from 2 years ago and frankly, i have NO IDEA what the heck i was talking about! i do remember putting some good amount of time into this project, to get the PSP connected to my wi-fi and able to tranmit radio. if i can do it, you can, angel! keep trying by researching, and asking around. let us know if you find success.
Bro you're a freaking genius!!! Thank you so much! I got my son a psp for xmas and he was so bummed we couldnt connect. This worked even using my mobile hotspot!!!
How did you find the IP address with mobile hotspot buddy :)? Or are you on BT network?
@@kearonluka9642 I was planning on making a hotspot as well for my PSP with my phone. My router doesnt connect with the PSP even though it shows in my PSP's Network Connections.
I'll have to change my router settings which I didnt want to do by enabling WPA which I realized now. Only way to get my PSP to have an internet connection. I need internet so I can use PSN to download games I buy away from PSN on the PSP, as well as browsing the web.
@@Melbester9 Awesome thank you for replying :) I've sorted it now to, finally lol.
How do you do it using your mobile hotspot
THANKS, i really needed this video... i’ve had this problem for a long time
A long time like...
5 years?? if so... me too XD
RasenShuriken反重力 Noice to see you here !
Imhotep what a coincidence
But that's dont work
Thanks for the video. Just found it in 2023 and it worked perfectly on a VirginMedia box.
Couldn't have been more straight forward. Problem. Solved. Nice one, Tech James!
Guys if you still get an error after changing to WPA try changing your wifi mode to b,g,n.
Thanks for the tutorial this was a life saver!! I bought a whole bunch of games that I couldn't download!!
really cool you did this, i had this same issue and fixed it myself when i found my old psp lol
some newer Androids allow you to configure your mobile hotspot to no security, and changing the band to 2.4. I used my boyfriend's work phone's mobile hotspot (Android) and it worked on my PSP 3000!
The difference between this video and my PSP, is mine is a Japan import, so "O" is select, and "X" is to go back. I don't know why American consoles reverse those inputs, because the OG way makes more sense!
Seems like this isn't a solution for everyone, including myself. I can use WPA-1, but the PSP still says the security is not supported.
You need WPA-PSK (TKIP) WPA-PSK (AES) or WEP or an open network for it to work
@@connie2v904 that is stupid then very unhelpful video bc I'm sure everyone knows how to connect a device to their own internet the basic way
The year is 2022 .. everyone else told me change my DNS settings along with what you said. You said to do Automatic. . You were correct! I’m not sending my PSP3000 back now :) I spent an hour on my laptop going through my IP address and router settings.. once I got rid of the security code and went back to automatic settings the PSP connected in moments. Thanks a 1guyoutofaMillion
Thanks a bunch! I have the options to have both WPA and WPA 2 running simultaneously which helps a lot.
me too you use xfinity right? when I choose that and try to connect my psp I just says "connection error has occurred blah blah check the security settings for the network and try again" if you know anything that can help me please let me know

you helped me out once again tech James, great video
Great video, before watching this i was afraid i would have to downgrade my wifi's security. I'll still give you a like but i'll just stick to downloading to ps3 first and then copy to psp. At least the ethernet port on the ps3 will download the games faster and i down have to keep the psp on during the download process. Thanks anyway!
finally the wifi problem is fix, thanks james
using my phone as a hotspot and getting a dns error, tried manually typing my dns and same error
I have a question. Does the Wifi Deconnect to the devices?
Did u get it?
@@kittycatgirl1139 wtf this was not his question
I wanna know too
After watching this my PSP now recognizes my Wi-Fi (going from gray text [NON SELECTABLE] to white text [SELECTABLE] )
But now when it's all set up it fails to pick up saying "A connection error has occured"
I've tried connecting to "WPA-PSK (TKIP)" and "WPA-PSK (AES)" with the same login information and it's a still no go!
What could I be doing wrong?
I got a question for you what is WAPPAS (AES mean just asking what I am doing wrong kk
And what is SSID mean text me when you get this message kk and I don't now what I am doing worng
The SSID mean the WiFi password or the name of the Wi-Fi
What am I doing worng this is my first time doing this to a PSP for Wi-Fi
@@davidstrand1681 SSID means wifi name...
Thanks so much for this. 👍 I'd bought two ps one games off PSN and it kept giving me an error when I tried to put them on my PSP through the Ps3 as my PSP is modded, so being able to connect to the WiFi over the PSP did the trick and I could download them from the PSPs's PS store. 👍🙂
Just a reminder that some newer routers have the default set to g and n. Make sure you set your router to access b+g+n as the psp only recognizes b.
Thank you so much man, you just saved me another ton of hours.
how do u do that
@@alexp7824 log into your router and change it on the wireless setting via your pc or cell phone.
The access point was not detected
WHAT THE FOK?
Don't you need to change the router settings back to WPA when you're done?
PLEASE DO
Yes!!!!!! Else your basically screwed and can be hacked any sec
wdym
I wouldn't recommend using WPA unless its life or death cause you're leaving your router vulnerable. Great video nonetheless
No hacker is going to target someones home router, But WPA can be cracked.
Still better than WEP
or use a older router that you don't use anymore lol
Can u do this with a iPhone cause idk what to do and no laptop or pc??
That is the same thing I did when my new wireless boardband updated, in Mexico, we usually use INFINITUM as common Mexican boardband routers, I downgraded from WPA2 to WPA
But won't your router or IP address would be easier to get hacked if you changed it to WPA 1? What are the risks?
No hacker is going to target someones home router, But WPA can be cracked, But this is how you get your PSP on Wi-Fi in 2018!
I don't think anyone would have the time to hack your IP what are the chances also up u would be surprised how easy it is to look up someone's IP especially on video games
@@TechJames I'm a hobby hacker,
and all I can say is stay on wpa2...
I have a psp too, but please, be careful.
@@yasyasmarangoz3577 Then how can we get internet without updating?? Make us an internet mod hacker.
When i go to settings there isn't network settings :(
Is this works with cfw psp? i already added cfw to my psp, is this works with it?
Why use internet on PSP? That's useless.
Also if you have a ps3 you can connect your psp to your ps3 via the same usb that you use for your ps3 controller, then go to remote play then select “private network” and now that your psp is connected to your internet via your ps3, you can exit remote play and as long as your ps3 is on you have internet on your psp. It also means that you can use remote play but remote play has a huge response delay
Just tonight, I saw in the PSP manual (pdf) that if your PSP's Wi-Fi is On (switch up and LED lit) you can't charge the battery. Wonder how many people have been caught by that and thought their charger or battery was bad?
thats only with the 1000 model

Is there any reason to use PSP online in 2021? Just curious if any online servers are still up.
The PS Store for it closed in 2021. But I think some servers for games are still up.
Does it work with cfw
I suggest after using your psp online, turn your wifi router back to wpa2 because your router will be more valuable then it would be on wpa2, wpa2 the most secure for your router at the moment. Way more then wpa
Dosent work for me
In my psp there is no network settings inside settings😭😭
also quick note: you can also use your phone's hotspot to connect just make sure you have your security disabled on your hotspot and then you connect
Is it possible on iPhone o don’t see option for it
@@hollowfragment237 same
It's very insecure to change it to WPA and the internet speed will also slow down for WiFi users.
So just don’t connect it to WiFi? -_-
Yeah just use ethernet
Damn my psp go keeps telling me about the dns even using the cl on my Linux I throw in the #'s and still get the dns message...
WEP as far as I know was published in 1997 and got cracked in 2001, which means I as a pentester could brake into your WEP secured Wifi and do bad stuff so be careful!
Please like or do something so that everyone sees it!
WEP is insecure conparing to today standards. However it could not do harm to switching to WEP when going online and switching it back when you don't go online on your psp.
@@DragonboltBlastter Listen, I know what you're talking about but many users will keep their password, no matter if they changed the settings.
What that means:
Once I crack you WEP password and you do not change it after switching to WPA2 or whatever, I will still have your password.
So I simply login and do bad stuff.
This is a really bad idea, WPA is cracked really easily. Creates all sorts of security issues.
Hackers arent worried about PSP's. Lol.
@@carvinblack It's not about the PSP, it's about the router. If you set the security type to WPA, the router can be hacked into very easily
@@bearwordz Ahhh, that makes sense. 👍
@@carvinblack I can crack WEP and WPA2 (theoretically).
And I can confirm that WEP is much easier, so be careful!
Got the PSP 3000 and it doesn't work with my wifi 😒
Try Reset your WiFi
After opening a website i get 2 notifications
- you are about to be redirected from an encrypted page ( fine )
- SSL communication cannot be performed, handshake error
What could this mean?
Hey does this change anything for your existing devices that wer connected? .Does it change any security risks for your home connection?

This is no ban if psp is reworked ?
I got error psp ssl communication cannot be performed a handshake, 660 version

Good video
Hi, which psp model is more advanced version and best to buy, please advise. Thanks 😊
Um gosh no, do not use wpa, it's as bad and vulnerable as wep is, by changing that you just opened your entire network up to easy attack. Need a different solution this one is a clear security issue.
this doesnt help it says no access points were detected
I’m still getting connection errors
My psp said a connection has occurred the connection to the access piont time out excuseme can you solve this problem

I live in apartment and some of my neighbors wifi shows up but mine doesnt even show up. It does announce to other devices just not psp
Is there a way to use wpa2??? Cuz that’s all I have
Do you have another yt account I have heard your voice some where else
Could i make a different network on my router than change that one and none of the others would be affected and would be perfectly normal
Will changing this setting affect anything else I have connected to the router?

I can’t connect to WPA-PSK cause for me I don’t have an option like that. The only options I have are WEP, WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPA/WPA2 enterprise and no security.....someone please help me :/
my psp still wirten "error" can someone help me plz!!
does this slow down your wifi since its no longer wpa2
Ok so you might not answer but it says A connection error has occurred. The attempt to obtain the IP address times out
so.... u LITERALLY cannot connect a psp to a modern wifi signal unless u change ur router/modem settings? that doesnt sound like a fix tbh
Why that won't work!?
This doesn't mess with any other devices connected to the wifi before changing to WPA only?
The one I'm trying won't even scan. Once I click scan it says "internet error has occurred" then has an error code
Is it feasible (or even possible), to attach an old router to the current one in use, and use the old one for WPA while the main one runs as normal?
I just use my phone as a repeater. No password, only one device allowed. Works fine. 😁
Bro I don’t have network settings in my psp what should I do

You can transfer games from a ps3. It's much easier than doing all of this and screwing your net up anyway.
