- VAN BUILD - CARPETING
Fitting 4 way stretch carpet to the awkward places like the wheel arches. I also fit some rivet nuts into the existing holes so that I can attach extras to the van including an internal washing line. The items I used are linked below:
M6 Rivet Nuts Stainless Steel: amzn.to/3oxlLfn
M6 Lifting Eye Bolts Stainless Steel: amzn.to/3mTlFyr
Micro Carabiners Aluminium: amzn.to/41LGACs
M8 Lifting Eye: amzn.to/3Aj7K7X (This is for the existing nuts above the rear side doors)

“Where there’s a problem, there’s a solution.” That’s going to become my motto. Dang, what a beautiful build! In my estimation, you’re one of the best influencers/motivators on CZcams no matter what content you put out. Your vids always show perfection and when they’re not as perfect as you like, you laugh it off and poke fun at yourself. Is anyone out here surprised that you surf? Didn’t surprise me because you’re the renaissance man. I see you get your running from your pops. I always look forward to your videos. I’m sure I’m not in the target group, being a 65 year old lady but your content makes me smile, laugh and sometimes makes me hold my breath as in some of your hikes are intense. See you and Blue on the next one.
Thank you so much for your lovely words 😊. I’m just doing me! I’ll always be honest and not hold back my love for life regardless what I’m on with.
I second that - being a 61 year old woman - i really enjoy your videos and currently converting my own vw caddy maxi van to small camper. Love your videos !
You've got that van looking sweeter and sweeter by the day brother! She's definitely gonna be a beauty 👍 Cheers!
Yes I’m a few stages on now too and it’s looking good. I’m well happy with it. 😬
I love the idea using a tin can to make the panels to cover larger holes before carpeting.
It didn’t take me long to come up with the idea but sooooooo glad I did. It honestly works a treat👌
Not long now before you and Blue out and about touring the world.
Starting to look better than new 🎉 keep this standard of workmanship up and you will be inundated with requests for van conversions 🤩
I’ve the background of designing and working with my hands but I’ve learnt loads on this. I could definitely convert vans but I’d take too long aiming for perfection and not make any money😂
Hi Al 🧔🏻♂🐺 🚐 A great carpeting job done .. Again job well done and the washing line a great idea ..All in all the van is beginning to slowly morph into a camper. Keep up the good work Al .
from Tommy Yorkshire . 😊👌✨✨✨✨✨
I can't believe how much prep you had to do in stripping out the van to clean it, then all the insulation etc but its really starting to look the part now with the carpet, especially the precision over the wheel arches 👌
It takes some time and lots of thought with the build but hopefully it will pay off when I’m out in it travelling about with Blue🥰
Going to be a luxury home for blue you so excited for you when it's all done go on travels be so awsome ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can’t wait to get out there!!!😬😬😬
You are such a neat worker. It looks amazing. Everyone will be doing the tin can thing now! That’s genius!
Thanks Mandy. As I said ‘for every problem there is a solution’ and my brain is good at problem solving😬😬😬
The improvement in sound quality as you continued to fit more carpet was really noticeable in the video ,that's a top class Job Al 👏👍
I never really thought about that 👍👍👍. It’s definitely feeling better inside😬
You’re so talented.
8:30 well done Baldrick!
😂😂😂 I’m glad someone picked up on that. It’s what I used to watch as a kid with my dad.
That’s a proper factory looking job mate. Genius tips with the aluminium cans too 👌
Thanks bud. I watched a couple vids and saw people just taping the holes and thought it was a bit naff so I came up with the tin can idea😬😬😬
@@BUSHMANandBLUE 💯 it’ll catch on 😂.
Had to laugh when you said don’t judge me on that with the can of Redbull. I already had and was pretty surprised when I saw it 😂 Loving the care and attention to detail and the van is coming on great. Really looking forward to the rest of the build.
😂 it was out of date which proved I’m not drinker 😂. I’m glad you’re enjoying the van 👍👍👍
Rivet nuts is inspired!
Maybe pop them in after carpeting? Saves a washer and super neat.
Looking cracking.
Actually it’s a lot easier and neater before as if not you have to pull the carpet back a few mm to expose the metal. My riveter has been the best and most favourite tool for the van. You’ll see why in future vids 😉
Been waiting for this 👍🏻
Brilliant, I can't wait to see the next episode.
Looks great man 🎉
Well done sir.
Coming together pretty nicely. Keep it up!
Lovely work . Well done ,,
Looks good Al 👍
It's looking brilliant, Al 🇬🇧😎
Awesome man 👌🏿🚐
Awesome 👏👍
It's getting there, Mate. 👏
great work
Mate, looking very swish. Can't wait for the next video. Big thumbs up buddy 👍
👊👊👊
Can't wait for the next one.
Amazing
I’ve a big caffeine usage problem. Now I’m saving all my cans. I could’ve made a f$&@‘v& airstream by now.
😂😂😂 that would be the biggest video on CZcams 😂
Thanks Your very much for good and informative clips!!! Will copy much of the tips, so nice to knew where to buy stuf and that they exist at all.. Looking for a Caddy Maxi after winter. Best Regards Thomas , boatbuilder, Sweden.
Great vans for it. I need to do a full tour video👍
Looking amazing mate, professional job 👍👍👍👍
Good job mate 👍🏼
Good promo at the end 🙂 Can't wait for the next episode now...
Looks mega, Al! Can't wait to see the next update. Your attention to detail is brilliant 👍🏼 it's coming along really well. Big fan of this van build series..
ATB, Lisa ✌🏼
I’m doing one too if you need another fix 😊😊
Thanks Lisa. Mega is a great word 😬
Coming along nicely, Im so tempted to do this,
Up in the northern fells tomorrow for the week...hope the weather stays nice
Atb Bruce
It’s getting there! I’m excited to actually use it properly. Enjoy the north where man is strong in arm but thick int’ ‘ed… oh dam that’s me😂😂😂
Looking awesome! Very innovative. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks Brian 👍👍👍
Beautiful job
Cheers buddy. I’ll bring it over to you soon and show it in person😉
Your doing such a great job, well done Bushy! 😊
I’m getting there with it and enjoying the process😊
Top job mate! Like the carpet colour and th threaded rivets are proper useful 👌
The rivet nuts are definitely worth it! It opens up so much more👍👍👍
You’ve done a very neat job and I love the riveted eyelet idea.
I’m holding the overall finish is pretty good😬
Curiously satisfying watch Al lad ... very impressed with the van build out. Blue is gonna love getting out in that, and jabbing out on the way home.
Yes I have a plan for his bed in the van. Soon it will be adventure time😬
Hi Al, what people can't see is the attention to detail you have done with this van so far, yes ive seen first hand what the van looked like before and what it looks like now and the detail and time you have put in is far more than what companies would do, keep up the great work,
P.S i need my workshop back please. 🤣🤣.
😂😂😂 everybody needs a Brian! It’s definitely true. There are many details that no one would see or realise I’ve done. It’s getting there as thanks for your input👊
I like the tin can cutouts to cover the holes; you rounded the corner like a pro.
Thanks Bill. I always do things the best way I can… with a can😂
I never want to see that spray glue ever again. It’s still on my path 😂😂 it won’t budge.
Nice job though. I was tempted to carpet my panels but decided just to go straight on the walls. Option is there though I’ve kept them. Tricky awkward sticky but eventually very satisfying 👌
😂 that glue is hard to control. As you said in the wind it’s a nightmare. I took down a few birds… the local cats now love me😂
Nice one!, Really starting to take shape now. I’m looking forward to seeing what luxury add ons go in for Blue! 😂👍
Yes I’m further on than that too and it’s honestly looking mint! Thanks Kev 👊
Loved the video, can't wait for the next installment, not too bothered you didn't camp out, your subscribers adventures await! Watching from Oldham (over t'hill) 'til next time, you bloody perfectionist, sending love to Blue 🐾❤😆👍
Thanks Michelle. It definitely will open up more opportunities for better places to get out to. I’m not quite a perfectionist but nearly.😂
Loving the Caddy updates Al. It's going to be a class job when finished. Sadly a dream I won't achieve.😂
Thanks Steve I’m hoping it will help me save some money for my adventures since I’m skint😬
My friend has just decorated, bathroom grey, living room grey, new kitchen grey, dining room, that would be grey then, now starting upstairs, guess that would be grey then ??!!😂😂😂😂
Life needs more colour👍
Sure does 🤣🤣
Good evening Al…..& Blue…….great fun doing 4 way stretch carpet, you can never put enough spray glue on….when you think that’s plenty , give it another spray., I remember that 👍💪🇮🇲😂
😂I was the same. It’s probably fine with half as much😂
Brilliant you must have some patience cutting and sticking 👍
Patience and calm are part of me😬. Thanks.
11:24 Popcorn!
You're doing a grand job there Al, van looks really smart. Reckon you're going to be well comfy in it!
Were they ventilation panels I saw in the doors? Always handy if you're away somewhere like Skye and it rains for 3 days.
Great idea for the washing line!
No but I’ve a plan if needed if I need a fan fitting. Condensation will always be an issue in a van 🤔
Hope you meant you can dry the dog's towel on the washing line...not that you were going to hang him up there to dry him! Just kidding! 🤣
😂 no I’m going peg Blue up 😂
brill again love the holder on the back door for the portable gas canister as part of the kitchen are you going to attach a light on the outside rear of the van and also make attachments for awning/tarp
I was trying not to show that but my kitchen set up video will be a good 😉. Well spotted.
Must be a Yorkshire dad thing and just coming t’av a look at what their lads are doing 😂
😂 well done for recognising his voice😉
Allen that great fit of the carpet man you doing good perfect seams I wanna ride in it when done best part Allen you got video on how it done if you need to replace or do part over you can review video for tips to even do it better or to seek problem you may hear or feel a new sound you can refer to video record of such area to see what's going on or know what behind it excellent 👍👍👍👍👍👍 ( oh one last thing how's blue doing we need to see the mutt once in while haha) (oh when you do the floor have suggestion you can improve on make the floor on hard board with thin foam pad to hide noise and isolate floor from cold metal covered in rug will allow you to remove to clean or service just suggestion anchor by clips corner hate saying suggestion you do awesome without)
It is definitely turning in to a mini home. The floor is done in the next video and I’ve insulated it well. I’m glad I’ve done everything myself so I know what is where and how to fix things if there is an issue. I’ve already referred back to a video to find something😬😂
@@BUSHMANandBLUE works better than factory
"Dry the dog" 🤣
😂 yes I pictured him pegged up on the line looking at me saying ‘really?!’😂😂😂
Love watching the van taking shape, are you gonna be building a bed area for blue. Will we be seeing him on the next video xx
Yes he will get his space. I have a couple ideas but he’s not fussy😂
Nice job so far mate. You might want to check that none of those holes you’ve covered are for access to change bulbs in the rear lights 👍
Yes that would be fun 😂. Luckily not as the full light casement comes out as one.
@@BUSHMANandBLUE good job 😂 I’ll look forward to seeing the finished van 👍
love the tin can idea, wish id used on my van... do you hae a link for those little magnets... cheers
I think I found them on Amazon. They have a hook system.
it's interesting watching your videos, learning a lot, I love the eyelet bolt idea, very smart. I wonder what all those holes are actually for in the D pillar, is it to get to the electrical runs, anyone have any idea?
All the factory holes are to fit different interiors for many of the VW cars. Often they use the same parts
I'm not from England, so not sure this is the right word, but is this job what "fiddly" means? It looks like everything is curved in at least two directions, and then meets something else at an angle. You are so patient and calm. I'd be out in the road kicking rocks. Hope you are stopping for those legally mandated tea breaks now and then.
😂 yes it’s all definitely a bit fiddly but this is where patience comes in well otherwise the van could get a big hammer at it😂😂😂. Thanks Jan as always.
Wd40 for removing snots
👋🏻
👊
Hi bro, where did you source your magnets and do they have a special name, good idea for holding that carpet
The magnets have a hook that swivels so can have a few uses. They are made by ‘ant mag’ and I got them from Amazon 👍
You shouldn’t tape over the holes it’s to prevent a vacuum when shutting your rear doors to prevent your windows popping out
There are plenty more air intakes so won’t be an issue. 👍
Not the first
those things your pressing into the bodywork are nutserts
Nice neat job, one question tho, why can we only get grey carpet now, In various shades of grey???😂😂😂😂 As Frank says, I love carpets me, but only grey ones 😁😁😁😁😁
It’s true grey is always available but generally it matched the grey interior trim. Too much grey hey😂
Yep, waiting for it to go out of fashion 😂😂😂
Why didn't you put insulation and vapour barier in?
😂 I put more insulation in than most which has several vapour barriers within.
Bizarrely, I find these van refit vids more relaxing than you peering over a massive drop on striding edge... 🤔
Wonder why?... Oh yeah, my fear of heights 😂
😂😂😂 I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
It’s called a Rivnut gun
😂 yes! I’ve almost every tool going for every trade but for the van this is my favourite tool by far👌
Evening , When did you first take Blue camping ? Has he ever damaged any gear with claws / teeth ? I’ve got a 11 month old Hovawart, thinking of introducing her to camping, a bit worried about the gear side of it ,,,, cheers nigel
He’s been many a time and I’ve never had any issues apart from mud and dog hair everywhere 😂
No electric first fix vid😢
Don’t worry Phil there will be a full electrical video👍👍👍
@@BUSHMANandBLUE that's the bit I'm waiting for😀
Al - am disappointed mate. Not one used washing up liquid bottle, no sticky back plastic and not a single toilet roll tube in sight! What kind of ragtag amateur hour build is this!! 🤣
😂😂😂 I need to up my game😂
Hiya mate your supposed to wear a mask really when you do this because toxic to your lungs Just do you know for the future
Yes mate definitely. I’m a tradesman and runner so my lungs are very important to me so I spend most of my time holding my breath.
@@BUSHMANandBLUE top man, might be worth looking if you going to use a lot of the spray glue in the future a mask I bought one from b and a only cost me £25 and it’s more then enough for the spray glue stuff.
Thanks mate. Others might read this👌👌👌
Your carpeting skills are something else Al. When you were doing the wheel arches I was thinking you'll never get it smooth in all directions. Wrong! That's a top class job being done by a craftsman. Looking forward to the next episode. Is that spray glue harmful in enclosed areas? Give Blues ears a scratch from me!
It’s a 4 way stretch carpet so it can be manipulated enough to work but it’s not easy. The glue is better used in ventilated areas and I’m good at holding my breath😉
Who's arsed 😴 Get camping...
Rude mate😂😂😂
