  • My arrangement of Moonlike Smile from the soundtrack of Genshin Impact (specifically the Dragonspine album), originally composed by Yu-Peng Chen.
A nice little piece. Some thoughts:
Many arrangements utilize octaves a lot more heavily. While I get why it's there, it also adds to the difficulty and I don't think it's necessary. Instead, the sense of progression could also come from the left hand, and from naturally increasing the dynamics of what's already there. In particular, a well-executed left hand or even just non-octave chords in the right hand (e.g. 0:45) adds more depth to the sound in addition to just dynamics.
Also worth calling out is the decrescendo at 0:55. This effect is somewhat achieved by switching to a simpler left hand accompaniment, but I think it's nice to have a more explicit transition.
At the very end, I removed the last two notes from the left hand. In the original it works because the flute is sustained until the end and the piano secondary to it. But with piano, the focus quickly shifts to the left hand and IMO keeping those two notes drags it out too long. Plus, ending on the 3rd gives a less of a sense of finality, which I think is pretty fitting.
Next week - the entire Dragonspine soundtrack arranged for piano!

Ooooh that's a good one. Sure thing!
(Generic disclaimer: it takes me a while to respond to requests, since I need to fit it in with everything else I'm planning. For this piece: probably ~2 months?)
