The vocalist here David Coverdale is definitely worth checking. During 80s hair metal era it is easy to forget he started with Deep Purple after Gillan in mid 70s and has one of the better voices in the genre. Check out Deep Purple - Mistreated 1974 live.
Think about this; Still Of The Night was a single. A 6 minute heavy metal monster of a song a single for rock radio. It was just a magical time for music.
I was about 13 in 1988 and in middle school...grew up with the 80s hair era...It was all about having fun, rock and roll, women and sex, drugs and alcohol...for me as a teen it was all about I couldn't wait to get home fron school and turn on MTV and jam to the rock videos while doing homework...or cranking up the Nintendo, going outside and playing and riding my bike, talking on the phone for hours to girls from school, bowling, fishing, and just enjoying life without a care in the world. You could talk to anybody about great rock music cause it was on EVERY station on the radio and everyone knew the bands...A great time to grow up in for sure 😎👍 I miss it so much now and days 😔😔
David Coverdale has one of the best voices in hard rock/blues rock, in my opinion. He started out with Deep Purple (an English band) in the mid-1970s, and when he founded Whitesnake in the late 1970s, it was more of a blues-rock band. When the 1987 album came out, it was pegged as 'hair metal' (I was 10 years old that year). If you want something more recent, check out Whitesnake's massive 2004 live performance of 'Judgement Day'. Or, if you want something completely different (and acoustic), check out Whitesnake, Starkers in Toyko, 'Sailing Ships.' Also, with regard to 80s fashion: Lots of acid wash denim, black leather, men with long, big hair, wearing makeup (your rock stars, anyway)...it looks ridiculous now, but it was normal then! :)
Guitarists have been using a bow to play the guitar since the 60ies. The Creation with the song "Painter Man" were the first I think, even before Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin did it. In this song the bow is just show, it is a synthesizer you actually hear.
the thing with the violin bow sounds amazing because it's a recording. the music ( not the vocals ) is playback other wise the violin effect will sound a whole different.
I saw Whitesnake live and boy, they put on a fab show. 2 hours of excellent music and DC is a great frontman. Probably the best concern I have attended.
I met singer Dave Coverdale and his wife 20 years ago when I worked at a restaurant, they sat at my table and I was their server. They were both VERY NICE people, very British calling me "Dahling" lol. He left me 2 tickets at the Will Call. The Scorpions and Dokken were also there with Whitesnake. Great show, they still sounded as they did decades ago!!!!
Skin tight jeans, cowboy boots, short jackets with big shoulder pads. Scarves and bracelets, black eyeliner, big hair - and the girls were similar! I love 80's Whitesnake, even though I once heard someone describe David Coverdale as looking like Jon Bon Jovi's grandad during this period! Thanks Daniel. Am back reliving my teens! 🤗
Whitesnake put out one three commercially successful albums in 1987. This track is from that album, but my favorite album of dash from a couple of years previous is called "slide it in" you should check out that one
Me again!😂 I first saw them in 85 and numerous times in the following decades right up to last year - they have been absolutely sublime every time - the drummer you see here is Tommy Aldridge and he was still drumming like this when I saw them last year - he uses his hands at one point during his drum solo😮😂 Exceptional musicians!
Ahh....the '80s, the decade hairdressers ruled the world. These giys were all a major fire hazard!😂🤣😂🤣. Classic song, but the only thing live here was David Coverdale. The man had a serious set of pipes! The band was cĺearĺy miming. Ĺook closer and you can clearly see the guitars were unplugged. To hear what a violin bow actually sound like on a guitar, check out Dazed and comfused by Led Zeppelin live in MSG '73. Really cool, iconic stuff. Fun fact: David Coverdale actually recorded an album with Jimmy Page in '93, simply titled Coverdale Page. It's pretty good.👍🍻
I saw them live in 2015. They put on an amazing show. It was so cool. Everyone was singing along to all the classics from our time. It was a blast ❤️🎵🤘🏻
I sang every word of that song lol, another favorite band of mine. Guilty pleasure ha ha i was too young back then but got into them mid 90's loved them ever since.
I saw Whitesnake live at Donnington England and when guitarist Adrian Vandenburg played his guitar with a bow the crowd lost their shit. Great live band back in the day.
I'd really love to see more solo Ozzy Osbourne reactions on CZcams. He's not doing well physically and what always happens is AFTER an artist "leaves" us people start delving into their careers instead of while they're still with us!! Ozzy songs such as "You Can't Kill Rock n Roll", "Fire in the Sky", "My Jekyll doesn't Hyde", "Black Rain", "Killer of Giants", "No More Tears" and so many many more songs not given attention (except for the more popular ones like Crazy Train)
Not one of the actual musicians who recorded this are on this video. This is where David Coverdale sold his soul for the American dollar. Whitesnake were a great blues based hard rock band so i would suggest to you that you try a song from their earlier days with the real Whitesnake. Perhaps you should listen to the original version of Crying in the rain , or better still, Ain't no love in the heart of the city , taken from the live album, Live in the heart of the city. Try Fool for your lovin , Sweet talker and Blindman. That'll give you a wider view and better music
Dont get too excited about the ‘live’ aspect. David’s vocals were live, but the music wasnt, it was just the recorded music pumped through the PA system. As for the bow on the guitar, no thats just a gimmick and it was done on the video too. Cool gimmick to make you think you’re hearing a violin/string section from a guitar but in fact i believe that was a synth. Interesting fact: all the music you heard there wasnt performed by any of the musicians in the video. The guitarist, bass player and drummer were fired in 1987 literally weeks after they recorded the album and just before the official videos were shot.
Whitesnake went thru many lineup changes, but always had top notch musicians! The band is most famous for singer David Coverdale's girlfriend...Tawney Kitaen (sp?)
don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but just in case: they're not playing live. David Coverdale IS singing live, but over the studio version of the song from the album which is playing over the speakers/PA. This is a trick many tv stations utilized in days past.
Hi. New, just saw your reaction to Alanis and started checking out more of your reactions. PLEASE react to "Rock Me" by Great White? Its a top notch 80's song. You won't regret it! 🎶🎸🥁🎹🎧🎵🤟

Are you talking about the "made in Europe" album?
Think about this; Still Of The Night was a single. A 6 minute heavy metal monster of a song a single for rock radio. It was just a magical time for music.
Yes it was! The song that stood the summer of '87 on its ear.
Ohh man you might laugh but we all had hair like that 🤣🤣

Europe has some of the best music in the world ❤
the thing with the violin bow sounds amazing because it's a recording. the music ( not the vocals ) is playback other wise the violin effect will sound a whole different.
The first band I ever saw live back in 87 😂😂

Spooky, imstood here wearing my Whitesnake Tshirt (that I bought at the concert when I saw them live in 2004) and this pops up as soon as I open YT 😮🤘

This just came on my playlist while driving at work love it..
Bringing back the memories! 😊 The young teenager me playin' this record in my room turnin' the volume to 11!! Good ol' eighties....
YES! Playing the guitar like that then was definitely new and awesome!!! Loved this when it came out and love it now!!❤❤

The bow with guitar was made popular with Led Zeppelin
Yep true, but in this case what you’re hearing is a synth, the bow is just a fun gimmick.

Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used a bow on several tracks

Ha! I love this record, it’s so preposterously over the top. A real kitchen sink song.
And it’s always funny to hear David’s speaking voice. Incredibly posh.
Jimmy page famously played with a bow, too, you need to check that out.
2 biggest things in the 80s, Shoulder pads and Hair! 😂 I used to have hair like that, although not then, I was only 8!
There wasn't much work for Barbers in the 80s😂. Whitesnake have had some classic music though
But hairdressers done well.

Thank you John Sykes for saving Coverdale career. 👍👍👍👍
the sound of my alarm clock!!! Hi! Nice reaction as always. Came for Nightwish stayed for you. :) Greetings from Greece!
Cheers! Thanks for joining me on this journey!
Eighties "hair metal" bands. Oh boy! RATT, Warrant, Poison, Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue, Cinderella.... though I was into WASP, Venom, Kiss, Twisted Sister, Accept etc....
holy mother
How much did they spend on hair spray lol love it
🫡🇬🇧🏴
Jimmy Page...Zep...Bow.
Shoulder pads
Check out Blue Murder, John Sykes (the guitarist)'s band after Whitesnake. Better vocalist than Coverdale imo.
Hi. New, just saw your reaction to Alanis and started checking out more of your reactions.
PLEASE react to
"Rock Me" by Great White? Its a top notch 80's song. You won't regret it!
