    I love seeing drivers try other car types. Modified, non wing sprints, wing sprints, midget, super late models are all made better when guys try different disciplines.

      A real racer races virtually anything with a gas pedal and steering wheel.

    • @kyleolson279
      @kyleolson279 Před měsícem +1

      @@michaellamb1342I disagree with this viewpoint. A real racer imo is involved in the construction and preparation of the racecar they drive. Usually the drivers that race in multiple disciplines are just helmet bag carriers that just hop in the car. I don't regard the drivers that do this as "racers" regardless of how many divisions they try. This has always been one of the big differences between late models and sprints. That being said we're seeing late model drivers becoming more like sprint car drivers. Younger and never picking up a wrench.

      @@kyleolson279 well I feel they should study their craft well and yes should at least get hands dirty at least doing some of the shocks or helping with the tires or getting wrenches taking notes like kyle larson does watching the heats planning strategy of attack watchin how the track line is developing. its good though to race more then one thing its part of why larson is as good as he is the dirt racing helps keep his instinctive driving sharp.

      @@manga12 Kyle Larson has probably never touched a wrench in his life. All he's ever had to worry about is driving, that's a MAJOR advantage. All he's ever had to focus on is becoming a better driver. No bills, no manual labor on car, etc. He's also been with the best crew chiefs since he was in high school. You don't really participate in the ups and downs in racing being this type of driver. I think that's a big advantage with your attitude not getting down. These types of drivers are bad for the sport imo. I'm not trying to say anything bad about these drivers personally but they escalate the costs and drive racers out of the sport at the local level. I don't care how many different types of cars you drive if you're not involved in construction or preparation of the racecar you drive, you're not really racer imo.
      For example reading everyone's comments about Logan Seavey racing the late model. Everyone saying "racers race". I'm thinking this guys just showing up with his helmet bag at race time, meanwhile most of the late model drivers have been riding down the road in the toter, sleeping in it, waking up early washing the car, doing maintenance and repair work, prepping tires, etc., but everyone says they're not racers because they only race one type of car. That's a big problem I have with racing today, not enough respect for the racers busting their asses on their racecars while everyone fanboys over the helmet bag carriers.

      @@kyleolson279 yea thats why I really admire usac, many of them though the cars are expensive are one or two horse opperations, justin grant does much of his own wrenching, tmez will set his shocks and test the cars he drives, brent yarnell is him and his wife, tyler roarig well he is a fabricator and builds racing shocks for a living, taylor ferns owns her own team, derick bishchak is him and his dad will head back up to angola where hes from to do things with the car, the guy is a wiz shifting systoms engineer for cummings diesel and went to rose hulman in terre haute, you know that one that is where undergrad is often done before going to mit and partialy named after the hulman family name that owned clabberdgirl baking powder and owned this old track in indiana that they used to call the brickyard I am told.
      but yea usac can have guys and girls that travel but there are also those that do shows that are in there mostly doing shows locally or regionally though its easier for one that is in ohio or indiana perhaps illinois cuz that is where the lions share of the shows are with some on the coasts and in cali

    Closer to Nascar racing? That’s been the case since the mid 2k’s the entire establishment of top touring series drivers has emulated nascar. The nepotism and the cost to operate is EXACTLY why we see the same names across the board and being shuffled from available seat to seat. The grassroots thing is a pipe dream by those not actually in the sport. If the industry was still grassroots there’d be many more names on the board. There’s countless drivers whom are equally talented as the names you call out weekly on this show that can’t run these series. Just the cost of travel is beyond your imagination. There’s a reason why B-Shep had the opportunity to get in the rocket house car and then the Long horn. His family was insanely wealthy. Then he got a ride with a massive team advantages that made him a king. Even looking back at drivers like Tyler Riddick whom began his career at age 14 with Lucas as a result of extreme financial wealth. This idea Zerg at the cream rises to the top is childish and adolescent. It’s fine right foolishness. Team advantages plays a major role for those whom attempt to run these series too. No different then Nascar. In the old days talent alone could out shine these resources but NOT today. It’s just not the case. Certainly the money injected in DLM haven’t been the same as nascar but the “boardrooms” and facilities are superficial. Many Late model teams have equipment and facilities not much different the cup teams a few decades ago. You visited any of these shops? They aren’t all tiny little attached garages. But even if they are that’s irrelevant. Boom Briggs has family wealth. The list goes on and on. The cost just to travel the series can approach half a million or more not including equipment. There’s a finite amount of seats available that are funded enough to travel and less to compete car the top level.
    It’s also foolish to compare Young money’s proven dynamic talent to RTJ. There’s a significant difference in terms of versatility and success. Going crazy after two seasons at top. Most DLM drivers are former modified drivers. So that’s irrelevant. Hopefully RTJ will be successful in other endeavors but it’s FAR from that of Young Money. That’s just crazy. It should also be noted that he did just jump into those rides a dominate and instantly win. RTJ is however knowledgeable so that helps with his transition between rides. He’s fully aware of what they where doing the last two seasons and what works for him.

      Yung Money is in a league of his own obviously,but I have heard him call out RTJ 's talent. You are exactly right about the trajectory of Late Model racing and the resources being thrown around. I remain mostly committed to 410 winged sprints because you can still be competitive with a less than top financial picture if you have top talent in the seat and a sharp Crew chief.

    • @kyleolson279
      @kyleolson279 Před měsícem

      You're absolutely delusional with your Kyle Larson-RTJ comparison. If Kyle Larson had to follow the same path in racing as RTJ you would have never heard his name. He'd be a nobody. Larson's an amazing driver for sure, but RTJ is an amazing racer. He's capable of running his own race team as a crew chief if need be. If Larson doesn't have the best crew chiefs/organization (Rumley, Silva, Kunz, Hendrick) he's not winning. I don't care what type of car it is, if you gave a RTJ and Larson the same type of car and said "ok here it is, you're on your own". Do you really think it would be competitive? I know it would hurt a lot of peoples feelings but RTJ would dominate.

    If dirt late models becoming too much like NASCAR is the worry, then it isn't necessarily the money you should be worried about. It's the giga-rich multi-car team owners who want guaranteed entries, the series bosses who will try to work in gimmicks for shallow entertainment value, and major OEMs steering the ship in strange directions based on whatever fad of the week has taken over the auto industry that should concern you.
    The money, really, isn't _the_ problem at all. It just makes more things possible. Unfortunately, it also attracts the kinds of black-hearted businessmen most predisposed to crushing possibilities in motorsport. Keep an eye out for it (Austin Kirkpatrick being accused of working for NASA because he got a solid front axle setup working comes to mind) but don't proclaim the end times just 'cause double-decker haulers are at the track.
    Actually, 5:53 summed it up perfectly.
