  • This is something special!
We are going to the best lodge in Malawi, if you want to combine fish and relaxing. That place is the Red Zebra Lodge. I have been there four times now and I tell you, this place grows on you :) This is the oldest remaining catch station in Malawi.
They are the biggest exporter of fish from the Lake and have a great history behind. As you can see on sign before you enter the lodge, it was build by a british man - Stuart Malcolm Marion Grant.
Originally he was in the Royal Air Force (RAF), but not as a pilot, In the beginning he worked for the British authorities when Malawi was a colony under them and known as Nyasaland.
Later, when Malawi became an independent country, his work continued for the new government.
Around 1972, the government believed that the then only exporters of aquarium fish, Henny and Peter Davies, were on time for another export license for aquarium fish.
Through his work in the government, they had found out that Stuart had an interest in fish.
Initially, the Eagle Inn, a small guesthouse on the beach, was living opposite the Maleri Is.
He was also the one who introduced hookah diving in Malawi, snake diving that allowed the divers to stay underwater for hours.
After a few years, Stuart found a small caravan and moved to the current site at Kambiri Point.
The caravan was also where the office was.
The fishing station has been at Kambiri Point for more than three decades.
Stuart was buried on Sunday, October 14, 2007
