I was at what I think was your first session with the concertina - from memory at the Oxford in Rose Street. You came with your mum, because you weren't old enough to get in on your own. There were a couple of us concertina players there, and we weren't too impressed when this gangly kid sat down holding the instrument the "wrong" way. Then you started to play, and every jaw in the room hit the floor - it was literally a revelation. No-one had heard anything remotely like it before - you had developed your own unique style, and technically you were pretty much fully formed as well. A memorable evening - we all knew you would go far...

Fantastic! That's why ya need a fully chromatic unisonoric instrument. I play piano accordion and this would be a lot easier to sneak into work! :)

Can't believe I've only just found you. One of my favourite tunes to play as a child was named after you, and yet I never thought to look for your music. I'm about to buy a concertina after wanting one for years
Heard you play in Bath and it was very inspiring. I am a simple Anglo concertina player, but the soul of the instruments are shared, I think.
Jazz on an English!!! Very well done. I recently acquired a Wheatstone Model 21 made in 1927...love it. May never pick up the melodeon again.

WOW!! Amazing skill also so fun to hear such an unexpected variety of styles played. You might have just swayed me to switch from my attempts at anglo ( about 9 or so song's I've managed to learn so far..) to English.... Any thoughts on the pros and cons between english and duet..?
Woo hoo!! I'm an Irish button accordion player and picked up an English concertina a couple of days ago from a friend in Scotland. That's a very inspiring video, fabulous musicianship!! Could I ask - I noticed your pinkie finger is happily floating free - do you depend on your thumbs for all the weight and balance? Thanks again for the video. ❤️
finally..someone who is as crazy and great at their instrument as i am !! i knew it was gonna be good the moment you POPPED on to the screen..and when i saw your yellow teeth i was in love :) the xhromatic fast single line melodic solo part in the middle was awesome..u sounded like coltrane or something like..wow..bravo.. Personally I prefer the English concertina over the anglo, it's much easier to start hitting of.
Can you tell us if the concertina is a treble or a treble tenor etc.

A treble typically would have 48 keys and would go from G below middle C to 3 c’s above. The Tenor table goes down to the c below middle c. Tenor is lighter. Wooden ended Concertinas sound more muted and possibly warmer then a metal ended machine.
@@srticketyboo Did I answer this already? I can't see my answers! Anyway I love my tenor treble however people really enjoy the 48 key instruments as they are lighter and smaller. Whatever you choose - you're in for a great time!
This kind of very open and sometimes crazy playing is just fantastic! But you didn't add a link to the score as you use to do in other videos. If there is a score of this tune I would be very curious to see what it looks like.
