My brother had the same thing, his problem was always being able to sleep, if he was lucky he could sleep 2-3 hours, he passed away 2 years ago he was only 33 years old.

this is why u go to the doctor for prescription drugs, dosage is super important, as well as choosing the right antibiotic as it depends on the patient and bacteria involved. and on top of that bad use of antibiotics will also make bacteria resistant to them which will fuck over lots of people in the future

I feel like he self diagnosed himself while his mental state was fked to the stage he trully believed no doctor could help him anymore.. Or they really had no idea how in there.. He never said he didnt visit a doctor and even thanked a neurologist. The meds he was taking to get at least 2hrs of sleep didnt jist appear out of nowhere.

the dude probably had myasthenia gravis. It says on wikipedia, " In people with myasthenia gravis, there is worsening muscle weakness caused by Ciprofloxacin." This would explain his inability to walk. He had an underlying disease before taking the antibiotics that was exasperated by this particular antibiotic.

This was absolutely tragic. The fact that Ricard made that many videos over more than year, entailing what experiences he was going through and not one person even went to see him in person to help has got to be one of the most sad things I've seen.
I’ve had a similar problem where every time I tried to sleep it feels like I’m falling so I snap back awake. I end up fighting it enough as to where I try to sleep through the falling or getting sucked into space feeling. The lack of sleep I get during will lead to sleep paralysis where it takes a while for me to get back into my body before I can wake myself up.
The feeling of wanting to sleep but your body refuses is scary. Not a similar experience but I just remembered how scary it is when your body refuses to follow your wishes. I once overdosed on medicine and although I didn't pass out, my body shut down but my brain won't let me sleep. It was a horrifying experience.

Had something VERY similiar to this, when i quit meth cold turkey, constant nightmares(pretty much i always died in the dream, and i could feel the pain as you would imagine, and would always wake up to head explosions(a really loud sound, white noise? aswell as pain, i can't describe, super uncomfortable and straight up scary
Pretty much severe sleep paralysis + head explosions that lasted for over 4 months

The end of the video was so fucking brain rot. Did the video maker seriously just bring up alternative theories at the end "he may have gone crazy from the stress of losing his mom" "he may have abused benzos" Are you fucking kidding me? Nobody in the world can force a physical response to rem sleep, he documented that plenty of times on video, this isn't just from "trauma" or "abuse" this is a clear case of endless insomnia - he had to start abusing benzos AFTER he couldn't sleep for probably months and took the strong sleeping meds just to get a few hours here and there to prolong his fight to live and try to find a cure. He eventually realized he won the worst lottery of all - the one where you are the first documented case of his kind (this was triggered by a drug - probably first documented case of that disease triggered from that exact drug so first of its kind) and then the guy spits on a dead guy by bring up these alternative theories that make no fucking sense at all.
The guy got fucked by the United States health care system, couldn't afford to get simple drugs to treat his issue, so he took his bosses old drugs that was quite risky with some insane side effect risks - but a desperate person will take anything for help when they don't have the money. This cost him his life. Such a sad case of how broken the system is.
Yeah I'm not sure what the end theories were about. I thought it was apparent enough when he had a response during REM sleep, which like you said, cannot be voluntarily done.
It is not concretely known how he developed what he developed nor how he died. So, at the end he gives popular theories for those two unknowns, that's all. You strongly believe one thing to be the case, so you see any alternative as disrespectful when it's not.
That's what I was thinking, maybe the reason he survived for that long was because he was getting some sleep because of the meds compared to those who probably didn't take much because I doubt doctors would let them abuse sleeping pills and got no sleep.

It's entirely possible for the mind to trick itself into physical feelings and actions. It's been documented that people have felt pain that doesn't exist. The conclusion section of essays and articles often include theories about the future, future research questions, or in the case of this video, alternative explanations to what could've happened. The main stance of his video is that it's real and it's brain rot to think that it isn't despite 90% of his video supporting it. Those possibilities are there to 1) not come off as conceited and 2) in case anyone wants to explore them further

"A New Zealand surfer, Bob Davie, experienced severe insomnia and tremors linked to an antibiotic, Ciprofloxacin, prescribed for a prostate infection. His condition led him to suicide."

The fact that he was talking jibberish in some videos does not necessarily have to be directly linked to his insomnia. When taking Benzodiazepines, if you are not able to fall asleep it will scramble your brain so much you'll be having some very, very, very strange hallucinations. Not to mention the behavior of said person becomes erratic and prone to do some stuper strange things.
That said, this is a very tragic (and strange) story and I hope it gets researched enough so that they may find a solution...

It's crazy how important sleep is and how much it affects us if we don't. I remember once like 10 years ago playing through FF10 over the night. In the morning I went to the supermarket, got some breakfast and felt like a zombie before sleeping right after. And now I'm even more hesitant to take any kind of medicine this is bad

It seems most logical to me that he suffered from some sort of insomnia, possibly from the pills his boss gave him which in turn made him eat the Benzo's which ultimately made it even less of a possibility to fall asleep.
And like you hinted at, the benzo's along with his insomnia probably fried his receptors. Making it even harder for him to fall asleep. God, the more I think about this as I write it the more unsettled I get, like I can't even begin to imagine what his body and mind went through.
Ciprofloxacins treat UTIs. How how can you know if you will have an adverse reaction before ever having one?

If they prescribe you a fluoroquinolone (the family of antibiotics where cipro is), ask the doctor if they can give you an alternative antibiotic of another family. fluoroquinolone are some of the most side effect heavy antibiotics ever, and antibiotics are already known for having a huge list of shitty side efects. fluoroquinolone are only taken if nothing else works and at low doses and hopefully of newer classes of fluoroquinolone wich seem to be a little safer. avoid cipro. avoid getting "floxxed"

In Indonesia especially batak (where he come from) black magic is pretty popular it's called "santet" in indonesian. Idc if you believe it or not but it is very common here and something that cannot be explained similarly like his case is very common as well, either it's illness, curses, ghost, and many more.

I took an eighth of PE shrooms one night and was experiencing a similar feeling, minus the actual sleep deprivation. And obviously I was heavily tripping. I remember feeling a sense of extreme uncomfortability. Almost felt possessed and very restless. I was squirming in my bed because my mind and thoughts were at 1000 miles an hour and my body was just lying still, almost like it wanted to sleep and shutoff, but I was tripping so hard that I felt like I was losing my mind. I started mumbling to myself things like "none of this is real" "what even is the point of life anymore". I would get up out of bed and just stand straight up to try and rid that feeling for discomfort but it wouldnt work so id throw myself back on my bed. It was a constant cycle of standing up and laying back down within 10 seconds, and it went on for probably an hour. The whole time I was having an existential crisis, wanting to sleep and stop the trip but not being able to. I got so tired of going through this that I genuinely just accepted that this was my reality for the rest of my life. Standing up and getting back in bed, tossing and squirming and just speaking almost in tongues to myself. I was hallucinating like crazy. After a while I had no choice but to finally just embrace it and give in. So i just kept going through the motions and eventually I came down. It was so scary, I'm extremely glad I stayed within the confines of my bedroom during the entire thing.

I've always gone by the rule of thumb that you get the trip that you need. Every trip is always unique in its own way, and its better to allow it to take its course and enjoy it. I've only tripped a handful of times from PE shrooms, those things are intense and it's honestly mind boggling that people have tripped harder and worse than I've experienced.

I can relate. My sleep patterns got messed up from not sleeping more than 20 minutes straight for months due to extreme tooth pain. Now even after getting a few teeth pulled I cant sleep for more than 3 hours straight. I never feel like I get that full restful sleep either It just feels like I'm laying in bead half awake.

I've ruined my sleep pattern due to staying up late as fuck on school nights for years straight (from 15-19, im 23 now) and now I cant sleep for more than 4-5 hours without my body refusing sleep UNLESS I've smoked before bed. Then I can sleep for 8-10 hours.@@OrganicGreens

Lack of sleep will destroy you. Ive always suffered insomnia and it will ruin your life and make you a monster. Ive considered heinous things trying to sleep. Like when people or pets keep waking you up over and over once you finally get to sleep you become primal levels of angry. No sleep = death. And faster than hunger rage. So a day or two no sleep you become a demon and would hurt those youd never if not. Sleep deprivation is one of the worst forms of torture, and we all suffer from it to an extent.
