    This years Marymass Derby will be contested for the 101st time and be played at Victoria Park. They tend to attract crowds between 700/1000 but it’s usually dependent on weather. Last year, both teams competed on the Friday night then Meadow played a 2nd round Scottish cup match on the Saturday

For me Medda v Irvine Victoria for the Marymass derby tops the lot though. Over the years it's had the lot, who can forget Vernon's drop ball gate or crowd misbehaviour. If your planning a return get yourself up here in August.

    Great video and excellent insight as to how a Scottish non league team works. Behind the scenes was magnificent with lots of cogs working together to make it work - so well done Sam for letting us see this and congratulations to Irvine Meadow XI for such a well run wee club.
    I'll tell you what I didn't like though, the neanderthal who was shouting & abusing the linesman, bang out of order. Well done to the linesman, you couldn't pay me enough to do that job and the sooner that football does something about that kind of behaviour the better, there were kids present. I've witnessed a rare similar event at a same kind of standard rugby match and the perpetrator was told to leave - then was escorted out the gate and off site.

    A refreshing change from the PL/Champions League saturation coverage on tv. Ok, the standard is not as high as the elite leagues but you might get to see someone who gets signed by a big club, or former professionals playing for enjoyment more than anything else. The late Martin Peters played for Gorleston F.C. in Norfolk. Non-league teams have their own history and the dedication of people helping run them is to be admired. If I'd paid £60+ for a PL game which was a dull 0-0 draw I'd feel cheated but non-league is a great night out with your mates and it's affordable. Fascinating video. Thanks.

    fell in love with non league football few seasons ago. always went to sunderland matches and my son has a season card at middlesbrough but we started going to watch our local team Thornaby fc who play in northern league div 1 and are currently 3rd top. They only get crowds of about 300 but its a great atmosphere, Its only £7 adults and under 16s are free. Nice food in the cafe and best of all you can watch the match with a nice cold pint. The football is old school, tackles fly in left right and centre and your that close to pitch you hear every word players and managers say. Why anyone wants to be a ref or linesman in non league is anyones guess. They dont half get some stick off the players, managers and crowd. If thornaby and middlesbrough are both away we will often go to watch other local non league clubs. Highly reccommend going to watch your local non league team

    As much as I love european nights & old firms at celtic park, there's something special about following non league or even just lower league scottish teams. Something great about knowing everybody in the stands, the players knowing your names, the passion for the club that's not tied to any sort of success.

    • @davidscottish
      @davidscottish Před 2 lety +1

      I 100% agree with this. There's something different about following non-league teams. You feel a sense of pride about the floodlights or the fence, or a wee shelter that's built almost like a stand. You know the players and see them about the town. My team went bust nearly a decade ago and I've not really got into football as much since then.

    Irvine is no a village, it is one of the biggest town's population wise in Scotland, with around 34'000. It is surprising to me, they don't have a team in the SFL. Hopefully Meadow or Vics can get there within the next 5/7 years.
