Pitching match-ups RHP Bobby Witt for the visiting Marlins and LHP Steve Avery for home town Braves. A great pitching match-up of shutout baseball through 8 innings. Steve Avery pitches a complete game shutout going the 9 innings giving up only 5 hits while striking out 7 and walking 4. Marlins starter Bobby Witt has a great outing, going 7 innings (replaced by Right-hand reliever Randy Veres start the 8th). Veres pitches 7 innings giving up 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 and 2 Base on balls. In the Home 9th inning with Veres pitching , loads the bases and pitches as RHP Richie Lewis relives Yorkis Perez to pitch to pinch-hitter Dwight Smith who promptly hits a walk off grand slam to end the game.
Steve Avery with the complete game shutout (1-1) while reliever Randy Veres suffers the loss (0-1)

A Walkoff grand slam by the late Dwight Smith. I felt like this game helped springboard the 1995 Braves after getting swept by the Reds the weekend before.
