- 水、染料、ロウを使ったコバ磨きの方法を動画にしました。手をかければその分キレイになるので、コバ磨きはレザークラフトの中でも好きな工程です。ついつい時間を忘れて磨き倒してしまいます。
色々と試行錯誤してきましたが、ようやくそこそこキレイなコバ処理ができるようになりました。ポイントは、やすりがちゃんと”効く”ようにコバを固めてやることかな、と感じています。「漆を塗ったような」もしくは「ピアノのような」艶やかなコバが理想なのですが、それにはまだまだ遠いなぁ…。

少しかじった時に見た時はめんどくさいなーって思ってましたが、ちょっと本格的にやりだしてから見返したらこんなに綺麗なコバにしたいって思うようになりました。
そうなんですよね～。面倒だな、と思う時もあるんですけど中途半端に仕上げると何だか気持ち悪くなっちゃいますよ。なかなかクセになる作業かもしれません😁
はぎれのコバを磨いただけの物が、美術工芸品として成立するほど美しく仕上がった。

I really love the koba wax. Yes harnening and sanding the edge is a well time tested way to get a perfect edge. Great video as always👌

楽しく拝見させていただきました。私はコバの水塗に100均の「水彩用筆ペン」を使っています、水用と染料用で分けています。それと百均の液体糊の先が曲がった容器にCMCを入れて使ってます小物ならトコ面にも塗りやすいですし、コバに塗るのも楽です。

長期間使っているとやはり荒れてきますね。乾燥というより、ぶつかったり擦れたりするせいかな、と思います。軽く爪を立てる程度なら大丈夫ですが、力を込めたり鋭い角にぶつかるとやはり傷や凹みはついてしまいます。どうせ荒れてしまうからと程ほどの仕上げにするのもひとつの手なのですが、ついつい磨き倒してしまいますね…。

I usually use a vegetable tanned leather made in Italy, named "INGRASSATO". Mainly use 0.8-1.5mm thickness. 0.8mm thickness is mainly used for inside part(Card slot etc.) and 1.5mm is for outer. I hope you enjoy my CZcams videos. Thank you!

The English name of this tool seems to be "Soldering Iron 690". "HAKKO" is the name of the manufacturer in Japan. If you search by this product name, you may find a shop where you can get it faster.

I think, for most work, using water, then dying, burnishing and finishing with Tokonole is sufficient, otherwise you would never finish the project!
Thank you for your comment. Certainly, many will think that ”TOKONOLE” is sufficient. However, I am not satisfied with the finish using "TOKONOLE". Because it has low durability. It's best to finish edges as you like. Even if it's not appreciated by many people.

質問なのですが、染料の色落ちなどはコバワックスを塗れば、レザーフィックスなどを塗らなくても問題ないのでしょうか？

コバの色止めについてですが、私はあまり色落ち等を気にしたことがないです😓塗った直後は色移りはありますが出来上がったものを使っていても色移りや色落ちが気になったことはないのでコバに色止め剤は使わなくても大丈夫かな、と思っています。おそらくワックスを塗らなくてもきちんと染料が乾いていれば大丈夫だと思いますよ。

There are 2 Koba waxes. White and black. Why didn't you use black because the leather is kind of dark. Would the result be different? I will buy the columbux wax. Is it enough to buy just the white and use it in all surfaces with all different colors? Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your comment. Thank you for your comment. The reason I used white wax is that I only have white. Even with black wax, if the edges are dyed black, the result won't be so different. As you said, white one can be used for other colors. It may be better to say clear than white.So I think it has no problem to buy only white.

Thank you for your comment. I took about 20 minutes for this process. Although It's not efficient, I like this way of edge finishing. Because it is a technique that is not often seen in mass products.

玉捻の先端はあまりイジっていないです。耐水ペーパーと金属磨きフィルムで先端をピカピカにしているくらいでしょうか…。

I think the best way is to search again with "Columbus edge wax". "Columbus" is the name of the Japanese manufacturer that makes this wax. I think it is probably sold in your country. It might be sold not as a leather craft product but as a leather shoe care product.
If you still can't find it, please search with the keyword "Leatherwax Columbus" on eBay. You can find that sellers in China and Hong Kong are selling it. There are many similar products, so please check if there is a logo of "Columbus" on the item.

Is it possible to polish 0.2-0.3 mm lambskin and how?
It's too thin to polish the edges. In my case, I need 0.8mm or more thickness to finish the edge like this.
For 0.2mm-0.3mm thickness, it is practical to paint the edges or fold the edges.

コメントありがとうございます。確かにキリがないですね～。私は切り目磨きの工程が結構好きなので、ついつい時間をかけてしまいます。使用時の曲げ耐性などを考えると顔料仕上げなど他の技法の引き出しも増やしたいなぁとは思っているんですけどね…。

1,自分の使用している手縫いワックスは硬いため、動画のようにコバに擦っても、蝋が着かないのですが、柔らかいワックスとかを使用してますでしょうか？
私は熱した鏝に溶かしている状況ですが、蝋の減りが物凄く早いです。
2, やすり→染色→蝋引きを何度か繰り返しましたが、最後が蝋引きで終えるとワックスのベタッとした感触が残ってしまいます。
これは蝋が多すぎでしょうか？

１について、私が使用しているのはSEIWAの手縫いワックス（プロワックス）です。他のワックスを使用したことがないので何とも言えないのですが比較的柔らかめかもしれません。蜜蝋と松脂の比率とかメーカーによって違うのかもしれませんね。
２については蝋の量もそうですが、もしかしたら①鏝の温度が低すぎる or ②鏝を動かすのが早すぎるせいかもしれません。どちらかの要因で蝋が繊維に溶け込む前に冷えて表面で留まってしまっているのかな、とご質問を読んで思いました。私も作業を急ぐとべた付きがひどい時があるので…。
