- Lewis Goodall hears from LBC callers on whether Diane Abbott should be reinstated as a Labour candidate ahead of the General Election.
This comes as Labour Leader Keir Starmer has refused to say if the Hackney MP will be allowed to stand as a Labour candidate in her constituency, despite completing an "antisemitism awareness course".
BBC Newsnight has revealed that the Labour investigation into Diane Abbott over comments she made on racism was completed in December 2023.
This has caused controversy, especially due to Diane Abbott's history as the first Black woman elected to Parliament.

Starmer isn't kicking out Diane Abbot out of the party because of race he's kicking her out because she's on the left of the party.

I won’t be voting Labour, specifically because of Starmer’s mistreatment of Diane Abbott. This was never about the poorly worded letter, the letter was used as the vehicle to remove her.
I dont think Diane should have aplogised because shecsaid nothing thatvshould have been considered antisematic. Black people are definitely treated worse than Jews, but I also condemn antisematism. Starmer is a disappointment. Diane should not quietly go away. She should stand as an indepenent.

Many centrist Labour figures have said she should be reinstated, and the constant refrain of 'the process must be allowed to run its course' has become risible. It now appears the investigation process was concluded last December! So why no decision?

Diana Abbott has indeed broken barriers, however for me she has not done much, other than oppose things looking at her voting record, for someone that has been in politics since 1987 (the year of my birth), this is just my opinion.
I will be voting based on which party has the best policies and currently that is Labour for me. I urge everyone to vote for whichever party they choose but base your vote on policies NOT identity politics or dead cat issues (Rwanda).

@jourifouler They are not living in the most favorable economic conditions and they did not get a quadruple pension lock. Some of them only get the state pension which is less than £1k a month others have got a private pension which they get from their employers and they get taxed on it.

The mess that has taken place with this is horrible. This is a classic Labour blunder where they can't get the messaging right. It is moves like these that risk Kier snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
