I am painting all of the chrome flat black. Mirrors, grill, and roof rack. I do a step by step (sort of) on how I did this project and the materials that I used. In the end, I think it turned out pretty good.
Im happy with the finished product, may pull the lower cowl and repeat as the two blacks are pushing my buttons. Ill give it some time first. Followed your directions as best I could, thank you for making them clear and concise. I used a self etching primer in flat black (3 coats) prior to the flat black acrylic. img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/svxr8dr/IMG_0955_zpsl6toqe6c.jpg
svxr8dr - I know what you mean about the color difference. I have been using Meguiar's Endurance tire gel on all of my plastic and cladding, and it makes the blacks match pretty well. Plus, that's stuff makes the plastic around the windshield and roof rack rails look really nice.
RAMON DIANAS - since this video I have leveled the Hummer, added more aggressive tires. Installed black nerf bars and tried to keep it black and simple. Thanks for watching.
Most of it has held up well. The grill started to chip a bit, but I think it's just from road debris and time. I plan to re-do it sometime this summer.
FREEMEN OWNRIFLES it’s doing pretty good. I’ve had a couple of rock chips that I’ve had to repair but other than that, it still looks good. Thanks for watching.
Yes, I raised the front with the torsion bars, but then had to get it re-aligned. It leveled out nicely and didn't affect the driveability... I did have to adjust the headlights too...
As the owner of a H2 and H3 it hurts my soul to strip the chrome from a Hummer 😢 That being said it turned out great, I hope your still enjoying your H3 bro!
Your H3 is what I want. Thanks for the inspiration. I agree, it looks much better without the side steps. Badass

Hummer Gang
Thank you for the video I'm going to do mine I appreciate it
Looks pretty good bro... Keep it up.
Looks nice! I luv my H3 and haven't tried blacking it out. you make it look easy.
The Hummer Channel - thanks for the comment. It was pretty easy, it just takes a lot of time. I guess the results are just about the time invested.
It wasn't too bad... I think the key is the prep work. Taking your time and using good supplies is the key. Thanks for the comment!
I'm doing this right now and wanted to say thank you for the video
svxr8dr - you're welcome. I hope it helped a little. I'd love to see your finished product!

Nice Job! I want to trade in my truck now! Seriously
Hello, I Like It You Did A Great Job.I Like It All Black, Only Thing You Need now Is A Tow- Winch On The Front.
Doing mine too, recommend blacking out the bumpers and accents so blacks match. Also blacking out tail lights as well as running lights. Dark tints !
Very cool 3 and the camera - mine is white and cool 2.
Angry eyes would look nice on it!
Edgard Hernandez think so? I don't know that I've seen them on a Hummer? I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
Blacked out light markers would really do it some justice.
I like that you were determined to try that look out. I think it needs something on the top tho. Maybe bigger tougher bars or some lights

What grit sand paper did you use?
what size are your tires? are they staggered?
how has this held up over the past years. Purchasing a h3 this weekend and looking to basically dechrome it as well with black.
Most of it has held up well. The grill started to chip a bit, but I think it's just from road debris and time. I plan to re-do it sometime this summer.
looks Great! about to do the same with mine, how many coats of primer and paint did you use??
John Bolier - I used two coats of primer and three thin coats of paint. It seems to be holding up very well!
awesome job! Thank you!
did you black out the wheels or did they come like that?
BlackScorpion - the wheels were done when I bought it. They were originally chrome, but the previous owner blacked them.
How's the paint holding up? I'm about to do this to my H2. Thanks.
BECAUSE IT'S MINE! LUV IT
How long has it lasted like that with out paint chipping
It lasted about 2 years... then I started to see chipping around the corners.... Since then, I've sanded around the edges and re-applied the paint.
How's it holding up?
FREEMEN OWNRIFLES it’s doing pretty good. I’ve had a couple of rock chips that I’ve had to repair but other than that, it still looks good. Thanks for watching.
Your rims need to be darker black other them thats looks great
Is it leveled?
Yes, I raised the front with the torsion bars, but then had to get it re-aligned. It leveled out nicely and didn't affect the driveability... I did have to adjust the headlights too...
