  • There are many mushrooms out there but these 4 are mushrooms you need to know if you plan on foraging. These mushrooms are very commonly found throughout the world and are incredibly easy to identify, making them good choices for beginners to learn. The Chicken of the Woods mushroom is very commonly found because its bright orange color makes it easy to spot from a distance which attracts prospective foragers. Thankfully this mushroom is incredibly delicious and tastes a lot like chicken. Chanterelles are another popular mushroom and are considered a delicacy around the world because of their unique flavor. Growing from the ground instead of from a tree and their unique shape makes them easy to identify. The False Morel is commonly found during Morel season and some mistake it with a common Morel but it is in fact considered poisonous if not prepared properly. Oyster mushrooms are not only incredibly tasty but they are easy to identify as well. The good thing about Oyster mushrooms is you can find them throughout the year if conditions are right, making them a good choice for beginning mushroom hunters to learn.

It's almost chanterelles season! A few years back, the weather got dry just as the chanterelles in my patch were beginning to come up, so I actually watered them nightly for about a week. It worked! The earliest ones shriveled up before I started watering, but I still ended up with a great harvest.

When you're talking about the oyster mushrooms why are you whispering it's not like they can hear you Coming up to hunt them speak up don't whisper please I have my volume turned all the way up and I cannot hear anything you're saying other than I heard oyster mushrooms that's all I heard. you no need to whisper around mushrooms they're not gonna bolt and run away because they hear you.

You got a nice haul there! We’ve been able to get oysters here but Chanterelles are a little harder to find where I live and people are pretty protective when they find them.

I've only been blessed a handful of times to eat chicken of the woods. It is by far my favorite mushroom.! (To be honest, I haven't tried many others.)

I've had better luck parboiling the young ones flavor wise. Its not bad just sauteed but that funky polypore flavor cooks out and the young shelves have the consistency of super tender chicken.
