I can only speak from my experience - bought an 08 Range Rover with 100k miles on it. Drove across the country, did the Mojave trail and Rubicon, put 150k more miles on it (250k total), and all I needed my entire ownership was an air strut, and an alternator. That’s not bad for 250k miles!

I really Respect toyota's 4x4 but "Permanent" 4wd that can't be turned off is not something You really want for off roading. The best thing about jeep XJ and KJ is you can turn off on road 4wd(with center diff) and go 2wd as you want. There are good yota offroaders. Land cruiser is great vehicle but modern LCs are not for anything serious (they can. But you can do better, Cheaper, easier with other Toyota)
I personally like the full time 4x4. If your a hard core rock crawler type it may not be the best but for a every day vehicle I like having something proactive. Hurts in gas a little but contributes to on road peace of mind.
Before my dad passed away he worked for Land Rover and Jaguar. We used to go on trips with the dealership to show people what their Land Rovers were capable of. I miss those days.

I have literally never seen a Range Rover without low profile all season tires. These cars are like a paradox. They have all the capabilities in the world but nobody is brave enough to take a 100K car off road
PEOPLE DON'T BE FOOLED. There's a reason why people that know only lease these vehicles just like BMW's. They're high maintenance and these have complex very expensive suspensions which are money pits once they start to have issues. My advise is lease it and return it unless you have more money than I know what to do with, then it doesn't matter.
The previous owner would have averaged 16,000 miles per year rather than 8,000 miles, but the Range rover was at the service shop for 6 months each year.

I got a 3 year old Range Rover sport with the V8 but I paid for an extended warranty. Best of both worlds, best most capable most elegant SUV with my repair costs covered. Don’t drive a Toyota, be proud of the luxury and prestige of Range Rover.

lol that sound good on a buy used Range Rover but for most people it would bankrupt them to try to keep it up at the Land Rover dealership. That’s why the original owner traded it in. They didn’t want to be responsible for the average repair and the Range Rover dealer today is probably around 5500.
Reliability issues plague RangeRovers but what a beauty they are ! Easily the most beautiful genuine 4x4 which will provide luxury travel in hard to reach places
They tested one on top gear and it had lots of issues. Literally would randomly turn off on inclines. Don’t get one for off roading it’s a status symbol
I absolutely love Range Rovers. I’m not making half a million dollars a year in order to afford maintenance however. Alas, I shall continue to drive my beat up 2006 Volvo S60 sedan.
I would get it with an extended warranty for at least 3 years/36k miles but the extended warranty has to be a good that covers pretty much for everything!!! Then sure I’ll get me one!!!

To be fair, the 4.4 or 4.2sc was the only good engine to ever come in a Land Rover other than a 200/300tdi
