  • 15th September saw UK Railtours host their re-schedueled tour from 21st July titled 'The Talisman', steam hauled from London Kings Cross to Newcastle with Deltic D9009 hauling the return run.
The steam leg was hauled by 60009 Union of South Africa, standing in for the recently fixed 60163 Tornado, following her failure in April on 'The Ebor Flyer', and whilst Tornado returned to steam at the Nene Valley the previous day, many tests are still to be taken before she can return to mainline running.
With risks of slow speeds and bowladge at locations just after Kings Cross, and the ECS running late, I decided to spend the morning at the station to see the A4 back on home metals, and quite a sight it was too! After a few still shots of the locomotive standing in Platform 1, the train is seen departing in fine style, with the locomotive's owner, John Cameron, onboard in the fireman seat, powering away into the Tunnels! Certainly gave a good view of what it was like with Sir Nigel Gresley's finest machines departing this very station over 50 years ago!
Apologies for slightly shaky filming, there was a strict 'no tripod' policy on at the station that morning

Cheers Ross! It was a fantastic sight, gave a great representation of what it was like when there was nothing but A4's there all those years ago! Thomas

Sadly that's the way it's done these days. I would've loved to have seen it when you always saw steam locomotives hauling coaches in and out of stations! Thomas

DB own Class 66's and 67's, but they normally use 67's as they are used for charter services.
