For overpackers: Well before the cruise, lay out your big suitcase and a carry-on bag. (And your "second item," backpack, etc.) Pack your big bag with everything you think you'll need-make it aaaalll fit. Now transfer everything in order of importance to the smaller bag(s). When you run out of space, start making choices. Either figure out how to pack more efficiently or leave stuff out. By the time you've evaluated everything, you'll know what's essential and what's not. I've done over six weeks in Asia with my carry-on and still found room to fit in a Chinese violin on the way back.

Thank you so much!!! He is such a sweetheart, they all are. I have the best teenagers that like to help and spend time with mom 😀. And yes, they pick out everything to pack and help me get it in the bags. They will know how to pack themselves when they grow up.
Instead of clothes pins, you can thread the string thru the arm and leg holes of your wet stuff and then hook it up on the other side of the shower.

Michelle Anne DeGroot clothespins can also be used to peg curtains together if they are not meeting well enough (privacy and light issues).

Family of two (+1 on the way) here! We like to use one extra large duffel to travel! I lay it all out on the bed and my husband rolls it all and makes it fit. It's wonderful to not have a ton of extra bags. We just put it all in one bag and call it good. Super simple and easy. It also fits as a carry on for the larger planes.
I watch Like 4-5 of your videos you and your husband you and your kids and your son going to Dollar Tree so I'm on my way to Dollar Tree now we leave out next Thursday from Galveston going to Cozumel and your video was good tips for me this will be me n my husband second cruise.
this literally has been 10000million times more informative and helpful than any other video I've seen (and I've watched plenty) I leave for my first cruise in 9 days and have yet to know what to pack but this helped so much!!!

The last time I was an a cruise was 40 years ago and I shipped my steamer trunk ahead and was able to access the hold an appointed days. My clothes were hung up in the steamer trunk. Thank you for showing me the 21st century packing method.

If it is time to get new toothbrushes, take your old ones with you and toss at end of cruise. Keep the new ones for at home!

I like that you do not have to check your bag if you use carry on size. We have cruised twice on Carnival Ecstasy had a large bag didn't check it (lucky I guess) but going on Breeze next so we will take 1 carry on each. Thanks for this video.
We checked bags on our first cruise and I didn’t care for it. We have done carry ons ever since 👍

I usually overpack; for most vacations, but I just finished 5 days on a cruise and discovered that I didn't pack enough! I almost ran out of underwear and I needed one more nice dress for dinner.
Oh no! Many times I have worn my formal dress on both nights. I figure I am only wearing it for a few hours.
Yes wrap the shoes in a plastic bags.. You packed everything Really good ..Nice choice on Jason's wardrobe... Great video...well done...
Fantastic! We are leaving in 3 days on the Carnival Inspiration for our 30th wedding anniversary. I have challenged my hubby to get everything in one suitcase! If we can pack for Vegas, we should be able to do it for a cruise. You are a gift of sanity.
YAY, I hope you have an amazing cruise!! We way over packed on our first cruise and brought home so many clean clothes that I said that would never happen again. Put out what you think you will need and them delete 25%. It is so much nicer to only worry with one bag! Glad we could help!!!

Great video! The tips were handy. If I didn't already have a slew of packing cubes, I would certainly roll everything. One thing hubby and I do differently is we have a hanging garment bag for his suit and my dresses for formal night. We are gonna be on t he dream in September so I look forward to your review@
I have never tried packing cubes before but a lot of people rave about them! You will love the Dream! It was such a beautiful ship and Chris is the best cruise director we have ever sailed with! We have been releasing a video a week of the Dream, have you seen them? We have nothing but positive to say about this ship!!!

Taking my kids on their first cruise (mine and hubbs 5 th) in May and I wouldn’t have thought to bring half of the non-clothing items you mentioned, like lanyards and clothes pins. Thanks!

+lisa leach oh wow the Vista looks amazing! You will have a great time! That ship is moving to Galveston in September on 2018, so we plan on cruising on her Spring 2019. Yep, it sounds like you packed a lot! We didn't wear half of what we packed for the first one. The boys are growing so fast!!! I have been rewatching last year's trip and they have grown SO MUCH in the past year!!

Question: When packing carry ons and flying, how can you transport the 12 packs? Or do you just put 12 packs in checked luggage items then take out prior to embarkation?

Probably a dumb question, but could you do a video of packing on debarkation day? With all the dirty clothes, worn shoes, etc, is it different? I know there's a pandemic going on so maybe a mock video of what it would be like? Just a thought because thats my problem and I need help!! LOL

Hey great vid and tips....can you tell me the brand name of your hubbys long sleeve light weight button-up shirts? I need a couple of those. My first cruise in March 2019 with my 17 yr old son. I also watched your one at the dollar store. Great tips, thanks!
The shirts are from Aeropostle, they are a pain to iron, but are very light weight. Hope you have a fantastic first cruise!!

What do you wear to dinner for other than formal nights? RC frowns on shorts at dinner so I always have to pack 2 outfits a day.
We have always worn nice new shorts and a nice casual shirt and never had a problem

I love Carnival, we have been on NCL also and find the rooms a bit more fancy and the staff is MORE attentive as far as taking care of you.
We are trying NCL this year! We are booked on the Breakaway once in moves to NOLA in November. We're so excited to give them a try!

I too can say I over packed for our first cruise, did better for our second and, thanks to this video, will definitely do better on our upcoming 3rd one :D I'm glad you showed how to pack for a 7-day cruise in a carry-on. I've done it for flights but never tried it for a cruise, so I look forward to trying that.
It's possible these questions may have been asked but the comments are many so I hope you don't mind......
1. l use Downy Wrinkle release on our casual wear but have you used it on the dress shirts, pants & jacket? We usually put those in a foldable garment bag to carry on and fold the clothes coming off.
2. Re the hampers, do you remove the laundry and pack them back or do you do laundry on the ship? We use Ziploc XL bags (see link below) as our laundry bags. We label each one based on how we do laundry and at the end we press out the air, ziploc them shut and drop them back into our suitcase. :) Oh, and we use one during the cruise for our wet swimwear.

Downey WR will not work well on dress clothes, I always take these and iron them. I do not do laundry on the ship, I just repack and wash everything when we get home. But the hamper is nice so the guys know where to put their dirty clothes... instead of the floor :)

+Michael Gonzalez hi there! Glad we can help! We used big pieces of luggage on our first cruise and WAY overpacked! Since then we scaled down and used one carryon size each and I got really good at maximizing space. Since this video we have gotten some shoe bags, I had never really thought about it until I started getting comments about them. So glad you enjoyed the video! Happy cruising!!! 😀
EECC Travels I'm glad you got the shoe bags they are handy I don't remember if you mentioned rolling dress socks up and place them in the men's shoes and I also place round portable shoe shine in the show as well which I get from the Dollar tree. Lol. IL start packing here in a few days as I mentioned I'm going to Cuba in August out of Tampa can't wait woo hoo. But once again I enjoyed your video.

I take OLD toothbrushes, just before the bristles are bad enough to toss.... Then.... after last morning, I toss em in trash because they're wet & ready to be replaced.
That is a good tip! Makes sense to have the fresh new toothbrushes when you get back.

Hi --love your videos, very helpful! First time cruiser here, when the cruise line refers to checked and carry on luggage, do they really take your luggage for you if it's not the carry on size and then take it to your cabin? I'm not clear on luggage sizes. thanks for your response!
thanks for the packing tips..I will be rolling our stuff for cruise June 2018 and using packing cubes also. nothing like teenage boys..lol..I have an almost 13 year old..whom I am sure I will never see on the cruise..
+Joy Allen so glad this helped you! Yeah the boys at that age are fun... I could find them in one of three places on the ship 1. Pool/water slides 2. Ice cream machine 3. In the room napping (they would wear themselves out)!
I wrap each outfit complete with shirt, unders, bra, socks, etc.... Roll together with rubberband.... Then no guesswork, each outfit is ready to pull out of luggage without digging for a shirt or socks, or whatever... ONE outfit per day! ... Then ONE formal outfit.... I think over-packing more than one tie is unnecessary too, or deck shoes... Most people wear sneakers or flip flops daily (pack two, wear one)

I’m binge watching...again. That youngster really likes the camera and of course his mom. Awesome video, I have a few questions...I heard a dog do you board him while you guys are away? And do you have to go for formal dinner and get dressed up? And one last thing...are you allowed to take sea shells if they are empty. I’m going to Hawaii and I want to collect shells
Our boys are so sweet and they get excited when I ask them to participate in one of these tips videos! We are lucky that Jason's parents keep Zoey when we travel. You do not have to go to the formal dinner, but if you do not dress up on the elegant evenings you will need to choose to eat at the buffet or another venue other that the MDR. And YES, you can collect sea shells, we have a beautiful collection from our journeys. Thanks!!

I bought a set of packing cubes to try out on this next cruise since I have heard such great things about them, but rolling has always worked great for us. Believe it or not I found the hat at a gas station on the way to Galveston to get on the Freedom two years ago. I had one like it before and it just fell apart from wearing it all the time!

Great video! Quick question: Any tips for de-wrinkling clothes, especially dress clothes, once you get on the cruise?
+Heidi Laferriere I always bring some Downey Wrinkle Release which is great on most things, but not so much on dress clothes. I always take them to the laundry room and iron them. If you do this go early in the day, if you wait until an hour before dinner the line is really long since there is only 1-2 irons per floor! Happy cruising!!!
It's good thing to invest in shoe storage bags there great and cheap on eBay .

Carry one swimsuit on you because your suitcase is sometimes not in your cabin for hours and you might want to swim.
+healthflo21 that's a great tip. We carry everything on and don't check any bags. We had a bag damaged on our first cruise so decided not to check bags anymore. We have gotten used to packing this size bag for all of our vacations.

AHHH IM GOING ON A CRUISE NEXT WEEK
You can't squash or roll up, a floor length evening dress; to fit in a carry on bag.
Some dresses probably not but I have done it before with mine.
Just a question about dinners in the MDR, and what to pack. I was going to make sure my husband and sons chose a couple of pairs of jeans/khakis for those, but I didn't see any in your packing video. My husband (who, like Jason, only wants to dress up once a cruise) would love it if he packed only shorts and then one pair of dress pants. Do Jason and the boys wear shorts to dinner? It sure would mean less packing for us if we did!
Hey Susan! Yes, on non-formal nights they do wear shorts in the dining room. The MDR is pretty laid back on these and you can really wear anything you want except for swimwear. Hope this helps!
