NHL '94 (SNES) - Fastest to 10 Goals World Record (1m47s)

- Today I decided to take a look on speedrun.com to see if there were any categories that I could run for one of my favorite games of all time: NHL '94. Turns out that there actually is a category: fastest time to 10 goals. So I figured, "Why the H not? Let's give it a shot! The current World Record is 2m34s, how hard could it be?"
Long story short, after only an hour of trying on my first day of attempts, I was able to accomplish this World Record. I hope you enjoy!

This is greatness. I mean, yeah, it’s beatable (actually tempting me to try…I had no idea this game had competitive WR categories like this) but the truth is, you will lose faceoffs, you will hit posts, you will get taken off the puck, you will get checked, you will get hooked, you will have passes kick off of skate blades, and failing to adjust properly to any of this means the run is over. I’m most impressed at the passing to find the open skater in the clear, especially the one late in the run…has to be so tempting to take the first puck handler available and just ram it down their throats rather than risking a pass.
I, also, had no idea that this category existed until two days ago. When I saw that the World Record averaged just over 15 seconds per goal I figured it was a pretty good benchmark to try to beat, but I never thought I would end up doing it so quickly (and certainly not by as much as I did). This run is definitely beatable, no question, but you're absolutely right: the grind will be brutal due to all of the factors you mentioned.
If someone were to win all 10 faceoffs, headman pass it back up to their center without the defense getting in the way of the puck or hooking/holding you right at the blue line, gain a clean breakaway and score (like the middle 8 goals were scored) then I would say that the theoretical max for this record could go down as low as 1:20 to maybe even 1:15 (which would require scoring a goal every 7-8 seconds).
I encourage you to give it a shot! Competition is always better than stagnation. And thanks for the kind words and great analysis of the video. You know your stuff, that's for sure.

Check the leaderboard some of the LEGENDS of NHL 94 like King Ralph tried it its not easy as Joe makes it look SEVERAL things have to fall in line

congrats on the record for a great game , with that said the 9th goal was abit lucky lol
100%. After the post hit I had to quickly scramble and figure out what to do on the fly. Luckily for me Yzerman was right there in the slot ready to accept a pass for a quick one-timer goal. In the end I only lost 4 seconds on that play, but it could have been much, much worse.

Hey now, I didn't make the rules on speedrun.com. If it were up to me I would have used the Blackhawks versus anybody they told me to use, but a world record's a world record, am I right?

Well i did played this and i did scored over 10 goals im pretty sure i scored 10 goals in less than 2 mins lol too bad i don’t recording my games 🙄

This is what I said to myself last night when I started my attempts, so it's definitely possible to beat this record.
@@joereinreb I think I vaguely remember checking the time between goals being 8 to 10 seconds when I was trying to score a few fast back in the day. So yeah, if you win every face-off and just drive and score on a dique every time, it could go down to about 1:20.
@@spinin1251 Yup, that's really the only way to get this record any lower. The likelihood of winning every faceoff and having their defense not hold you up at any point though is a pretty small percentage. For now, I'm thrilled with 1m47s because I can live with the world record being a total of only 27 seconds away from damn-near perfection.
