Totally agree, if you wanna watch the highest standard Rugby in the the world its the Aussie NRL, the pace, power, fitness, finesse, skill, is light years ahead of anything RU can manage. The State of Origin is the highest quality Rugby game in the world , and by a long margin
hahaha. too funny. delusional. league will always totally muller union in 7s. Always. Basic skills (fitness, running, passing, stepping, tackling etc.) far higher in League than Union (as Jonathon Davies said openly on the BBC once). Will ever be that way. If it was an NRL team playing ANY top union 7 sides, to this day, in 2023. the NRL team would obliterate them. Strange how you cant see this ? Too interested in rucks, mauls alineouts and scrums i guess ? Fair enough. But get real.@@mckay1402
Bradford got beat the night before in a table topper with Saints and got beat something like 50-20. Then they traveled all the way down to Twickenham but their coach broke down and apparently they had little to no sleep going into the tournament, yet they still won it at a canter even though they had no experience in it. How is this possible?!
Rugby League will always dominate Union for fitness, physicality and more importantly entertainment, its a fact. Glad to see League is more popular now about time it overtook Union. People started realising how entertaining League really is.
League beat union at 7s because they are use to the offload and fast paced nature of the game due to the 6 phase rule. I'm sure if league played a 15 sided game then union would come into it's prime. I take no biased side in League vs Union because I played both, BUT, you need to be fitter to play league which could be another reason why bulls beat the wasps.
I know this was 10 years ago, but what a difference. Someone explain why the olympics is union players only? Why not Great Britain RU v Great Britain RL for the honour of representing the country in London 2012? I wonder who would win ;)?
@@pseudapollodorus rubbish!! Union players signed boot deals and promotionional deals how many commentators on the BBC are from Rugby league the BBC was full of union players all getting paid and paid well how much do you think these league PROFESSIONALS where paid? most of them were only on wages union by this time was amateur in name only!!
When it comes to the commentators, Eddie Butler is soon enjoying the spectacle, while Jeremy Guscott is dying inside and covering it up with a small man's sneering condescension and ignorance. Guscott was offered a contract in Rugby League more than once, but never had the guts to test himself against the elite. Of the Wasps players in the final, Abbott stood out as someone with plenty of guts and a little imagination. He looked like he'd have been pretty useful in the professional game.
I seriously wish they would do this again. Full XV/XIII-a-side inter-code play is not really practical but 7s is a place where both codes would be on more even footing (with today's athletes, obviously not 16 years ago).
And Joe Lydon dropped one from further away on a heavy pitch back in the 1980s and not at altitude, so big fucking deal. That's all union can do is kick drop goals and play for penalty kicks, oh and the obligatory kick into touch every few seconds. Boring as fuck
I remember this. Bradford had been hammered 50-22 by St Helens in their "day job" the previous day (St Helens' first away win at Bradford in the summer era IIRC). I remember the commentators saying it was just as well St Helens didn't come to play too. I suppose it was a decent consolation for the Bulls...
I've been reliably informed that you're wrong sorry. The night before Bulls played Leeds Rhinos and won, an obvious must win for the bulls. It was played at Valley Parade. Their team bus broke down and the team didn't arrive at the London hotel until the early hours of the morning. Then got up and took the piss out of wasps!
manning0 Whoever informed you is mistaken. See newspaper reports from 18th August 2002, e.g. www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/3032924/Bradford-left-in-sevens-heaven.html "The Bulls proved eager for competition, despite their humbling defeat by St Helens in the Super League on Friday night." Bradford's win against Leeds was two weeks previously, on 2nd August. (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford_Bulls_2002) Sorry to be an anorak, but I have a very clear memory of this... :-)
Literally the only talk from RL fans on these games is how much more superior their game is to Union. There are zero comments coming the other way. One begins to suspect a hint of insecurity.
the players you see in the olympics are 7s players they wouldn't match up in a proper game of rugby but i will predict the match for you. well england rugby players have a strength advantages (as the england rugby union players are a shit load bigger). The england rugby union players have a speed advantage as they have faster player the england rugby union team has a ball handling DISADVANTAGE (can't catch for shit) and kicking skill is pretty even (although union players kick further).
Bet them union fans have never seen so much ball play and try’s because that score in a union game would have been 1 try all the rest of the points scored by penalties league a far better game than that kick and clap game
Lots of anti-union comments here, but this is sevens. Its a fast paced running game which suits league better. Maybe they should play a game of two halves, one league and one union with full teams. Things might be a bit closer...
I wouldn't say anti-union as such, it's more how us RL fans always get it rammed down our throats about how superior RU is even though to this day RL still loses players to RU professionally. Both excellent games in fairness with different attributes needed to be successful at both
this is sevens not rugby union,it is a very different game much better suited to league skill-set,only a fool would say that because of this league players are better than union, this was in 2002,a lot has changed the two games have converged hence the number of players playing both ,i suspect that in 2016 the codes would be more evenly matched.
This is straight bull. Wasps suck. This doesn't represent anything close. Union is superior to league. Made professional after league yet at the comparison now. League is a excellent sport dont get me wrong. Hard big men. But to say union is kick and clap. Then you dont know the skill set and gameplay of union. Running straight at an big meat heads running into each other over and over is pointless.
fullswing lol should be a nice empty stadium. Mungo League is a joke of a sport...... get tackled, hump the ground, stand up, roll ball under your leg, repeat 5 times, kick ball, repeat 😴😴😴😴. No wonder the superior code looks down on you mungo’s.
You can actually hear the commentator's hearts break into a million pieces by the end of the game, they were so positive at the beginning
Poor Union lads giving it a go. Bless 'em.
from a wigan fan ,,,, well done the LEAGUE LADS BRADFORD....
You can feel the Resentment from the kick and clap Crowd... After the Waspies Are Humiliated.
yep so fuck em
LEAGUE WILL ALWAYS BE THE BETTER GAME !
well i watch league but lets be fair rugby league came from union so lets respect it
"he's not called the volcano for anything" - no, he's not called it at all!
Yeah he got Tevita Vaikona mixed up with Lesley Vainikolo.
Brilliant play by Bradford making the ball do the work and then devastating handling footwork and pace. A wonder team
a beautiful thing to watch. the commentators give a lot of praise but guscott really does sound choked.
Anyone who's played both games could tell you who would win. Nothing's changed. :-)
This would not happen now. If you think it would you're deluded
@@mckay1402 As someone involved in both codes it would definitely happen again. League is a lot quicker now than it was 20 years ago.

the bbc bias to union shattered! the athletic ability of league the big difference!
Bradford lost to St Helens 16 hours before this match 22-50. There was nothing the best about the Bradford team. They all had about 3 hours sleep.
Absolutely superb. The Bulls destroying all the raa raas. Come on you Bulls

Much more roided.
Twikenham silenced by class! only noise when wasp stung once!

breaking news: a 15aside union team would win a 15aside union match against a team who wasn't a 15aside union team.

Scrums be key cos those massive Union props would have to excel at scrum time cos physiologically they'll struggle to defend space.
At this time the gap between League and union was wider than the grand canyon at least they had a good song SWING HIGH SWING LOW😂😂
Big Paul Anderson not playing as well. He would have been a handfull for the xv players
