As the Trumpeter is there it means this is a Long Guard meaning the King is in residence . A Long Guard consists of 1 Officer , 1 Corporal Major who carries the regimental standard , 2 NCO's 1 Trumpeter and 10 Troopers . A Short Guard is 2 NCO's and 10 Troopers .

My brother left the army after 24 years as a colour sergeant. If an nco or officer loses their voice they just get another of equal rank or slightly lower rank to give the orders.
