Very nice! The pictures in the Persian book are beautiful. It just amazes me when I think of the people who created all those statues and structures, and wonder how they did it. They didn't have the tools or machinery that we do today. My ears perked up when you mentioned British history. I just love it. Crown and Scepter sounds amazing.
I got into history my freshman year of high school, Mr. Cyrus taught mostly about Ancient History and I found and still find it very interesting; I find all history interesting....Persian History is interesting.
Hi Peg, like you, I would love to have a time machine to travel in the ancient times to see all these monuments in their original state and I often think of that as I also get the Archaeology Magazines even though I don't read them as fast as I get them; however, along with the time machine, I would also ask for the power of invisibility, so I could travel anywhere I want without the fear of becoming a slave or get in the middle of a war ; ) Great selections of books!!! I'm interested in all of them, but there is no escape from buying very soon these books and reading them hopefully as soon as possible : ) Aftermath: Life after the Fall of the Third Reich, Athens: A City of Wisdom, and Persians: The Age of the Great Kings.
I have "Aftermath" but haven't started it yet. And if Daisy has given us her "bite" of approval then I have to add "Hilter's American Gamble" on my TBR. And *BIG* Y-E-S to Ms Martine gracing us with her whit again. It's been a while!! And now that y'all have the new place, she could make an appearance IN FRONT of the camera ... just sayin' :)
The Athens book looks fantastic! But I am intrigued by the picture on the floor leaning up against the bookcase. Looks like a boxing match. What is that all about, Peggy???
Haha! That is a college graduation gift from an artist friend of mine...my thesis was the Overland Campaign of 1864, which pitted U.S. Grant against R.E. Lee. It shows Grant basically beating down Lee, which was also my argument...Grant was the better tactical general. :)
I don't think the Athens book is dirty, I think its just the cover design because I thought the same as you when mine arrived. How can this new book be dirty! There should be a warning : this book is meant to look like this! I also have the Crown & Sceptre book. Thanks for another great book haul.

Hi Peg great selection as usual.. Today I picked up Genghis Khan, Life, Death and Resurrection by John Man. Have you read it?
