2.5 lbs of weights? Anyone that has has been bass fishing for awhile gets pretty good at estimating fish weight. I can usually guess within 6-8 oz. How this idiot thought he could fool the tournament directors into thinking a bass is 2.5 lb heavier than it is is ridiculous.

This is where I’m at- I really feel like a bass would already need to be of a prize-winning (maybe record-setting) size to make an extra 2.5 lbs inconspicuous. It’s not an amberjack tournament ffs

That's how damn stupid people really are. They truly think everybody is ignorant and won't notice which is comical. Might have gotten away with 8 or 10 oz but not 2.5 pounds.

So long as money is involved cheating will always continue. We live in a society that has no respect for others and where people only give a damn about themselves. They could care less who they cheat, steal from, run over, screw, or abuse they simply could care less then when caught the penalty is so minor they are not detoured from anything bc they aren't penalized hardly at all.

So here’s the problem…it’s just a fish. Or at least that’s what lawmakers will say. Realistically the way you handle this is to carry out the punishment of confiscation of gear and boat, $3000 fine or 1 year in jail, mandatory felony conviction, and lifetime ban from competitive fishing. If they pay the fine to stay out of jail, then they get 2 year probation.

Speeding through no wake zones, cheating, accidents, tying up boat launches and animal abuse all in the name of winning money. The Ohio thing with LEWT happened in my neck of the woods and of course locally, those boys probably were better off in protective custody than anywhere else. The problem when someone is caught like they were is, they had been winning/placing pretty regular on this tour which brings into question every time they ever put a boat in the water, what really happened. If it had been me and I was losing to these guys, now I question everything, we all would.
now we eat the walleye, so cutting them open is a good way to police it. But with Bass? DOn't know about yall but I don't eat bass. Love catching em, but shit, I got yellow perch and walleye to cook up.

This is a state charge. Laws in that (and every) state to effect any change. The ONLY way to have the rules updated/changed is through pressuring you state representatives and stat senators. Can’t be an individual thing either. It HAS to be larger groups and organizations that pay and that VOTE. Also money is the grease in politics. Dangle cash as part of a political action group in front of a politician running for election is one strong way to get change. Yelling at the tournament and bemoaning the lack of strong laws don’t cut it. Bitching on a website is easy. Squeeze the politicians shoes. There are dozens of fishing organizations out there. I agree that there should be more penalties, but I also think that sometimes it sounds hypocritical with the animal abuse part. I think to take the hypocrisy out you should agree that sports fishermen that just catch fish for fun, or for money, not for food that end up killing the fish either because it was hooked bad or because the fish later dies should be fined as well. One could play that game, the fish was just there minding its own business and then you catch it and the hook goes in a little wrong and now the fish is dead, just because you were having some fun or sportsman time...

Okay, let's play devil's advocate here. Now this guy ran off, so I assume he is guilty. How can it be proven that anyone stuffed weights in a fish for THAT tourney? Example, an angler stuffs a fish, wins a local tourney, releases said fish, then here comes another angler a few weeks later, that catches the same fish, but this time, they find the stuffed weight. So how cool is to ruin this guy's life, with ZERO proof he/she was the one that stuffed the fish? He just weighed it in, and did nothing wrong. I'm all for penalties, for the right person. Again, playing devil's advocate here.
