6 BJJ Solo Drills For Hip Movement & Guard Passing (New Students Lack This)

  • In today's video I'll teach you 6 different solo drill movements that you can use while you're stuck at home to develop your BJJ ability.
The BJJ solo drills are centered around hip movement for guard passing and stem from 2 basic categories.
1st is the Back step. 2nd is the Hip Switch.
Now keep in mind, some of the drills are very specific to BJJ while others aren't. But keep in mind that BJJ is movement so if you make your movement ability better, then your BJJ will be better. Period. Plus I'll say that variations of all these movements have found their way into my Brazilian Jiujitsu game during rolling or competitions. .
In the video I focus mainly on hips because as a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu coach the area that I see many newcomers struggle with (in regards to their body) is hip movement. BJJ requires a lot of funky movements most people don't do in their daily life.
Also, I'm currently working on building my own movement up via a course on my friend Ryan Hurst's website: gmb.io/
He's a gymnast and a BJJ & Judo practitioner. His movement capabilities are amazing and if you'd like to go down the rabbit hole with improving your moment I'd encourage you to check him out.
    Hope the video was useful!
    Thanks for watching.

I'm 53 and just started BJJ a few months ago. These hip mobility drills are a game changer for anyone, like me, who has lost a lot of that functionality. I feel like I move better than I did 10 or more years ago. Chewy has several videos with these type of drills, I do at least one or two of these almost every day. The past few weeks at class I can actually feel the improvement. Hopefully this bumps these videos up for other people to find.

Solo drills takes real motivation because you don’t have that social element, however it’s the best thing we can do in these circumstances. Thank you for the hard work and dedication to your teaching. I just started my channel three days ago. I had no idea how much work when in to these videos. Respect!!!!!!

Solo drills are great not just for grappling but for general mobility, flexibility and natural movements. People should do this type of training even if they don’t do grappling.

I owe you a report back on this chewy. I done 30 of each of these after I finished my kettlebell circuit. These things killed me and highlighted how much work I need to put in. Thank you for all the content but this one hit the spot!!!!

What's interesting is how many of those movements are in capoeira or even parkour. BJJ step-through is pretty much negativa from capo, and also called "safety vault" - a way to jump over rails. Body mechanics are cool
