So I’m now 29 and just now heard this absolute banger of a song. This came out before I was born but I’m jamming here in 2023. Amazing music. I wish I grew up in these times. Thank you for this great song
J'étais une enfant lorsque j'ai eu le plaisir d'entendre à la radio pour la première fois Enola Gay et cette chanson. Je les aime toujours autant. Merci à Orchestral Manœuvres In The Dark.
OMD, they are still OMG after all this time. Electricity. Don't you you just LOVE the old songs, especially when you can remember them in concert, way back wht.
Orchestral manoeuvre vous étiez toute ma jeunesse ❤️👍. C'était les meilleurs années. Merci pour les beautés que vous chantiez et surtout le bonheur que vous nous avez apporté .❤️❤️🇨🇵
They were from the legendary Eric's scene in Liverpool, 1977-1980. The scene that also produced Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, The Mighty Wah, Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes to Hollywood), Pete Burns (Dead or Alive), Ian Broudie (Original Mirrors and later, The Lightning Seeds). And like all the great British scenes of that time, the spark that ignited it was the Sex Pistols.
It was rather like the Blitz kids in London, with Rusty Egan, Visage, Culture Club and Boy George, Midge Ure and Ultravox, Spandau Ballet...all inspired by a mix of Bowie and Kraftwerk...great times.
My mum knew Andy McCluskey. She was friends with a girl he used to date when they were in high school. My mum didn’t expect his singing career to take off and was shocked when OMD started hitting the charts 😂
Fun fact: most of the instrumets on this track are from the 60's: a Vox Jaguar organ, a Fender Jazz bass and a Selmer Pianotron electric piano (aka Weltmeister Claviset) playing the main melody. The other ones are the synth drums and Korg synth lead in the bridge, wich give away the era in wich this tune was recorded (1979)
The Korg M-500 did the lead and the high hat was actually the Korg in white noise mode, as was the Pssh pssh sound at the start. I have the same synth.
Actually you’re wrong about the bass. This version was recorded for their debut album which was released in 1980. In this version he plays a spray painted fender jazz bass but in the 1979 version he plays a left handed Wilson rapier bass.

For all of us who lived in the 80s we are obsessed by this period. It was so powerful that we never get over it. We are hunted by this spirit and whatever we do we want to go back in time.... Nothing is the same with today's world. All the innocence and romantism is lost

Yeeeeaaaahhhh! 80's one of the best times in music, I just like this song a lot.
Ronaldo Salinas this was released in the '70s dumbass.
Really the discovery of the Synth, the 80s were total awesominity!
I was very small when my father listened to your recordings ... I grew up with these songs ... Today I buy and collect vinyl albums from various countries with your songs
Keep on building and on to your musical library ! You can never have enough Music!
This 45 is apparently quite rare. If you have it keep it.

Great era now so far away
Such an underrated 80’s band in a decade of great great inventive music
OMG! It’s OMD!
These guys were ahead of their time with their experimental sounds. Loved their work!
They don't make them like that anymore. Brilliant music
this song and enola gay master pieces
Gerardo Moonreaver you omitted Souvenir, how very dare you?!
The last three new OMD albums (History of Modern, English Electric, Punishment of Luxury) are definitely a return to this type of goodness.
@@jeringodtv and souvenir & Joan of arc,...
Luckily there is not very much truth to that. Plenty of acts today are making music that is based in songs just like this one
Y sigo, escuchando ésta música aunque ya tengo 50+. Me encanta. No pasará de moda. 👍👍

Oh but we are. We are cherishing it. Keeping relics in our houses called vinyls. We are preserving their memories in our hearts and spreading it to everyone else
Humanity should preserve this world's nature

Απόλυτα σωστός!
J'avais 6 ans quand j'écoutais ce titre en boucle dans mon walkman. J'ai 48 ans et je suis toujours fan 🖤🖤🖤
I grew up in SGV this music was big for us Chicanos. I was born in 1988, but my older sisters raised me to listen to this. It all was takes me home. It makes me happy and sad at the same time.
43 years ago. 17 and my first night out with friends and this. Beautiful start for a wonderful time.
I like all music of the Orchestral Manoeuvres
I'd forgotten about this classic until the recent advert on UK television for cars......brilliant
Bring me back to the 80's. 😊

That's great to hear that this video brings back memories from your youth! It's amazing how music can evoke such powerful emotions. By the way, if you're into outdoor camping or value quality family time, I highly recommend the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It's a versatile and powerful backup power solution that can keep your devices running for extended periods. Check it out!
The 1980's were the British Renaissance era of music.
Lead singer has never really changed look-wise.

So many of the 80s are Prophetic! They’re talking about solar energy in 1980!!! And look now, today, wow, mind blown 🤯. I love the 80s music with cryptic messages and meanings. 80s ❤️ forever
2024 ... Shall be at their Leeds Arena concert (standing) so we can dance. Once upon a time could dance all night! Just as AM did!😂

Our one source of energy
The ultimate discovery
Electric blue for me
Never more to be free
Electricity
Nuclear and HEP
Carbon fuels from the sea
Wasted electricity
Our one source of energy
Electricity
All we need to live today
A gift for man to throw away
The chance to change has nearly gone
The alternative is only one
The final source of energy
Solar electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity
Electricity
