    I'm glad he added the second couple. Often times we picture international couples being two completely different races.
    It's easy to assume all East Asians, let alone all Asians in general share the same culture even though they do intersect at some points. In the end, there are far more differences than people are aware of.
    Same way with African-Americans and Africans. We may share the same skin tone and features but our cultures are vastly different.

    • @chrishudson9525
      @chrishudson9525 Před 2 lety +99

      Your point would be better made if they had met in Hong Kong. This girl is very Canadian, which is not at all an Asian culture to begin with. And anyone who is surprised that an Asian can come from a different culture has never traveled. The only reason that people would make any assumption, is because this girl can pass as Japanese.

    • @julitakamaki4386
      @julitakamaki4386 Před 2 lety +14

      @Micheal DeAngelo That may be but African-Americans would still assimilate in Africa far better than any of these people would ever be able to.
      Videos like this make for an interesting study in the unusual but human beings, on average, still prefer to look at faces that reflect their own in their everyday lives. That natural survival instinct will never go away.
      It’s definitely the reason why places like America continue to be heavily divided. No matter how much assimilation is forced.

      She was born in Hong Kong so has at least one Chinese parent who taught her about their culture. We have a lot of East Asians here (Canada) and even though they integrate well they tend to keep their traditions. IMO any East Asian would have an easier time integrating in Japan then other foreigners because of having similar cultures

      @@cottoncandykawaii2673 Learning about a culture, and being the product of a culture are different things. Did you hear her speak? Did you watch her mannerisms? This girl is very Canadian in how she comes across. Moreover, it's not very traditional for a Chinese person to move to Canada, and then get a Japanese boyfriend, and then move to Japan. So I would say that she's not too concerned with Chinese tradition.

    me and my Japanese hubby met in NZ in 1999 when he was doing a working holiday visa there. I fell in love with him the first time I saw him, but I was just a friend as I thought he would return to Japan one day and I couldn't imagine what would happen if I declared my feelings to him. so fortunately for me, he confessed his feelings to me!
    in 2000 he returned to Japan, and I went with him for a month to spend time with his family and him. then I moved to Australia to be with my family and then when the sydney olympics were on , it was very cheap to fly to Japan, since me and my hubby (boyfriend at the time) hadnt seen each other in person for almost 6 months, so we werent sure if we would want to continue our relationship etc.
    those days there was no face time or anything, and phone calls were very expensive, so we wrote to each other each day and sent the letter off to each other once a month, and we also talked over the phone once a month. we were then long distance after that trip (me in Australia and him in Japan)
    after several months we got married in Australia and then lived there for 2 years, and then we moved to Japan in 2003, so almost 20 years ago.
    I think the main difficulties is just typical man and woman things not particularly for culture
    perhaps the kiwi way of doing things is similar to Japan
    im very happy living here and raising our children here
    of course some problems will come up in the first couple of years, but that is common for any couple
    once you get past those, working as a team, and treat each other as best friend and partner, the arguments will not be common
    respect for each other is the most important thing

    I watched this video when it first came out, but I had to come back and watch it again because I just love that married couple so much. They're clearly a bit older than the other couples you interviewed, and they're the only ones who have gotten married, and I think that gives them a different perspective from young couples who are still just dating. I love that they talk about their relationship and how it started, and how much it's changed their lives, especially his. I wish them the best for the future ♥

    Same with us !
    I have a japanese boyfriend for almost 6 years now, he's in japan and I'm in canada.
    We've only seen each other for a total of 40 days in 65 months ! We met as a co worker here in Canada when we was in a working holiday here. We only dated about a month before we got official.
    He came to visit me here in Canada last August for 10 days and next year March I will be going to japan and will stay there for a month ! 🥰🥰
    Love your videos !

    Let's go deeper into culture differences in relationships! I've noticed a trend where Japanese men and women see the goal of a relationship as getting married and having kids. As a Westerner, our goal of a relationship is companionship, and many people are choosing to be child-free and sometimes not even getting married, but live like a married couple. But in Japan, it seems like people who want to be child-free simply don't have any relationships.

      I don't know what part of Europe you're from, but Poland, Ukraine, Belarus still belong to those more traditional unions. A woman who has many partners, according to the rules of these countries, she simply does not respect herself. There are a lot of singles, but they're not into fun, they're more focused on work.

    11:05 interview made me have a baby tear 💧 This man . She says “ A Japanese partner is always indirect and never says what they’re thinking”.. “I always have to guess what he’s thinking ” a little back and forth and he says 12:05 “I’m getting better, day by day”. Some times if you break open tough, hard, things? You find unique, “maybe soft”,and wonderful things inside .

    A lot of people tend to forget Asian-Americans or Asian-Canadians also count as foreigners when it comes to “Japanese-Foreigner” couples ahaha. My facial features can be similar to a Japanese girl’s, but the culture I grew up with is sooooo different.

    The first couple reminds me so much of my relationship with my wife. She is Korean and I'm from Texas, but we met at grad school in Kentucky. I was so impressed with her intelligence and ability to understand such complicated assignments in English after she had only lived in America a few years. After visiting her family in Seoul I realized our cultural differences were actually an asset to our relationship, because these differences require you to learn from each other on a daily basis and as the first couple stated you can't have a fixed mindset. International couples have to commit to a growth mindset, which is incredibly healthy in the long run and a huge benefit is that you never get bored.
