      @danharvey3096 Před rokem

      Yeah nah bro not true.. By either the Maori or the British.. The North Island has far more Maori & more Maori tribes than the South Island today because it did then because it was the North Island they settled first..
      The French narrowly missed colonising Canterbury in the South Island, when they landed in Akaroa but didn't have the flag or permission to stake their claim. So turned around to the French Consulate in New Caledonia. After which a month later the British arrived from the North Island & staked their claim..
      Abel Tasman passed by the top of the South Island before the British ever arrived to NZ. But he only passed by & mapped the area. But no settlement was made or claims staked..

    I wonder what Moa tasted like? Might have been nice and fatty, what with there being no survival pressure on them, other than then need to find enough Kiwi to eat every day. It's a pity we never managed to keep a few to farm. Imagine the broiler sheds you'd have for Moa. Huge.
    And I suppose someone would've had to find a way of breeding enough Kiwi to feed to them. Or chickens. Great way of recycling the laying hens it's so difficult to sell for their meat. And by catch, too. I hear the fisheries have huge by catch problems, and have to just dump it back in the sea. If you had a Moa farm, you could just pulp all the fisheries waste products, put it through Moas, and make a killing.

    • @sebastianmarquez3014

    • @danharvey3096
      @danharvey3096 Před rokem +1

      Moa were herbaceous, they had long necks to get the best leaves of the trees.. But they did have survival pressure however. The Haast Eagle, the biggest eagle that ever lived, evolved to prey on Moa. They had a wing span up to 3 metres, & bigger bodies bodies in proportion than most Eagles. They would sit in the trees & swoop down & pick up the Moa..
      When Moa were unfortunately hunted to extinction, the Haast Eagle lost it's food source, & so started preying on Maori children & smaller adults. So then the Haast Eagle was obviously hunted.. As amazing as it would be to have seen a Haast Eagle, it would also be fking terrifying if they were still around..
