    Here in the U.K. 5 x 3ml vials or pens of Glargine 100 units/ml cost around £35. Toujeo equivalent is around £65. Considering Toujeo costs double the amount yet it’s 3 times stronger in concentration means it would work out cheaper to prescribe the 300 units/ml. I will be asking my diabetes nurse to prescribe Toujeo when I next see her as I find I’m losing units by leakage when I inject 100 units/ml. I have tried split injections, slow injections and I always keep the needle in-situ for 60 seconds after injecting and I still lose insulin by it leaking out of the injection site (currently on 33 units of Glargine).

      @@heypharmacist I'm being told that store the toujeo pen intside fridge...even if we start using it ??? I've heard that insulin must be kept outside at room temperature less than 30 if it is opened.....but I don't know for toujeo...

    do people need to increase their dose of toujeo because, according to the package insert, 44% develop anti-drug antibodies (immunity to the insulin)? Is that a concern?

    Insulin cost 10 to 12 times as much in the USA as the rest of the world. 11 dollars per pen most countries.

    • @rickvenne6355
      @rickvenne6355 Před 4 lety

      You are correct about the high cost compared to the rest of the countries. The reason behind this is the middleman. PBM’s. (Pharmacy benefit manager’s.) Too many hands in the cookie jar. Plus the FDA and regulations need to be a faster process. The slower the process approval the more the drug will cost.

    • @Catajbr
      @Catajbr Před 3 lety

      You'd think the diabetes association in the USA would be on this case to make it more affordable for diabetic patients. I've heard that some of the manufacturers of insulin will give people discounts for their insulin. Good luck.

  • @monvici

    I switched from Lantus to Tresiba after 19 years. Over 1 month using this new insulin I've gained nearly 10kg so I'm over weight even I'm eating plant based food, snacks and fasting.. Nothing helps not even exercise. With Lantus I didn't have this issue.
    Does Toujeo gains weight?

    • @Catajbr
      @Catajbr Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe the weight gain has to do with your body adjusting to the new insulin and your weight will go back down after a while. I hope so because I am going to be starting on Tresiba soon. I was on Lantus too a few months ago for a few months. On Lantus I was losing my hair and getting bad stomach issues. Good luck.

    • @monvici
      @monvici Před 3 lety +2

      Nope. After 2 months of using this ready to get back for Lantus. No weight loss at all. Only gaining all even I have reduced everything.. Cannot wait until next week until everything will be back to normal. I used Lantus for 19 years and happy to be back.

      I'm a diabetes doctor. Have you spoke to your family doctor / diabetes educator? You might be injecting into a lipo area. Try injecting another area. Or try warming up the pen by rolling it in between your hands.

      Alejandritaa G. Same 40. The main difference is that Toujeo has more units per milliliter. Toujeo is for patients that use a higher dose of insulin.

    toujoe has 10-15% lower bioavailability than lantus this why we need to higher dose when switch pt from lantus to toujeo

      When condensing the older glargine molecule, the bioavailability changed. You don’t see this change with Novo Nordisks Tresiba
