Keep checking her and Nightwish out. I figure being a vocalist you will be more focused on Floor rather than the bands music, but keep checking them out because the Bassist Marko - also an incredible vocalist. Also be sure to check out nightwish with their original singer Tarja Turunen, they have an amazing rendition of Phantom of the Opera

Same here. I love almost every single piece of Nightwish but this is and will ever be my all time favourite just because it puts everything that Nightwish is made of into one single, perfectly orchestrated monument of musical history.

This song was performed in the midle of an almost 2 hour concert, and that is impressive!
Also, while Tuomas is a genius composer who can make this "crossover" work very well, this song had been written for another singer.
And it had not been long since she joined the band on short notice.
I agree. But, as a lifelong RUSH fan, their shows were routinely well over two hours - more like three - in length, and they did some of the most amazing musical gymnastics ever performed, with only THREE band members.

Nightwish in my honest opinion is one of the best metal bands hands down, her voice is so beautiful and nobody would of figured this style of music would fit her voice, but the band has proven everyone wrong on this subject

Floor is not only insanely technically versatile, but she has the gift to project emotions in her voice and put a spell on the audience.

Nightwish is what happens when talented classically trained musicians have a not-so-secret love for metal. There is actually an entire genre of music like this (though IMHO Nightwish is the best of them) called Symphonic Metal. Other bands in this genre that you may enjoy are Epica, Delain, After Forever (Floor's first band), Leaves' Eyes (they also have a bit of a Norse folk metal bent), and Within Temptation, just to name a few. It is a great genre of music. Also, Nightwish just released their new album, a 2 disk compilation called Human || Nature. I'd highly recommend that you listen to that, Especially "Shoemaker" and "How is the Heart?".

I’ve seen about 100 reactions to this song & Floor. This is probably my favorite. It’s great to see a classically trained singer give perspective on this metal Goddess. Congrats on having your first of many Floorgasms. I would suggest Poet & the Pendulum live at Wembley next. She shows even more vocal range through a score of 5 acts. I am binge watching the reactions for the last few months. I've been a fan literally all my life so emotions from their songs are nothing new to me, but seeing so many people go through the same is just so...yeah I have goosebumps literally everytime

The “non-correlation” between Floor’s voice and the heavy sound of the band is just about the most beautiful mixture that defines the extent of humanity.
The black and the white. The beauty and the beast. No story, especially not the one told in “Ghost Love Score”, is one-sided. People tend to be one-sided in their convictions, and that unfortunately gets worse as one grows older.
Nightwish, in my mind, is the conveyance of the human heart. The black and white that one can choose for the other, but never truly separate.

I agree. These are amazing songs, sometimes it takes me a minute to fully understand, but mate, the are fantastic. Combining all these forms of music. Although I think you must be a bit crazy to be in able to make this.
Wishing the Viking Queen a speedy recovery ... this performance is by far one of the top live performances ever ... the band was out of this world, and she delivered powerfully and gorgeously with a voice that can take troops to battle like a General!

This song is just so ridiculously powerful and Floor takes it to an entirely new level. I love the studio version but damn, she absolutely nails this song.
I think that the way she mixes all those singing styles is unique. And that is what makes this so great.

She had some classical training at a conservatory, did a bit of rock acadamy and theater school. In total she had about 6 years of training in different styles. That's why she can sing practically anything she wants, from growling to full operatic.
when I see vocal teachers, whoever watch and analyze this performance, and they say "ok", good", "nice", etc during the song, I'm always like "WAIT FOR IT, just wait for it..."

Bands like this with singers like this COMPLETELY BLOW AWAY most anything that comes out of America !! PERIOD !! This is why I have been listening to this genre or type of music for the last decade or so !!
Finally someone who noticed the odd time signature of the intro. The counting is like 1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3,4 / 1,2,3 / 1,2,3,4
Actually there are three key changes; 7/4 then 4/4 then 3/4-6/8 and 4/4 again at the end.
Floor is currently on a Dutch TV show titled BesteZangers (Best Singers). Basically they gathered seven singers and each episode the center one singer on a couch and the other singers take turns singing to that singer. The singers are from all over .. Opera, Rock, Pop, Latin etc. In the first episode Floor sings to Henk Port (Opera, Theater) and sings Vilja lied in German from The Merry Widow .. but modified to fit with her Symphonic Metal style I think - czcams.com/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/video.html
Linor is Dutch herself so I'm guessing she got exposed to Floor through the show Beste Zangers and decided to react to Floor in her natural habitat ;)

@@eTraxx Depends on what you mean by lesser-known. She's pretty well-known in the Dutch metal scene but that is such a niche audience nowadays that it doesn't mean much. The mainstream has pretty much no idea about the fairly internationally successful symphonic metal bands that are from The Netherlands. The Beste Zangers show might change that slightly I hope.

It seemed that you also liked Nightwish as a whole and just not Floor. Nightwish is a symphonic metal band. I am 65 yrs old and I discovered them about 5 years ago. I really don't like a lot of harsh vocals so I do not get into a lot of other genres of metal. If you really liked this I think you will like their music. Just give it a chance. It might surprise you. If you do not want to do a lot of reactions listen to it for yourself.
But I hope you will want to give your reaction to some more of their songs. If you do listen to more, for now I would do songs from this concert at Wacken 2013..................... :-)

This performance as a whole, with everything so tight, is a performance of a lifetime.
Vocaly, she impress me by how easy she makes the transitions between all the different songstyles sound.

The Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley and The Greatest Show on Earth live at Tampere are both worth checking out! They really highlight Floor's capabilities maybe even more than this song.
I argree this are 2 master pieces from Nightwish .The Poet and the Pendulum she have to do research first to understand the lyrics Nightwish fans know its a real emotional song for Tuomas

Nightwish takes you on an adventure with every song.
I think what I like so much about Floor is that she uses her voice and her aesthetic to command a presence that incarnates so many great things at once and presents an affirmative example that Beauty - Power - Control - Talent and Skill - Emotional Positivity - the things people seek out in life aren't mutually exclusive and that you don't have to abandon one in order to display the other, they can give the resulting value a multiplicative effect rather than purely subtracting focus from one another. :)
The comment about how Floor brings her own style to this reminds me of an interview I saw with Floor, where she mentioned checking out the two previous singers and their style and decided it was a mistake, and that is when she decided to add her own style to the music. Personally I think she is a perfect singer for the evolution of the band.

Floor is my second favorite simply because I like Anette's voice more, but she is definitely the best for the band.
@@Mothpuff I loved Anette's voice, but it wasn't a good fit for Nightwish as most of their music was written for Tarja whose voice was the polar opposite of Anette's. Although Imaginarium was perfect for Anette.

What makes this even MORE special... Floor had only been with the band less than a year at this concert!

That's why the band asked Floor to become a permanent member of Nightwish and also why sh accepted the offer. She was perfect in the role of Frontwoman.

I have watched a number of your reactions now and love how emotionally invested you are in the performances. This is especially true when there is something in the performance or technique that you really really like. I think back to the reactions you did of Dimash and how you become almost giddy and sometimes to be point of being flustered. Keep up the great work, really enjoy it!
i've seen this performance so many times and seen so many reaction videos to it, but no matter how much i watch it, i always fall in love with floor all over again.

Ummm, I am human and did not have any goosebumps. Way over rated. I listen to a HUGE variety of music and am always checking out different genre and music from around the world. I don't listen to just one kind. It just doesn't do anything for me. I find it amazing that people actually buy into this stuff.

I love when she sings to see your face, you can't help but be taken somewhere with Floor's voice.
It's so pure seeing reactions videos like this, and as I'm one who knows very little about singing, it was a nice breakdown to actually appreciate what she's doing with her voice, her control and vocal range.
I am very, very glad that I chose to go to Wacken that year because this was one of the best shows I've seen of any band. Take that feeling you got in that one song and stretch that across two hours with the atmosphere on top, I was just glued to the spot. I couldn't move. Like seriously, if you get the opportunity to watch them live, I say take it. Wear a black t-shirt, throw the horns and head bang, you'll fit right in. :P
The best bit is that prior to this tour Floor Jansen wasn't even in the band, I knew her from After Forever, who're a great band, but not one with the popularity or ability to pull a crowd that massive. So when you see her enjoying herself, I'm pretty sure this is her first time playing to a crowd this huge, the festival usually sells about 80,000 tickets a year and it was absolutely packed. And judging from her reactions between songs, I think she was just absolutely loving it.
Enjoyed the reaction. Floor is the queen, she is unparalleled. She is elegant, powerful, and just amazing.

I agree with the Poet&Pendulum requests. Bonus points because it has Marko singing in it. I normally advise against doing P&P too early, but I have a good feeling that you will get it! Use the Wembley version with lyrics for added effect. And, since it's quite hard to make out if you don't know the singers voices very well yet: The intro is not Floor but a choir boy.
The song itself has a pretty dark theme, Tuomas (the keyboarder and composer of almost all Nightwish songs) had a deep depressive phase after they fired their first singer and his youth friend Tarja (check out their Phantom of the Opera performancer from End of an Era some time). So he wrote all his feelings into this and actually kills himself in the song as a catharsis. Floor and Marko really bring those feelings to life - it's one of the most emotional songs for many Nightwish fans.
The song title refers to the story "The pit and the pendulum" from Edgar Allen Poe, where a prisoner is threatened by a slowly descending giant pendulum blade.

@@weibsvolken7150 Yes, I am aware, but that does not necessarily indicate a direct reference to the horror story by Poe. Also, while that is a visual given during a live show, it cannot be assumed that everyone has seen it. So, based off the lyrics alone, I wondered if the Pendulum was a lyrical reference to Poe's story.
@@GothicElf68 Tuomas references a "swaying" and "descending" "blade" in the lyrics. Together with the title that made it pretty clear for me and the visual from the show (and the album cover btw, since it was originally meant to be the album title) just confirms it. The meaning behind it in my view is the deteriorating relationship with Tarja, which went on for quite some time and was probably pretty painful for all of them.

This is my first time on your channel lady. Please prepare yourself this is quite an experience. I have read that this performance was at the end of Nighwish's set. Floor the lady singing is a trained singer with a wonderful voice. She is a mom, she rides horses, is wearing a cape, and most importantly she recently BEAT cancer. Linor just wait a bit. They all leave the stage. The drummer returns along with everyone else. At this point Floor proceeds to blow our brains out with her voice!! And she is a champion hair flipper! She directs and includes the audience. She is very expressive with her hands!!!

Watch her in the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers" (best singers). Very educational and shows off her versatility and technique. Probably technically the best rock singer on the planet right now.
Yeah it is not just the power or range that Floor brings to her songs it is also the stage presence. This band is best appreciated LIVE and Floor is the perfect vocalist as she is in her perfect environment when LIVE and on stage in front of a crowd. This was her coming out party having been made a member of the band just before the show. Here at Wacken, one of the great open air festivals for metal, she and the band performed before 80,000 metal-heads with a performance that was once in a lifetime awesome. The band is diverse and runs from Metal, Folk Metal, Pop and even ballads. Floor runs the gamut as well On the Dutch TV show she is currently on she has performed a aria in German, a Folk/Pop song in Dutch, A Salsa song in Spanish and a Country/Blues in English. That 4 genres in 4 languages, her fans call her the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal but she has proved even us wrong as she is capable of so much more. Great reaction and insights. You know you did a great job because there is no real complaints of the interruptions because they were for some great comment or insight. Floor had a year of classical training and also studied musical theater, which explains the stage presence and how she uses her hands, arms and body while performing on stage.

I stopped listening after they kicked tarja out even though it was her fault. It was tough on me cause i listened to the band since its creation. I remember reading the letter they posted for the public and just feeling crushed.

Quite certain that you would enjoy exploring more Nightwish or particularly the below mentioned Dutch show, Floor is participating at the moment. There she just proves even more what a skilled and versatile performer and singer she is.

That's her style and that's why we love her. It made her stand out to the band when they were looking for a replacement singer. Her vibe is intense.
This is a sub genre that falls under the big umbrella of heavy metal. This is called symphonic metal, containing the properties of both western classical music as well as heavy metal. There are several bands but Nightwish is one of the most popular. Floor Jenson is the 3rd lead vocalist. The other two lead vocalists are also extremely talented. Glad you enjoyed this. Feel free to enjoy other symphonic metal music.
To experience all of Floor’s vocal prowess, you have to react to “Song of Myself” from the same concert, it will knock your socks off!
Also, keep in mind, this concert was in front of 80,000 people, AND it was more than an hour in to the show!

I saw Nightwish reaction so I'm here. You've only seen a fraction of what Floor can do, and the rest of the band are just as talented.
Nightwish are a Symphonic Metal band, combining Metal with classical elements. Their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen, was a classic vocalist. Floor had some pretty hefty shoes to fill (there was another singer inbetween, but she had a far more contemporary voice and wasn't so well accepted from what I heard). Thing is, rather than trying to fill those shoes, she instead crafted her own.
The vocal for this song was originally performed by Tarja. Floor took this song and made it her own (while still being respectful of the original) in such a way that nobody can touch it now. Floor is an extremely talented vocalist with some classical training thrown in. The result is an insane number of colours to her voice. She can sing pretty much any style. She's not perfect and Tarja would most certainly have superior technique but music is art and Floor paints with a full palette.
Floor has little against Tarja. Good singet but still...

One may personally prefer tarjas sound. No doubt.
But to claim that she is vocally and technically superior to floor is unsophisticated and simply false.
I like tarja and she is very good at what she is doing. But she in no way is a fully formed classical singer. She cannot project over an orchestra unamplified. Plus, her singing limited to a rather small range of tone and colour. She has a rich deep voice and her trademark is that piercing, metallic, huge operatic high range. Which is splendid. Given the very slow, almost wobbly vibrato, which is a matter of taste if you like it or not.
Floor however has access to a vast amount of colours, sounds, styles. She can sing operatic, she has a gigantic and piercing mix voice, she can apply various degrees of distortion, even grunting, her belt and mix voice range is outstanding. Plus her diction and expression are very good.
Floor simply is the more skilled and more versatile singer. Which doesn't make tarja a bad one. Tarja is also very, very good and successful. But technically and expressively floor is simply better.
Oh that floorgasm moment hits, and boom the pupils dilate, the eyebrows raised, containing the excited passion under a poker face, you relaxed , smiled and loved it didnt you 🤘 welcome to nightwish..and metal !

Thank you for this reaction. Have been waiting for an opera singer to check out Floor in Ghost Love Score, or anything she sings. You were so right when you said " the way she sings it no one will ever sing it like that" and " she will never be replicated" thank you, that was the best statement of floor I have heard. I usually don't like pausing, but with you, I kind of waited for your comments. Nightwish music is not easy to sing, you have to be a good and trained singer because many songs was composed to an opera singer Tarja Turunen, who was the firs singer of the band. If you like check put Dead Boys Poem, both Tarja and Floor is doing the song beautifully, so it's hard to say which one...but thank you so much for this, I really enjoyed it.

Floor is genius. She isn't just operetic herself, she's actually a classical music instructor, and has been for decades.
Well two decades anyway, she's only 40 years old.
I've watched quite a few reaction videos of Nightwish and this song in particular, even from other vocal coaches and teachers. Must don't go any further than "her voice is amazing". I love the depth in which you analyze the vocal performance of Floor Jansen and how she integrates with the rest of the band. Well done and I'm looking forward to other reactions from you.
I love watching reactions to this song. Watching the listener being awestruck over and over again through the song and seeing the trance take over is so satisfying.

Although this song is the most reacted song on youtube (for good reason, it's the introduction of Floor Jansen and Nightwish to most people) it's great to get a professional perspective.
Her fans all know she can sing, I mean REALLY sing like no one else can.
After all we've seen her sing in many genres in many languages and in different bands.
Floor always brings her A game, there's no try or attempt with Floor, she just does.
Everything she sings is 100% effort and emotion and add to that her ridiculous range and versatility and the ability to sing different techniques and in colours and emotions, we know there's no one else like her.
She's also a beautiful, strong role model for women, commands respect from her fans, takes no shit from anyone but is very humble and sweet in interviews (and in person I expect.)
After the tumultuous history of Nightwish and their singers (they've fallen out with two before Floor) Floor was brought in as an emergency to help the band complete a US tour part way through.
She had two days to learn 16 songs and she won over the fans and the band as soon as she stepped out on stage.
She was given the fulltime vocalist spot at the end of the tour and the band has exploded musically and in recognition across the world.
This show to 80k fans was after the US tour but before she got the permanent job.
There are many faces to Nightwish, Ghost Love Score is one of the more mellow ones but all of their songs bring something new to the table. Bombastic, heavy, opera and classical, lofty, beautiful, folky, even jazz (on one song) and they have an utterly dedicated almost rabid fanbase.
They are more than symphonic metal, they are music and no matter what they do, it's just Nightwish with that Nightwish sound.
Any song you listen to by them will cover some of what Floor can sing but I've got to be honest, I'm not sure any of us have seen everything she can do.
Beste Zangers the current Dutch TV show surprises even fans every week, we all know she can sing... None of us know everything she can sing... I suspect she can sing everything :)

Me encantaron tus comentarios. Se ve que se sabes, eres la primera persona que veo que se da cuenta de que el principio de la canción tiene compases con tiempos irregulares. Y eres la primera persona que veo que dice cosas sinceras sobre la voz de la Jansen. Lo que hace en sí buena la canción es todo el contexto, la composición, la combinación. La gente sólo le presta atención a ella y cuando lo hace, se pierde la mejor parte la canción.
El mejor talento de la Jansen está en el belting, lo demuestra al final de la canción, pero no en la voz operática.
