Definitely not one of Fords better ideas , the old style dipstick under the hood would be much better
I agree, this isn't just a Ford thing though most of the new cars today are rolling off of the assembly line with sealed transmissions. Sealed transmissions mean it is harder for you to check the transmission fluid level and service the transmission by yourself. I like the old days of being able to check and monitor all of this stuff.
Good video guys. It is what it is but at least one knows how to tackle this and when the tranee is filled. Great tip on when leaking back out its full. Thx!
Glad this helped you out
Yea ,I agree, this great video saved me alot of time ,,I was thinking top fill plug, bottom drain,,but as most said on comments,,not Ford best idea,,kinda believe it,to fix or repair daily,,wish it wasn't so true
Thanks for checking out our auto repair video that shows you how to check the transmission fluid level on a Ford Explorer. Have a great day!
That is the craziest way to check the fluid. Why not have a trans dip stick??
Unfortunately this method is becoming more common across the board with all vehicle manufacturers. They want you to bring it to the dealer.
How many quarts does the transmission hold total ?? Does the torque converter have a drain for maintenance purposes ??? Thanks
It might hold 11-13 quarts. If you have the Ford dealership run your VIN number they can confirm what is in your Ford Explorer for a transmission and how many quarts a total transmission refill would be.
@@HomeOwnerRepair Thank you Sir for the information. I will do just that fella. Peace vf
Thanks guys! This helped me a lot!

Are you supposed to pull the plug out all the way or only partly ? I tried this and all my fluid came our
Thank you very much for this beautiful video.I am always very impressed whenever i see how people like you are able to answer major bugging questions. But i wish you could have shown more details. You have more or less done an overview. I felt you would have used a vehicle with shortage of transmission fluid to do a thorough demonstration of all that it entails. Such that the full view of every step would seen. However this a personal opinion and not a condemnation of what you have done. And wish you would really understand what i mean and not see it as derogratory . Thank you so much
The video shows how you have to check the transmission fluid on this particular Ford Explorer. We also explain how to top it off and show the special nipple needed to fill the transmission.
The only thing you did not explain is how it was found in an 'overfull' condition at your original check shown here! There are only two answers. 1) It was over serviced when new or 2) someone over serviced it before your original check. Great video, but you should have explained that to clear up the confusion of how it was found over filled! Thanks! @@HomeOwnerRepair
Amazing that my 2012 RAM 1500 HEMI has the trans dip stick. Yes these modernized computers on wheels as complicated as the American government.

Interesting reading this as today, it looks like the torque converter on my '06 Explorer exploded... I'm going to look at a 2011 Ram 1500 tomorrow as it doesn't sound like repairing the Explorer is worth it.
I have a 06 mountaineer and there is not a drain plug visible on the transmission pan where else could it be
The engine needs to be running, transmission at running temperature(140 F), and transmission in neutral?
I believe we had it in park
My 05 lincoln ls is exact same way
Thank you for watching our auto repair video that shows you how to check the transmission fluid level on a Ford Expedition. Have a great day!
how about doing the same thing on a v8 6r60 transmission?
We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to check the fluid level on one of these transmissions.
Seconded this request
Fluid is full when the vehicle is warmed up and coming out in a stream. If you let it drain out until it stops then the level it going to be low.
The procedure shown in the video is the correct transmission refill procedure on a Ford Expedition.
Wherever you located
New England
I wonder if these oil and lube shops do this to top off?
Good luck...lol
😅 none that I know of
That the 5e55 or that 6r669?
6r660
It is the 5e55
Never just top off fluid, drain and refill the whole system.
Thanks for watching.
Bro i did what u said to do and my all oil drain out why ??
When you refill the transmission through the hole in the transmission pan the excess fluid will drain out of the fill hole in the pan, when it stops dripping out the transmission is at the correct level.
Same 😢
Que medida es la dado torx
We say what size 25 seconds into the video
An you add transmion fluid. from top ofptpr
Watch the whole video, it has to be transfer pumped into the transmission.
Get a portable lift drain pan, it'll save you time, a mess and a headache.
Thanks for watching.
There is no bolt on the bottom of my transmission.. □:
If it is the same model there should be one unless you have a different transmission and it's a different procedure.
IF true, then you probably have an auto trans fluid dipstick where you can easily check level and add fluid thru the same port with an auto trans long tapered funnel that fits into your dipstick port!
Transición de esplorer 2006
Thanks for watching.
It didnt looked like you checked it it looked like you drained it
This video shows how you have to check the transmission fluid level on a 2006-2010 Ford Explorer. There is no dipstick, you have to siphon pump in the transmission fluid until a little starts to come out. This video shows the tools needed and the whole process.
cant tell if the truck is running, or is that background noise, you dont mention it in the video
The truck has to be running when you check the transmission fluid level. Hope this helps you out.
You can hear it running 😂
Sometimes I hate ford. Great car though. But this is insane . Nobody is going to do this on their own that means we need to get it in a garage on a lift jst to do this shit and u need to pump the oil back up into the transmission that’s too much work for something simple .
That doesn't true, 2008 explorer have other system, worse but diferent
Well, looks like the 2008 Explorer has its own unique quirks to keep us on our toes!
No
