The way the conversation derailed with the closure of Bombay airport runway because of “metro” is why this podcast has lasted this long and why it will go on regardless of topics. There is no replacement for 4 friends just sitting and chatting about relatable topics.
Hi guys, pilot here. Random interesting shocking answers to your doubts.
Aadar: Flight crew reporting times vary from airline to airline depending on the type of operation and aircraft type, whether or not you go through the airport or have direct access to the aprons from your airline’s HQ. The longer reporting times are usually for major long haul carriers operating larger aircraft where the crew need longer to prepare the cabin for passengers. Especially business and first class. Smaller low cost airline reporting times are usually between 1-1.5 hours prior to departure.
Kautuk & Varun: You’re right, we don’t really need to know the place we’re going to prior to flying there. We can brief a departure and arrival into any airport fairly quickly and perform the flight without ever having been there. Varun, you’re right about certain airports which we can’t. Usually airports which are high elevation airfields or around high terrain which require special training from certain operators. Kathmandu in Nepal is an example of that.

Reporting time for domestic flight is 1hr-1.15hrs before departure(depends on airline procedure).
Reporting time for international flight = 1hr 30mins -1hr 45mins before departure (again, it depends on airline to airline).
Cabin crew reports earlier than the pilots. These are pilot reporting times.

Back in 2014 I went on a indigo flight to Gujarat from Pune it was class trip to ISRO so there were 50-60 students going most of us were first timers so once the plain go up we started getting funny feeling in our ears slowly but surely the panic kicks in then one of the girl (who we later found out that was "accidently" pregnant) started pucking then everybodr started getting this mass hysteria reaction started puking with her. Obviously every one was okay but I have never seen a teacher loose their shit so quickly.

Once returning from Nagpur to Mumbai, the gate didn't have any air bridge and had to walk from the gate to the plan. Before getting onto the plane, turns out the plane was actually going to Chennai and not Mumbai. Due to some confusion, this gate was calling passengers for chennai as well as Mumbai. There were more than 100 passengers waiting outside the Chennai plane and the staff taking statements of everyone. This itself delayed the Mumbai flight by 2 hours.

Flight delay story : last month
I had a flight on a Saturday 3pm to Delhi and I had college that day for which I booked it for the afternoon, even tho I’d have to miss the mehandi function of the shaadi I was going to attend
Barely made it to the airport on time
BUT IT WAS AIR INDIA. so the flight got delayed by 15 min then 30 then almost 1.5 hours and I reached Delhi at ground 6pm and had my friends pick me up cuz I had a meet up planned
Result : GHAR MEIN KALESH ki ladki pata nahi kidhar ghum Rahi hai kaun lene jaa raha hai
The excuse I came up with eventually was that Air India fucked up bad and got delayed by 4 hours that’s why I was late 😂😂😂

In Heathrow Airport. Stuck due to a delayed flight from Bengaluru due to fog and missed the connection to Atlanta. Beautiful timing for this episode to drop 😂.
In Dec 2022 I was flying from Hyderabad to Pune. The flight was landed on tarmac, no aerobridge and there was no one to guide the way to the airport and we have to walk to the airport through so many airport vehicles, they are confused, it was dangerous and un organized

Airlines not providing info is universal. My colleagues, friends, and myself have experienced random delays (sometimes pretty long delays) in the US (domestic travel).
this past november when i visited pondicherry, i returned back to chennai for coming back home to mumbai, on the day i was suposed to return i woke at 8.30 for a vistara flight of 11.30AM from chennai to mumbai, i was in the bathroom scrolling my phone and got a message that the flight has been PREPONDED to 9.30AM ...i was furious i just got ready somehow in 5 min without a shower an brushing teeth and left the hotel , fortunately i had selected a hotel very near to the airport and the hotel provided the taxi to airport , i reached airport in time, the boarding had started so was able to board the filght......i never thought that a flight could be preponded....

Currently on a 10 hr journey by road because our plane in Mashad, Iran was not granted permission to land due to bad weather conditions and was sent back to Tehran where it originally flew from. All the flights to Mashad tonight are cancelled siting bad weather conditions. I don’t get it because yes its cold (1 degree) but there is no sign of snow. So our 50 min journey has turned into two days uncalled for adventure.

20:15 . the difference between Atal Setu and Gokhale Bridge is that theyre made by two different authoritiies. Atal Setu is State Government and Gokhale Bridge is Municipal Corporation. You might say both are government bodies, but there's a lot of differnce in how well they function. My best guess is corruption within the MCGM.

Few months back i had a crazy flight experience , was supposed to land at 8 pmish . Flight couldnt land due to bad weather and of course plane was shaking like a toy , had to land in punjab or somewhere . Then after an hour back to delhi at 1 pm. Then i was complaining how umsafe flights are , one should only prefer trains , and right next week there was a big train accident in the news , hundreds of people were injured and lost lives.

Systems gps working on different operating systems for different visibility range are installed in flights for which pilots are trained pertaining to different categories. Most Indian pilots are not trained for ca2 or ca 3category (least visibility) as it cost around 5-7 lacs for training individuals. Hence shortage of pilots and respective staffs. Read this on mint newspaper. Not my personal opinion.

Yes , in the Ranvir Shorey's case , no pilots were available and flight was delayed by 8 hrs (not sure about time). Aviation industry is short staffed and employees are being exploited
