How a radial engine works: Documenta (13) Kassel, Germany

  • Part of an installation by Thomas Bayrle of various cutaway engines at the dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel, Germany.
    Gives a basic insight into the design and workings of a radial engine such as those used in propeller driven aircraft. Watching this engine was quite mesmerising but now wishing I'd taken more video of the other engines as well. Where does the art come into all this?... apparently there are prayers being played along with the engine sounds!... but that doesn't explain much!
    Obviously in these cutaway states the engines were being powered by electric motors, and the clips after the credits are from boxer (opposed cylinder) engines

    Considering how incredibly complicated it looks, I'm surprised how reliable it was.
