Subnautica is more traumatizing than the Arks ocean tbh. Just get a shark and you'll feel a bit braver. Even a Mosa feels so small if you have a high level Megalodon with you.
I think the sarco is an underrated tame. It's fast and you can use weapons while on it, not to mention it can easily beat alpha megas if you just keep circling around the tail and striking, which comes to its next strength, fast attacks and good speed.
I think the sarco could be on the list as it’s very fast and you can shoot from the back, easing taming dinos like mosas or plesios, they are basically faster megalodons that can also go on land 👌 Edit: you can also dismount players in smaller tames with the deathroll
People crap on the sarco all the time and I honestly don't understand why. They are relatively easy to tame, and they have a very low saddle level compared to allot of the other things you use underwater, they're extremely fast, and to top it off they can flip 180° to attack behind them, giving them as massive advantage over pretty much anything else as they effectively have no turn radius
I think the Basilo is my nr1 underwater tame. It does everything. Great HP, good damage, immunity from stun, fast enough, small enough, kills everything in the ocean. It's the Argent of the sea.
@@zbychulatara Not sure if it was intentional or a glitch, but Baryonyx (as well as Kapros, Procoptodon, Galli and a few others) now just shrugs off Bolas and keeps running at you

Another cool fact about tusoes is that when they have something grabbed you can still keep attacking and even tho it deals less damage, you get healed for somewhere around 100hp each hit
I just wanted to say this, the Ichthyosaurus is probably the easiest aquatic tame because you can passive tame them AND their saddles dont cost much at all AND they are decently fast
First off, clever name. :) I never really liked the Tuso, until I tamed my first one(rather than using a tribemate's) due to the movement and turning 180 degrees to attack, but it's really a fun tame once you get used to how they operate.
Basies are amazing! Mine can tank and kill an alpha tuso. I use my beast Baryonyx to tame basies, I can kill the entire manta swarm with two spins. Then you just jump off and shove the kibble on the basie. Love these two tames and my Thyla!
Definitely Barys for number 1, they kill AND harvest the kill in the same bite! I always use a team of 4 Barys and usually call them Seal Team Six coz they go anywhere and kill everything.
Crystal Isles has Dunkys and Tusos on the beach. Go to the bottom left corner island and fly over the shore areas of that island to look for beached Tuso (got both mine there, used a Rex to bite the beached tuso while I ran up to the mouth to tame -this took a while cuz it didn’t want to attack because it’s beached, but after biting it for a while it retaliated and was tamed). Got my Dunkys from the beach nearest the dune desert near the charge node. Was charging my batteries and making element when I spotted their fins poking out of the water, so I trapped and tamed them with Dino gates.
I personally like Basilosaurus as on most if not all maps, Basilosaurus's deepest depth it can go to is the start of where a Tuso (the squids) will spwan
I've been hearing some people say the Bassi got a bit of a nerf recently, in that the damage it takes when going deep is a bit more serious now. Between that and the megalodons now getting a bleed attack, you might want to watch your Bassi's health a bit more carefully these days.
I bred a bloodstalker with good dmg, health, stam, and oxygen. Those things can swim very fast underwater and can glide across the surface of water quickly. They can also allow you to shoot while riding them. Really versatile
One way to tame creatures from the deep is by attracting them to the surface, they will start to run away from you so you can bug them on a rock, after about 2 minutes they will be aggressive again
Additional tip for anyone that comes across your comment and wants to do this: you can take a raft and build pillars down underneath it and mark the exact heights that each creature won’t attack you. Did this when i played religiously like 4 years ago
Frog is my early go to stamina doesn't drain in water and pushing A(on xbox) while in water shoots you straight to surface good for deep water when scuba tank breaks
While I was getting silica pearls from the depths I saw a small shadow of a tentacle getting closer to me and immediately got on my megaladon and when I turned to see if it was still chasing me I saw it lost interest but dang that was close
That bottom right square on rag should actually be green as that spawn location can only spawn the mosa - 2 guaranteed mosa at all times (leaving render and coming back is nearly an instant respawn, excellent place for farming alphas)
For the Tuso I have used a megalodon with high health the trick to taming these things is be fast and almost any tame will work as you only have to feed the Tuso once if you have enough black pearls
I found a level 22 Basilosaurus (high for me because I am on easy mode on mobile) in the shallows in south of the "stonehenge" area, I killed all the mantas with my sword however with full flak (mastercraft chest piece, ramshackle and apprentice everything else except primitive gauntlets) my gauntlets broke to the mantas and I lost half my health (there were four low level mantas) I was then able to tame the Basilosaurus and it is super helpful.
Not even an honorary sarco mention. They’re amphibious, have one of the highest base movement speeds while in the water, and anyone with raw meat, a crossbow and tranq arrows, a raft with a bed on it, and a dream can tame them. A pack of four high level sarcos straight bully megs.
i know im late but thanks for the tips bc i went underwater to tame a tuso/giant squid and used the basilosaurus and was wondering why it would not hold on it

Just a side note in contest with other posters: Sarcos are good beginning tames but they have the same issue as the Mosa and Pleiso; they need to be facing the thing they are attacking and the turn radius is just disgusting. This is why the Basilo is the best overall underwater tame (barring an experience with the Tuso, which I have not tamed yet). You don't need to move or face your attackers on the Basilo. Just chill and fight. It doesn't get better than that. Also I think its one of the only underwater dinos that doesnt need to worry about jellys. Not even the mosa can claim that.
I recently tamed a lvl 145 basilosaurus and the only other water creature I had at that point was a low lvl dolphin and i also didn’t have any water gear or even a fabricator and I’m still surprised tbh
Good sadle on a Dunko that you tamed and cranked hordes HP into, would that be a good sacrificial mount to use? I could see someone grabbing like level 5 Dunk and spending the time to level it and purely crank all points into it's HP so it's just a behemoth of a tank.
On rag I'm on my raft to get oil, silicone pearls, chitin and whatever else trilobites drop and I come across 1 or 2 basils each time I thought they were not good but I underestimated them
