    The reaction of Ferrari crew, when Kimi is snatching the pol, it shows very clear how much they were "supporting" Kimi: no jump for joy, just scared and amaized smiles. Why do you think is that?!

      They wanted Santander money, the team was also launching an IPO in Brazil.
      The plan was to help Felipe and stop Kimi by rejecting his development requests.
      Michael Schumacher, who was technical advisor this year, admitted Kimi hated all the upgrades and said that ruined his season.

    Both Raikkonen and Alonso drove fine laps here but if Ferrari would have fully supported Kimi this season he would have easily clinched the championship instead of taking Santander sponsorship and Ferrari changing Kimis suspension mid season without telling him not to mention the dubious leaks by some members of his constant talk of "motivation".

      @@double.u1577 I would recommend having a internet search of 'Kimi Santander and the 2008 Story" It's a very interesting read how politics ultimately decided that neither of the Ferrari drivers managed to clinch the driver championship. Also LDM was involved behind the scenes I believe.

      @@ajmalhussain3574 Yeah Luca was behind quite a lot of stuff
      I think he even gave Schumacher an ultimatum in 2006 of having Räikkönen as his teammate or him leaving and Massa staying (which happened, of course). Luca wanted to sign Kimi for 2007 100% so it was either Michael or Felipe.
      Also Luca did not really enjoy the power that Todt, Brawn and Schumacher had over him regarding the F1 team so he pressed the nuclear button on Schumacher and made him choose.
      Just a whole big mess that Ferrari was in from 2006 to pretty 2021.

      @@double.u1577 The way Montezemolo froze Schumacher out is just mystifying. He was still driving brilliantly and the team was still fully behind him. It just seems like ego - I can only assume there was other political stuff going on that drove Luca to go after Raikkonen and give Michael the ultimatum. I'm pretty sure Michael would have won the 2007 and 2008 titles fairly comfortably - it's no secret that even though he snuck the title in 07 Raikkonen didn't really get on with the Bridgestone tyres, whereas Michael had helped develop them to virtually his own specification.
      Then the team (allegedly) went and turned against Raikkonen barely a year and half later anyway. Mad.

      @@tmb8807 Montezemolo really massively screwed things up for Ferrari and himself. They could have quite easily gotten the '08 title with Michael and '07 pretty sure as well. '06 was a little mishap cause of Schumacher's Suzuka engine problems, but had that not been, Michael could have possibly been a 10-time champion. Maybe even 11, had he been more patient in '97 Jerez.

    Great stuff! Such a great qualifying session. Always really enjoyed the ITV coverage apart from the adverts but the whole team with Steve Rider and Louise Goodman were excellent, they are still doing great work with BTCC now. And the commentary partnership of James Allen and Martin Brundle was top class, I much prefer Allen to David Croft.

    Well to be fair can't really compare them because the Renault at that stage of the season was no match for the Ferrari. Great lap by Kimi but also think it's one of Alonso finer laps as think he was only 3 laps lighter than the Kimi with a car that wasn't as competitive and was only just denied pole.

    • @ciaronsmith4995
      @ciaronsmith4995  Před 3 lety +7

      Kimi had 4 laps more fuel than Alonso and 1 lap more than Massa. That translates to half a tenth per lap. So 2 tenths worth. 2 tenths + 1 tenth= 3 tenths net ahead of Alonso in qualifying. That is not small. Piquet Jr is trash and was in Q3 too so clearly the Renault was up to it. Kimi also outqualified Alonso here as teammates despite the car being undriveable for Kimi. Enough said.
