  • On June 30, exactly one year after Egyptians voted for Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Morsi to become their first-ever democratically elected president, millions of protesters filled central Cairo and town squares across Egypt demanding his dismissal.
The Defense Minister, General Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, promptly issued Morsi with a 48-hour deadline to heed the protesters' demands or face military intervention.
Was this another Egyptian revolution, a military coup or-as some feared-the beginning of a civil war?
With the clock to the army's deadline ticking down and the whole country poised to see what would happen next, VICE went to Cairo to find out.

so your nation tried and thought they killed jesus, they didnt believe in moses after so many miracel in front of their eyes , for example after they crossed the sea they prayed for the golden pig. so jesus, josef, and many other prophets and egyptians and palestinens, and, and, etc..

Strange to say the issue was only two camps - Islamists versus seculars. One of the Muslim Brotherhood supporters disputes it in this very video. He mentions the small upper class of exceptionally rich folks that has ruled Egypt across different dictators in the past 70 years. He later claims these are mainly Christians, but all of the rulers and most of the richest of Egypt are muslim, from what I can find. Claiming this to be a muslim vs secular disappears the class struggle that has been going on in Egypt the past 70 years, a struggle between social security/justice and liberalist capitalism. Farmers having their land taken from them, driven to poverty in the big cities, dismantling of social security, forced privatisation by the World Bank a.o., taken advantage of by the rich Egyptian elite as well as the Western rich elite. A secular state doesn't have to be a liberalist capitalist state, and as Morsi showed, an islamist state didn't mean the opposite of it. As a working class/middle class European I disagree strongly with what the role of rich Europeans in the exploitation of Egypt, and I support the fight for social justice across religious beliefs or lack thereof.

Dictatorship is the only thing that works. Look at Libya, Irak, Tunesia. The Arab spring was a big mistake. In traditional Islam the people have to follow the rules. No place for interpretation. How should followers suddenly be able to take responsibility. The 10 % of hipster youth doesn’t help. It has to be a 100%‼️ First thing to do is true secularism, no mingle in of religion leaders. But even that is light years away. And when I’m in Cairo as a solo travelling women & always get stared& sexually harassed, they think they’re fit for democracy❓❓❓❓

Gosh the dynamics are so complex in the middle east. Hard to be black and white about who is right and wrong. My 2 cents - Overall I feel any kind of force that tries to fuse politics and religion is a bad force even though it appears like they are saying all the right 'constitutional' or 'democratic' things in short term. That guy in the same sentence said that morsi was voted to power but wants sharia and he would like to be 'controlled' by islam ( 12:43 ). Seems like its bit contradicting statement and belies the fact then that long term he expects morsi to push the agenda of sharia and more islamic 'control' thereby morsi pledging loyalty to islam and placing it higher than constitutional loyalty. So constitution is subordinate and subserviant to islam. I can understand how islamists will prefer that but believe me you only have to look around middle east and 1400 years of islamic history in the region to prove that it has never worked. Even at the time of the Rashidun Caliphate with people like Abu Bakr, Umar-Al-Khattab,Uthman or Ali it did not work. Power corrupts and with islam in control you still have to rely on humans to act as agents of allah and sharia is archaic and from so long time ago that there are million ways it can be used to abuse. Just go see how every country gets ruled by mullahs, dictators, sheikhs or some meglomaniac. You DO NOT WANT SHARIA Egypt. Wake up and get real. So when this guy says things like we would like to be controlled by islam ( 12:43) he is pipe dreaming. It may have been a great statement in 7th century or 11 century or even in the 19th century. But after 2000 years of political lessons this planet has learnt one thing is clear - DO NOT MIX POLITICS AND RELIGION. So in short if morsi stands for that and even if he was elected he is on wrong side and its good to get rid of him.
I also hope that the secularists and army don't go berserk and become like him and resort to vengeance while dethroning him but do it peacefully but sternly.
Good luck from India and hope you develop a culture of tolerance and democracy like my country. I am sure you can. Good luck.
