- I hope you enjoy this video of me discussing my experience of working with Aflac. Warning When they hire you, you must immediately start studying for the Life and Health Insurance License. They will not let you actually go out into the field until you have successfully obtained that license. Which they provided all of the information on how/ where to study for it and where to go to take the test. It was honestly very easy, I passed it on the first try and I want to say I obtained the license less than 30 days after I started studying for it.

I work for Aflac, in the beginning they train you on their products, but it is impossible to teach every scenario and rebuttal you might get. The first two years were brutal, but my husband had a good job so I didn't have financial pressure. I chalked up the first two years as being like getting my AA in college; learning, studying and practicing.
I just kept cold calling and presenting. Once I was able to convince an employer to offer it, the product sold its self. The money that came in from that enrollment paid for a lot of my time I had spent previously. I got better and better. My first cancer claim sold me on my lifetime career. 36 years later I get up everyday like it is my first day. I have over a Million dollars on the books because I worked it like a full time job. It works, and I would recommend it to anyone but it is not for everyone. BTW I am not in Management or a recruiter. A Normal Mom of 4.
Awesome accomplishment, high five to you! That said, your experience is not common, most insurance agents nationwide, regardless of the company, quit after 6 months to 3 years. New agents need a 2nd job or financial support from family. It's a hyper competitive industry, it takes a high level of tenacity and networking, even more than car sales or selling final expense/pre paid burial plans.
It was a way different story 36 years ago. Today the market is totally saturated and bled dry. Aflac has a cult mentality. They make empty promises and teach you to lie (what was your made up sob story to sell the cancer package?).
If I previously had Aflac and was released from my job, then the policy lapsed ( I miss this letter and all of the hustle and bustle of being unemployed in looking for a new job) got pregnant and want to be reinstated.... Will this current pregnancy be covered? Or will I fall into the 10 month probationary period and not be covered with this pregnancy because the policy lapsed are basically have to start over from scratch?
@@misanneone Depending on the policy you had, you could reinstate it/them. However pre existing conditions would not be covered. On the reinstatement form it will ask if you are pregnant, if yes they will not cover it. Sorry.
That is awesome. That is the catch 22 with sales, especially insurance. Easy/low barriers to entry. But it takes grit and having to hear 'no' 90% of the time. Most people can't take that rate of rejection. You made it happen, you did the things most people don't like to do. And that is not talked about enough. Congrats to you.
Why didn’t you tell people this is not a job job. You have to take the life & health exam. You have to pay to study the course. It’s also $100 for exam and if you do not make a 70 or above, you fail. You are not reimbursed if you fail exam and you cannot become a life insurance agent until you pass the exam.
But she didn’t even talk about E&O coverage that is required by law and $1000.
Nor did she explain that you cannot just go to any business, if they do not have 3 or more employees, you cannot sign them up under a group policy.
Aflac districts is rather stupid. You need a license per state, Florida is by county but most states as long as you have license there, you can sell to its residents. No districts.
On payment, she’s also incorrect. You can request daily advances, which she did. Daily advance comission pays you the full amount you got paid from that group. What insurance agents who have been in the field for a long time do, is they wait for it clear and then DO NOT have to pay any chargebacks from people who have canceled their policies
I was a full time agent for about 3 in a half years from December 2017 through May 2021. For anyone watching this video and wanting some advice if they should take the leap, be aware of the risk you take. Aflac provides you with no leads, salary, or "insurance" if you fail to generate any business since you are 1099. It is EXTREMELY difficult to generate consistent business in this volatile economy, and the only people that manage to make it are those who are rubbing arms with the right centers of influence and have established partnerships. Canvasing door-2-door like what was described at 4:30 in this video is not a very efficient way of working, and the success rate is extremely low.
I don't attribute my failure to Aflac themselves as I do so much with the way the insurance world works. Much like the real estate business, it is a 10/90 business, meaning that top 10% of agents are making 90% of the commissions and money. Making it in the insurance world is not a what-you-know but rather a who-you-know business. At the end of day, people buy insurance from people they know and trust and not from strangers off the street and the people that succeed are those that have close friends and connections to centers of influence like HR managers, business owners, and CFO's. Coming in with zero leads I did and you barely stand a chance.
So just some food for thought if you are a potential new agent considering Aflac as starting your own business. At the end of the day, you are selling insurance policies and without the right existing connections, the risk-reward ratio probably won't make sense for you.
You can make those connections. Spend money with businesses. You frequent businesses. It is like any business.
Thank you for your input. I applied this morning on the promis of 3 month training, $41k yearly wage and a potential of $62k a year on top of the $41k. 3k bonus for 3 month training etc. I knew it sounded too good to be true.

The thing you stressed that I liked most was “what’s the criteria for hiring someone?” If it doesn’t seem like much, like they’d hire anyone, beware. Also, the commission only: If a company is not willing to invest in you, there’s no loss to them if you’re unsuccessful. Every 1099/commission job I’ve applied for, I was offered the position even before an in person interview. Most companies actually reached out to me 1st. So what’s that tell us?

They will not hire anyone. You have to pass a state insurance exam, that is not easy. You also have to have a background check and get fingerprinted. Also, commission is the best form of pay. Your bonuses and raises have no cap. Not to mention that Aflac is a Fortune 500 company that has been around since the 50s

I have an interview tomorrow. I would have told you to stick with to see for yourself. It adds character having experienced something like this. Then learning the truth about the business. You can always quit. It’s a 1099 job anyway.

Being an insurance agent as a career is 99% outside sales/cold calling. Not really a way to make a living unless you have a book of business, doesn't matter if its State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, etc. Very much like running your own small business. AFLAC does run lots of television commercials to create awareness with the public, but online negative reviews from customers are hurting their reputation because they feel the company didn't help them at all when they where sick/injured.
Not true, it all depends on your hustle. You can make a great living in sales.
They also don't spread any of the online leads to agents. So all the marketing AFLAC does is of no consequence to agents. They don't see any benefit from that.
My area they want you to come in every Monday. I have a full time job, and I only sell insurance on the weekends!

What they do not tell you is that doctors do not like filling out the forms and Aflac will not pay without the forms filled out. Even when they do get filled out be prepared to wait at least a month to see a penny. One of my guys recently had a hernia and they called it an illness that wasn't covered and he went 6 weeks without a penny paid and the7 finally paid 4 weeks of it. They have no problem taking your money but you will have to fight to get a claim paid.
Switch companies. Aflac screws over it’s non captive agents and it’s policy holders
Aflac sucks, your right about them taking your premium but when it’s time to pay a disability claim they take you through hell, literally. I’ve had Aflac for 18 years and never used the disability. My Aflac rep filed a claim on 12/5 they said the doctor signed in the wrong place and that it wasn’t legible, my doctor filed it out again and it was resent, during all that there was a claim filed back in 2020 when I had the covid that was denied 😡, my rep filed that one again. She called and they said a check was sent on 12/18. I called myself and spoke with cs, she assured me a check was sent for the 2020 claim and my 2023 claim is still being reviewed, Now on today I received a denial letter for the 2023 claim that’s supposed to be in review and no check that they supposedly mailed on 12/18 😡🤬TAKE MY ADVICE AND FIND ANOTHER COMPANY FOR YOUR SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE 👌🏽😡🤬
I am in Southern California one of the most expensive states to live in aside from San Francisco and New York. I love Aflac been her less than 2 years. I do it full time and been promoted twice already. You cannot just survive on one outlet, I am a full time insurance agent as a broker. It depends what region you are in for access. I am blessed to have the biggest access to an account. City of Los Angeles employees.
You need a balance as an entrepreneur. The Aflac renewals and bonuses are well worth the labor.

You really need to realize that you're running your own business. You get advances so make sure you teach your clients to pay their bill. If not, you need to payback your advances. Prospecting is how you get clients. Aflac is good but not for everyone.

Do you really need to record the mileage daily or is once a month also acceptable for tax purposes?
Well technically the IRS says record it in a way that IF you were ever audited and asked to show proof, you would be able to successfully prove how many miles you drove for that whole year
The one that I use is called Mile IQ. I tracks every trip. You have to label as personal or business. It keeps track of each month. It costs $5.95 a month. That is a tax write off itself. Then during tax time, print the mileage out, give it to your tax person, and you are straight! I do taxes as well as sell insurance. All potential insurance prospects!

@@SportsSimp honestly, the team was very supportive and if I had no time-sensitive financial obligations I would've stayed. Another hard part was getting told no hundreds of times a week, just for the two people that said yes to cancel. You need an insane ability to keep trying even though you fail 99% of the time.

Dont do it. They will lie to you. Make promises about "being your own boss" and making your own hours. Its bs. The market is so saturated with agents that you'll spend 90% of your time getting hung up on and pushed out doors.

I worked for World Financial Group. No door to door sells, worse. They make you “cold call” your unsuspecting friends and family on the 1st day. I wasn’t even licensed yet. It was awful. After I get this new job with a real salary, I’m calling everyone back, to apologize.

Primerica too they make you list down all of your family and best friends and tell you to “practice” on them and have them buy life insurance from you or sell insurance to eachother among the agents, super weird lol

You're such a ray of sunshine that I've watched this video before I started with the duck and now that I just got on. EVERYTHING you've said is truth so far lol. While waiting for the state to approve my temporary license, I was waiting with no clue what to do next and had no clue when aflac was going to call me again. Then, one evening, my DC called me like at night introducing himself and told me there was a meeting the next morning at the office lol.
I honestly was expecting a huge meeting with all of the big shots, tons of agents on way too much caffeine, a stage like the one Apple uses when announcing a new iPhone, spotlights, and a loudspeaker and an announcer like at the Grammys or Oscars calling me on stage, where a blue Aflac blazer would descend from the ceiling of the ballroom and everyone would be cheering for me and welcoming me to the team lol.
Then we would enjoy a huge catered buffet and so.
NOPE, lol.
There was me and another new guy, three DCs and the main agent. There was no huge deal or catered buffet. There wasn't even a blue blazer or even a polo given out lol
I think there was box of those hard, crunchy granola bars that you get from Walmart and that's it lol.
The meeting lasted for what seemed like less than an hour, and I left knowing less than what I came in with lol.
That being said, I am excited, and I like the small crew I've met so far.
My DC gave me some leads and some supplies to take home to study, and I think it was almost 800 leads....and I use LEAD loosely, as I think it was just addresses of businesses in one area that was totally unvetted.
I did try one of the sheets of leads the next morning to cold call and generate approvals to drop off our literature. Out of 44, probably more than half didn't answer, some said no, but I did get four to say yes, I could bring them information. Strangely, my very first call was a yes to drop off information, so I was excited lol.
Going out today to visit the prospects I found, and hoping for the best, because I need the money lol.
I wish you were my trainer lol.
I do want this to work, as no matter what happens, I plan to become a broker and sell Final Expense from multiple carriers at some point.

Can you plz help me with my Aflac? I just got out of the hospital. I was in ICU for a day then a regular room for 2 more days. I have the hospital coverage. I had diabetes ketoacidosis. My insurance won't pay for my insulin. I need help plzzzzz
If you currently have Aflac, you just need to call 800.992.3522 (this is the claims department) and give them your identifying information so they can look up your account to see exactly what compensation you qualify for. Ask if you have coverage for prescriptions and also see if you have short term disability coverage so they can pay you for missing work. They will tell you how to send them a copy of all your hospital invoices. They will also probably email/ mail you some forms to also fill out and send back to them (if they are not able to get all of the information over the phone from you).
In addition to what the young lady shared with us on handling your claim, you had an Aflac Benefits Advisor sign you up; technically, the Aflac Benefits Advisor is supposed to help you if you run into challenges filing a medical event claim.

That’s a bad scare tactic and will lead to cancellations in long term. What you actually should do is get to know your customer. Ask them about their families and their job, based off of that, you sell them products they will need. You create a sense of need, not urgency

Theres no “expected” income because everyone is completely different and has a differing experience while selling AFLAC
It based off how much work you’re willing to put into it. You don’t make an hourly wage, it’s all earned comission. If you talk to a group of employees at a business and none of them sign up, you make no money. If they sign up but don’t fill out all the questions, you make no money. If they lie about previous health conditions that would bar them from buying said product, no money.

I hope you didn’t accept that, there are better and much smaller supplemental insurance companies that have better products and treat you like family instead of just another number.
Most insurance agents who go for companies like colonial, Aflac, Aetna, cigna, UHC, banker’s life, etc fail out within first 6 months because they don’t really train you. So you may learn the products a bit, but did you learn about your renewals? Did they tell you that even if you closed a group, that renewal can be taken from you by the agent who contracted you? And there’s nothing you can do about it? Or how most businesses you go into that they said were leads already have said products you’re selling with Aflac? So you’re just competing with fellow Aflac agents instead of competitors.
If you apply with smaller insurance companies, you aren’t competing with every single life insurance agent within your 100 mile radius that also works with your company, you’re competing with competitors. So you can price match and product compare.
Honestly wondering what you're doing now with a corporate network phone on your desk. Certainly very cute, but the mannerisms? You don't need to try to be cute, you just are. I know Aflac isn't a scam, but if I get an illness and need to skip through a brochure about whether or not I'm covered, submit paperwork, and wait for approval if approved, I'm probably better off just saving my money. You're a 1099, meaning self-employeed, so as far as criteria, just about anybody that can pass a backround check or drug test probably could work for them.

It was just for my summer internship. Once the summer was over I went back to my regular job on my college campus, which was easier to balance with my school work.

It depends on what products you sold. Each product has a different pay rate. It’s per sign up in group that gives it higher payouts. Your life policies will always pay more, whereas your cancer, accident, etc will pay a set rate unless they add a rider, etc
