This is one of my top 5 dream axes. Just gorgeous and crunchy.

That soloing over Everlong was amazing!
Fun fact, that headstock was originally on the Trini before the Reverse Firebird. It’s more ubiquitous on the Firebird, therefore known as a Firebird headstock. It’s probably more accurate, however, to call it the Trini headstock.

Actually learned how to play on a Gibson Trini Lopez like this. A friend left it at my house for awhile. Mainly learned to play lead on it while not plugged in. Sounds great!

The Custom version was a cool guitar too. It was basically a Barney Kessel that was double cut with the 6 in line head. Pretty radical for a real hollow body.

I don’t know much about Trini Lopez but they must have been pretty special for Gibson to change such a iconic guitar design so drastically. Has Gibson ever done this for anyone else? (Dave Grohl doesn’t count of course)

Not if I’m playing it. Lol. I must have the touch of death when it comes to Gibson electric guitars. I own a 68 hummingbird and have never had any problems with it. But hand me a perfectly tuned Les Paul- even one that’s just been professionally set up & it will sound out of tune when I play an open A minor. Some people can play through it but i am OCD when it comes to intonation and cannot continue practicing or with a live gig without either avoiding the G string completely or trying to retune while the singer tells a story or the drummer hams it up playing moby dick. I love the sound of a Gibson Les Paul/SG and love the way they look- but I cannot stand how every time I buy one, or try one I can never get it to sound in tune to me. Solos sound great, power chords sound great, but open chords drive me nuts. Oh well this is an old story & I’m surely not the first with a love / hate relationship with Gibson electric guitars.

Fender copies Gibson's 335s with their Coronado models so Gibson copies Fenders headstock on their Trini Lopez models
66 was the first year for the Fender Coronado
