- Rob Mashburn picking and singing "My Wildwood Flower", He is one of the smoothest singers and pickers that you'll hear. His timing is perfect. He hails from Cherokee County, NC. So sad that he departed this life so soon.
Robin A. "Rob" Mashburn passed away on March 03, 2000. He was a young man at the age of 57. Everyone referred to him as: Rob The Picker. He is still missed after fifteen (15) years. The obit was posted in The Citizen-Times Newspaper in Asheville, N.C.
Tempo, key and voice…Perfect! Now , this is Pure Country, in my humble opinion.
I have herd this song all my life (82) this is the best I've ever heard.
It's been around for at least 161 years. The Carter Family recorded it in 1935. It was composed and published in 1860 by Maud Irving and J.D. Webster. The original title was "Mid The Ringlets" Thank you for the comment. I agree with you that t's the best version.

I absolutely LOVE this 10/10 version of this beautiful folk song, so glad I just found it on the wonderful CZcams👍. The fiddle and voice harmonies give me goose pimples, totally magnificent, such amazing talent, very well done I'm so impressed and will be buying a CD too for playing in my old car. @@rickeybullington6314 The cause of death was cancer. He was strong and continued to perform during treatments as he grew weaker. Such a loss of a wonderful singer, song composer and performer.

Hi Mary, I've tried to locate some of Rob's family, but without success. I corresponded with the owner/manager of WKRK in Murphy, NC, but he couldn't help. I wanted to obtain more recordings, but so far nothing. After Rob passed away, WKRK in Murphy advertised his recordings that could be purchased by contacting the family. Since then, the family is not known by any of my contacts. Maybe they relocated to another area.

Can I buy a CD? this is fantastic
The CD is not available as I have been unable to locate a source. I purchased mine at a live performance in North Carolina. The studio that produced the CD has been closed for years. Rob passed away about 20 years ago as well. Read my reply below to Mary.

Thanks for viewing. The Mashburn's apparently arrived from England. The surname spelling was probably Marshbourne or Mashbourne meaning dwelling by a river. Likewise, surnames such as Miller, Farmer, Smith were applied to the type of lifestyle/career or location. Also, in the Appalachian culture, names were recorded by Census takers according to how they were pronounced by the citizens.

L.G. Sosebee - High Tenor - He has outstanding power, timing and above all, perfect harmony.
I've researched a little more and can only find that Rob is on lead and L.B.Sosebee comes in with tenor with a unique blend of vocals that is out of this world.
