- A church leader and several other people have been injured in a knife attack during a religious service in Sydney, Australia.
A man was seen on a live stream approaching the bishop and stabbing him several times. The incident comes on the day of mourning for six people who were stabbed to death in a rampage in the city.

It's a great shame the shopping mall didn't provide him with adequate stab-proof clothing; I hope they protect their guards better in future. Far too many security guards have lost their lives due to stabbings. May he rest in peace. 🙏🏻

No, the Bondi killer did have a reason. He was schizophrenic and wasn't on his medication and was likely in psychosis from what witnesses described on the day and the day before. He also from the sounds of it had it very severely and struggled with it his whole adult life, being in and out of treatment, and with his parents basically having to be his carers because he was that unwell. He wasn't able to hold down a long-term job or be in any kind of stable relationship. So while sometimes the mental health label is abused, in his case it makes sense. He was a very unwell person who needed to be in hospital, but sadly nobody realised and called for any help.
As for this attack, it's all speculation at this point. But it was a singular attack done by a teenager. Whatever his motivations, it's no excuse for the prejudice in these comments.

I was a victim and was stabbed three times in my back and neck in a random attack. One went through my lung and out my chest fracturing ribs. I was revived on the helicopter being flown to St George Hospital. The long term suffering never lessens and now I can't go out in public. I have to lock myself safe inside and it's killing me.

Not defending Sydney, I left the city of my birth in about '84, moved to Brisbane.
I would ask a rhetorical question. If two men in similar locations, in America, decided to go on the rampage and kill people indiscriminately, do you think they would have had guns? If these two maniacs in Sydney, could have got guns, do you think they would have? If they had guns, how many people do you think would have died?
I am and remain critical of John Howard for the way he seized the opportunity to impose much stricter gun laws, after Port Arthur. I don't object all that much to the laws, I object to the way it was done. John Howard lived for a crisis. If he didn't get one, he'd manufacture one.
The people in Sydney are not that different to the people in America, but what is different, is how difficult it is to buy a pistol, or an assault rifle.
Most of the many people who died in Rawanda, didn't die of gunshot wounds. But if everybody in Rawanda had been armed ~ would that have made the genocide more or less traumatic?
