It does something to the psyche I think, when what drives you, what takes immeasurable perfection from an ordinary perspective is only just good enough to be passable from yours. Sure, he can shoot _a_ movie with just 24, but not _HIS_ movie; that's not good enough. It's like that carrot-on-a-stick metaphor, except for Howard Hughes the satisfaction he sought was locked in a twenty-ton safe, hidden in a labyrinth situated at the bottom of Niagara Falls. Perhaps that's why genius and madness (A.K.A 'creativity') have some overlap as personality traits.

There are so many amazing and monumental stages in Howard Hughs' career and personal life that were brilliantly recreated...This particular scene sits high on my list.
What is missing from this discussion, the need for cameras wasn't for more angles. The FILM couldn't be changed while in the air. He had to pick up a whole camera to keep shooting.
and thje LENGTH of the shoot, per camera, was very limited. Remember it's not electric, it's a winded mechanism.

The movie is perfect aside from one thing: Howard Hughes was on average a head taller than everyone else surrounding him.

Leo is 6 feet(maybe 5'11 1/2). Not bad. Howard was 6'4. Hey, what can you do? I'll take Leo's acting talent.

There were only 10 Technicolor cameras in existence when MGM shot GWTW and they insisted on having every one of them. Real lace was used on the southern belles undergarments though no one saw it. So he was not the only one who liked perfection in his films. They just don't want to help him. Imagine if Howard had had a better support network the sky was already the limit for him.
Good thing they didn't. If he made more movies he might not have messed with his planes as much.
A similar situation was is Kubricks Dr strange Love the round table in the VIP bunker had green felt on it because he wanted make it seem as they were playing poker with the world. People didn’t understand why because the movie was purposely shot in black and white

Just a tip from someone formerly in the Business. Technicolor and Panavision didn't sell cameras. Big studios rented their cameras. Still do, so this scene was a little fakey to me.
I haven't watched this movie in a long time, exactly why did he need 26 cameras?
he needs them because the FILM in camera ...it's LENGTH...was very short and
you can't "change" the film in the airplane.... you have to be in a completely DARK room to change or it "over-exposes" the film and it's gone.... ...and all the work, is gone.
today they use "story boards" to work out the shots and angles.
Howard was making one of the first 'live action" film and so the methods were being worked out.
It cost Howard $25,000 per day to shoot scenes that he never used in the movie.
To me, this scene is like an old school humble brag. Howard doesn’t really need the extra cameras. He’s just letting the biggest d!cks in Hollywood know that his is bigger.

He was also on a couple of episodes of Entourage, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm. He made a successful career in the tshirt business but acting was he passion. Thank you recognizing his work. My family and I appreciate that and Uncle Stanley would have been so touched.

Why is the background so "bluish"?
I think it was to resemble the half-fake colorization attempt of 1920s movies.
From Wikipedia: For the first 52 minutes of the film, scenes appear in shades of only red and cyan blue; green objects are rendered as blue. This was done, according to Scorsese, to emulate the look of early bipack color films, in particular the Multicolor process, which Hughes himself owned, emulating the available technology of the era.
