Fun story. Last sunday was commander night at my local LGS. They charge $10 and you can pick two set booster packs to open instead of playing for prizes. An employee that was off work went to pay, and I went up right behind him. He grabbed two Ixalan set boosters, then changed his mind on those two and grabbed two different ones. I immediately said I'm grabbing the ones he put back, I opened the first pack and there was a Mana Crypt, opened right in front of him 😂
Wow man whenever he put them back the odds went up tremendously, you had to immediately snipe

Idk how but i purchased two boxes and hit a neon mana crypt in one and a regular foil in the other!

FYI Mosasaurus was a real animal, but it's not a dinosaur. It was a marine reptile during the time of the dinosaurs. It's closest living relatives are monitor lizards like the Komodo Dragon

Bought 7 packs from the same box at my lgs pulled a extended caver of souls, a green neon ink extended cavern of souls, and an extended multi color mana crypt! 🤯
A mosasaurus was a very real animal but being fully aquatic made it technically not a dinosaur, as to be a dinosaur one had to be landbound- not flying and not aquatic

So somehow my local game store couldn’t get one Caves of Ixalan collector box because of “delays” but somehow multiple pack opening channels like this one have been getting tons of product? How does that work? Sounds about right from the big folks in the ivory tower.
Is your store a wpn? They can open for patrons but can't send them or mail then fill release day..
I thiz it's lame because the cards that are open on CZcams makes it harder to pick up singles you like.

Dumb question here. Are these packs purchased by other players and just opened by these guys? That’s my assumption, but the real question is why? I wouldn’t want someone opening my packs, do they get a deal for doing this?
This video is a little older so you won’t have patrons answering. If you want direct answers, post again in tomorrows vid when it goes live. But I can give you just a few reasons why:
- We are a wpn store and do early openings
- Patrons have good jobs that require them to travel a lot. They don’t have free nights to just go to their LGS and crack packs. When they do get home, they want to enjoy their time sorting collections of an extremely wide range of sets and relax at home.
- Variety of packs
- sealed boxes and cases opened on camera, no funny business buying from part boxes
-yes our prices are competitive
- trade with other patrons before your cards are sent out
- buylist directly with us, moving cards with zero risk because they’re already ‘at the store’
- entertainment value of watching your packs be opened in a vid, then you get to open them again once delivered automatically every month
That’s just what I can think of off the top of my head while dinner cooks. Every patron has their own reason and as open breaker spots fill in less than 10 minutes, there’s a lot of reasons ;)

Is WotC trying to find new customers?
It doesn't look like it. It looks like they are, only, trying to get more money out of the same group of people eternally. If they aren't finding new customers, then what does that say about the future of our card values? At some point won't we just run out of people who are invested in buying the cards?
Perhaps it's time to release Portal 4.

Personally I feel WOTC are doing a really good job lately at getting new players: Universes Beyond does depart from traditional MTG, but that's the point. It targets a whole new audience. LOTR definitely brought in new players, we hear it almost weekly at the store and it's a good feeling.
As far as reprints, they certainly go too far on some of them, but newer players having access to older stuff like Imperial Seal is great. Keeping buildable staples like Doubling Season also affordable to new players keeps players playing. With the backlash on M30 (and rightly so) I think they've learned not to touch the RL. Time will tell of course!
