    Watching that altimeter climb, knowing your getting closer and closer. The plane levels out and you get that zero G feeling. Watching the line in front of you exit the plane. All climbing anxiety. Then when you exit, pure peace. The loudest thing you’ve ever experienced. Then you pull the chute and utter calm. The serious feeling as you start doing your pattern. 1000% focus when you flare. Then the second you touch the ground and run it out, it’s like all the weight on your shoulders is lifted. And you can’t wait to manifest again.
    That’s why I skydive.

    The transition from being scared to jump and not being able to live without jumping is remarkably rapid. I spent a decade of my life and many $ that could have been used more sensibly. Yep...For me, it's the opening of a canopy and landing. But this is mostly present when I am not consistent in jumping. I have learned a new technique which I will implement next time, its called 'The 4-7-8 breathing technique,' also known as “relaxing breath". So all you have to do is: breath in for 4 seconds, hold the breath for 7 seconds, and start exhaling for 8 seconds. This helps with anxiety (and sleep). :)

    I got this mad thought in my head to do a skydive last July. I went Indoor Skydiving first simply to try to get the idea out of my head! It didn't work so I booked a 10,000ft tandem skydive. On the day I was super scared but all of my fear was on the ground. I even went back to my car and seriously thought about driving home but knew that I would regret doing that and that I would keep coming back until I jumped. Fortunately for me as I got kitted up the fear went away and didn't return so I was relaxed in the plane and in the air! I did my 2nd tandem skydive from the higher height of 15,000ft last weekend and despite a 6 hour wait for my flight I experienced no nerves at all!

    I just started this year and have only done 3 tandems. I get all nervous, but I’m most nervous as soon as the parachute deploys and then I am under canopy.
    Freefall doesn’t bother me at all, though. It’s just VERY mentally overwhelming trying to check your altimeter about every 3 seconds, then know when to lock onto it and deploy. Plus trying to keep a proper posture (arch). It’s omg so overwhelming. But the more I do it, the easier that will get.
    I WANT to go further. But of course my mind always worries excessively about a slim chance worst case scenario of “what if” I have a rig malfunction and cannot correct it in time. I am also PETRIFIED at the thought of piloting a canopy on my own.
    So that’s why I haven’t taken my AFF course yet. I need to do more tandems and get more comfortable with being up there in the air with it being so new to me. To me, it’s the smart thing to do. I just want to be as safe of a skydiver as possible, and be as well informed as possible.
    Any advice would be most appreciated! :) Sure love your videos. They help a lot.

I’ve found skydivers to be so encouraging and professional that I loosen up right away. I expect my first jump not attached to an instructor to be a very different experience when it comes to fear though.

    We fly in an old plane with the door open, and when it hits a hot air current the pilot circles around it to gain altitude faster. I hate when I am next to the door and I see the planet at a really scary angle, I just can't wait to jump out of it so I can feel safe.

    @Aileen0826s Před 5 lety +6

    My most scared moment is when the plane is about to reach its position and when the door opens, when the cold air rushes in, when I have to get in position and get ready to jump. I always feel like just by standing next to the door, the wind is strong enough to blow my off the plane lol (but I’m jumping out of it anyway so why am I nervous lol)
    I’m half way though my AFF course and got stuck at stage 5 because I couldn’t keep my body position right for my instructor to let go of me and I had the most incredible out of control experience with my first attempt of stage 5... I’d still do it and won’t give up. People ask me why I do it, all I can say is that it’s something so amazing that you’ll have to do it at least once to get the feeling. Words are too plain for descriptions.

    Haha I still remember my first actual solo jump off from AFF. I progressed AFF in 7 jumps so my 8th (did AFF6 and 7 that same day) was my first solo jump. For some reason I was one of the first to exit the plane and was seated right next to the door which wasn't where I wanted to sit at all because I already was nervous as hell so sitting next to the plexi glass slide door wasn't ideal imho (we jump a Cessna Grand Caravan). So this other guy in the plane told me after I expressed my reservations about sitting at the door "great you can open the door then when it's time to jump" and I was like "like hell I will". When it was the time, someone else opened the door and I jumped, first out or second can't really remember, during skydive I really had no idea what to do so I just fell watching the ground and nothing more (of course checking alti).

    She's 100% correct, it never actually goes away. It becomes less severe and you get used to it somehow. Also, there are moments where it peaks during an actual jump and there are points where it completely dissapears exactly like she mentions. I guess it depends from person to person to me it was at exit and also when deploying chute but not at landing. However, when I swoop it's when I initiate my turn to dive down but then not when actually landing (even when going really fast). Also, one interesting point, I'm nervous at the exit but when I hang out the plane with me completely outside (usually waiting for the other to come in position and waiting for the in-out signal) I'm having a total blast and there's no nervousness.

      Take it step by step. When you get to the DZ don't think about the jump at all. Just think about the first step in the process and get through that then move on to the next and so forth. The people working there should put your mind at ease. The jump itself is not scary whatsoever. Once your out the plane the last thing on your mind Is fear, falling, or heights. I will say the jump will literally take your breath away. So gather some tips on breathing during the jump. Or have a friend drive down the highway and stick your head out the window.

    Hi guys, looking for some advice. I've just completed my second static line jump today, but the fear seemed to be slightly worse this time - namely the moment where the jump master says 'Okay, you're up!' and I sit on the edge. Essentially the few moments just before the jump are VERY frightening.
    Under canopy I'm fine, it's almost boring in comparison to those few seconds until the chute opens. But something is worrying me.
    I really want to be having more fun from the rush, but the fear is dominating too much. I'm overthinking things. And after my jump today, I went home not happy, or elated, or hyper, but really, really flat. Felt more like depression.
    I want to keep going in the sport in the hopes of gaining some resistance to the fear of getting ready to leave the plane. Know I've only done two jumps, so I was wondering, is this common? Does the sport take some getting used to before you love it? Because right now, the dread of doing it again is outweighing the psyche.
    Any and all help, especially similar experiences, would be a massive help. Thanks guys.

      You might have a chemical imbalance and you're depleting your brain from endorphins if sky diving or other high adrenaline activity leaves you depressed you might want to see a Dr .. or maybe it's just different for you as it is for everyone. Just try to remember when you exit the plane all your fears goes away and smile when you're in the air believe me that works . If you suffer from anxiety or depression when your not skydiving there's no shame in seeing a Dr tho buddy it happens to everyone at one time or another in life it could be something as simple as your diet or if your drinking or on any prescription drugs or other drugs that can cause depression to . Skydiving causes anxiety at times but it shouldn't cause depression

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  Před 4 lety +3

      In fact, you usually don't feel that stomach dropping feeling. The reason is that you are not accelerating to the rate of a rollercoaster for example. Moreover, since the plane is flying forward, the wind due to its speed makes you not even feel that much the weightless moment. Lastly, at 14000 feet, you are so high that you dont get the "ground rush feeling" that can scare you or give you vertigo. Really, if you end up trying it, you'll kick yourself not to have done it earlier. 😉🙌

Skydiving is fun and free ( You are only paying for the plane ride) Dying ain't the bad part of jumping being a cripple that someone has to tend to IS. If you can accept being in a wheel chair or stuck in a bed then jump. Otherwise, for the money I advise learning how to fly. When your old you will have a skill and something more than a ratty old F-111 rip stop parachute to show for your time and treasure spent. Only folks that make money jumping are Paratroopers and Smoke Jumpers and that ain't a heck of a lot for the risks...
