The PDF you talk about at the beginning of this lesson is so incredible, it's exactly what I've been looking for. A nice wide foundation to build a temple on. If drumming is like learning a new language then this PDF is like a basic phrasebook. I can now ask where the bathroom is and order a simple meal in Drummish!
Nice analogy 😂
I think that you’re by far the best drum instructor on CZcams. Thanks for doing these.
I just signed up for drumeo and I’ll probably be doing the “money back” thing honestly. It’s a great platform with excellent instructors but even with the guided method there’s just way too much to narrow down. I enjoyed the self directed style with supplemental expertise by channels like this a lot more. By far the most practical and useful drum instruction channel on CZcams imo
Always excellent, informative, and incredibly planned video lessons. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the encouragement, I was ready to give up.
Another thorough practical and informative less so motivating for a mostly beginner drummer Thanks
TY man, your lessons are really keep me reaching and growing. And ty for the PDF.
Thank you, Stephen. The „Tomgroove“ Song for me is Wheel in the sky , Journey! 😊
Always appreciate your stuff. Thank you.
Tom grooves: who doesn't immediately think of Come Together? Or Ticket to Ride? Some other great examples: Wooden Horse by Suzanne Vega; Pull me Under by Dream Theatre; Part Zero by The Pineapple Thief
Thank you Stephen. Pretty good lesson. The first song, that comes to my mind when talking about toms is Gary Glitter's Rock And Roll
Lov.e this video,Stephen,very informative. A bit of a breakthrough lesson,I think.
Who You Say I Am has some fun Tom stuff in it….Great stuff! Thank you!

Nice like this 👍good explanation in Steps that's makes it easier to learn.
'Spoon man' by Soundgarden 😉
"Your Love Never Fails" comes to mind, by Jesus Culture! Love their music. Keep playing worship music, brother. That is my goal with drumming. Very cool you stated that here in your video lesson -- which was extremely helpful and inspiring. Thanks, again!
The first song that comes to my mind would be the Waymaker. I've been practicing this for some time.
My tom groove song is BRMC version of "Let the day begin"
This fits well with a book called Syncopated Rolls for the Modern Drummer by Jim Blackley
For me tom grooves makes me think of "you could be mine" by Guns'n roses
Me too. Love that intro & groove. Always teach that to students. T2 a classic too!
“Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode 🥁
CREAM WHITE ROOM. Tom grooves are practically Ginger Bakers legacy. (Imho)
Thanks!
I need to ask...how would you approach reading a song for the first time. I can read the note values and understand their notations but when I see a song being played with the drum notation attached, I really REALLY battle to keep up, even along with a slow song!
How would you recommend I change this please?
I'm a 20 year-long drummer and "know" some complex s*** but I really battle to read it and apply it in real time.
Any suggestions/videos?
WMA By Pearl Jam is a very cool tom groove.
✌️
on my Drums page on my website on my channel, do a find on FILLS - then look for Motion Studies.
You will have a blast.
