    living in the northeast, Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires are the best snow tires you will ever buy. ive used a few of them on multiple vehicles. My Evo was a beast in the snow with them. Wife's Honda Pilot same result. Im not surprised you love their offroad tires.

    Nokians are good but if you ever decide to go bigger and want a good sticky tires, I have ran milestar patagonia mt’s and they are excellent in ever terrain very quiet on the road to. I was at Moab with them a couple months ago and even without airing down they were very grippy and didn’t slip once on the rocks. I did hells revenge, Kane creek and poison spider.

      Nice. Yea plenty of sets to compare grip with. I’m impressed by the side walls though. For desert running nothing really exist yet than can be comparable in under a 37” tire size

  • @Jason-bd5iq
    @Jason-bd5iq Před 5 lety +2

    There are some after market fenders that allow 35’s. I’ve seen one person running 37’s just by trimming the stock fenders, taking a hammer to the body mounts etc.

    I think I would rather do a 1" level and some minor plastic trimming to fit 33's. Watching you cut fenders is painful. I guess this was probably a cake-walk after cutting to instal the AEV snorkel though.

    • @420motors

      Lol. It’s mandatory for me. I refuse to do a lift because o want to preserve or improve the center of gravity. Rather trim sheet metal than end up on my side trying to drift lol. But yea the snorkel was worse.

    Do full size trucks have bigger wheel wells? Maybe we could cut the fenders the same size as the full size and use the plastic around a full size truck to make a perfect fit without the heat gun? I mean if they are bigger I don't even know if that would work or if they are completely different

    • @420motors
      @420motors  Před 5 lety +3

      The thing is that it’s not really worth it. All you wed to trim is in that section. Proof of concept zr2 had 33 inch tires. The location of that single tab forced it to go to 31. So no need to trim any more than that

  • @madcratebuilder
    @madcratebuilder Před 5 lety +2

      It looks like those plastic pieces that are used to hold the tabs are “soldered” on to the fender flares. I did the same and one came partly loose. They have those little holes all over the place and I believe they were melded with heat to the fender flares... I used a solder gun and “re-attached” it. Not pretty, but seems sold.

    @ghuron13 Před 5 lety +3

    Great video. Best trimming info out there by far. What's the actual size of those tires? I'm getting new wheels and I cant decide on tire size. Debating between 265/70r17 or 275/70r17. I'm thinking the 265s wont cause any rubbing but the 275s might.

    • @420motors
      @420motors  Před 5 lety +2

      They are 265 70r15. With aftermarket wheels. After trimming I get no rubbing and can fully tuck them. The rear barely touches under extreme articulation so yea 275 might need some stiffer coils or a perch or leveling kit

    • @ghuron13
      @ghuron13 Před 5 lety +2

      @@420motors damn. Good to know. I do have a 1" leveling kit but maybe I'll just stick with the 265's anyway. If I'm being honest I'm still a little chicken to trim

    • @420motors
      @420motors  Před 5 lety +2

    • @420motors
      @420motors  Před 5 lety +1

      All offsets will. So any wheel you go with unless you custom order stock dimensions you will get rubbing. But originally I didn’t. Had 95% used tires up front and brand new in the rear. When I rotated them is when the rubbing started. So it’s only a temporary problem.

  • @walkerl2482
    @walkerl2482 Před 2 lety +1

    theres no way id hack out the fenders on my new truck to fit a 1 inch taller tire... there's got to be a affordable lift out there that would allow for 33's to stuff in there. im waiting on my 2022 zr2

    • @420motors
      @420motors  Před 2 lety

      Your not wrong. And depending on use you might be able to get more gains. If you abuse the truck your gotta do more practical mods though. It is a minimal lift as you said but for performance reasons. Don’t want to throw off balance too much. I like sliding around a lot so don’t want bigger tires than 32. But plenty of people looking to stuff much bigger tires. Honestly depends how you like to drive. Would be higher and bigger tires if I liked crawling more but I tend to avoid that. I just like driving fast in corners and jumping so build it to that.

      Lmao. He might be on a road trip. And yea I love them. But I am conflicted. For crawling and desert running they are amazing. On the dirt tracks at cal city though they aren’t very fast. Not designed for lateral grip. Need softer tires for that. But soft tires aren’t tough. So in zr2 size because of lack of options they are amazing tires. Once you get to 37’s and bigger I would have to go with bfg kr3’s. But that’s a race tire and not street legal so says a lot about the nokian tires actually

      Shoot good thing about Toyota is that aftermarket parts are abundant. You don’t need a full build. You can do a lot with bolt on mods but be fooled into thinking that’s cheap either. Don’t see a whole lot of built Tundra’s old man emu and total chaos make a bunch of good things for tacos, I would start there. Basically what your looking for is an upgraded rear axle. You can work on your current one. Regear and add an air locker. Trust it for strength and get a dealer style leaf pack. Bump stops and small bed cage for protruding shocks. Up front your gonna be looking at some expensive options also. A mid travel kit should do. Maybe some bump stops and probably 3 inch shocks up front and 3.5 on the rear and your good. You will want to pull abs and traction control fuses as well as upgrade breaks. If you want a builder the best tundra raptor killer I’ve seen was made by kibbitech. We actually have it on a video czcams.com/channels/hBFUIa2w-1FOmYexcjxbOQ.html

    A level lift, body lift or 4 inch BDF lift will not have you trimming your fenders and heat gunning your fender flares. And when I do something to my car or truck, I want it to be perfect.

      Then don’t watch do it yourself videos. Also I like to drive. I like to drift and I like to do it at high speeds. So why would I want to ruin the center of gravity by doing a 4 inch lift.

      Look, there’s no need for you to get all pissy. I’m just saying that no one I’ve seen cuts their fender, and if they did, I’m sure people would do it a hell of a lot cleaner then that.
