      Next round, foster her eggs or don't let her rear chicks for more than 2 weeks

    Very imformative thankyou. Im still fairly new to breeding. How common is it that males dont feed the chicks? I bred 2 rounds with a pair and the malr never fed the chicks. So when she started laying for the 3rd time I removed the male and she kept feeding the chicks. He only wanted to feed the hen and mate with her.

    • @Budgerigar
      @Budgerigar  Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you. Some males only feed the hens and the hens can then feed the babies but some males go in the nest box and feed the babies directly when chicks are over a week old. If your male is not attacking the chicks then it’s better to leave the male with chicks and take the hen out especially when this is her 3rd round as you shouldn’t breed hen more than 3 rounds in one season. Keep an eye on male for couple of hours after taking the hen out and if he hasn’t started feeding the chicks then you can always introduce the hen back in the cage.

    Do you use any water supplements to increase your birds vigour during the breeding season?

    • @Budgerigar
      @Budgerigar  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I use calcium and vitamin D3 supplement in water and occasionally vitamin E with selenium.

      @@Budgerigar Thank you for your response. Can I ask for the name and brand of the water supplements you use, as well as the frequency you use each of them, ie daily or 3 times per week, etc?
      Many thanks!

    Hi sir I need to ask u something
    My budgie lay eggs but all eggs was infertile it's the 3rd they lay infertile what I do?

  • @beba9452
    @beba9452 Před 10 měsíci

    What if the hen already laid an egg in the nestbox among the chicks? If you move her to the new cage she probably will lay egg nr 2 before you give her the new cock. Will she continue to lay with the new cock and how to know which cock is the father?

      @Budgerigar  Před 10 měsíci

      It can get tricky but can be handled by an experienced breeder. I'll make a detailed video on this situation soon.

      @@Budgerigar If she attacs the chicks, which happens now and then, I usually just put the hen back in the flight to cool her down before another round. But sometimes they get out of condition and can be hard to get back, sometimes they even begin to moult and then one has to wait for a long time. There isnt that many breeding rounds in a show budgie so this tip is quite interesting.
