- Looking after orphaned baby monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THE PRIMATE PET TRADE! Some of these animals were rescued after people tried to keep them as pets. The pet trade in primates is cruel, and causes suffering - please do not support it. Despite what you may be told there are NO primates that are suitable as pets.
As they grow stronger and more independent, they are eventually integrated with a suitable adult female foster-mother and become less reliant on humans. Eventually the orphans are released into the wild if possible or into a 2-3 hectare outdoor enclosure.

@TheGlacier77 Once they are grown up enough that they don't need people, we integrate them into a troop of older monkeys into an enclosure where they live a natural life. We are currently working on locating release sites for our troops.
I think you've missed the point of this video. These monkeys are at a rescue centre because their parents were killed so that someone could take them from the wild and keep them as pets. There is not a single primate that is suitable to be kept as a pet. I spent 3 years helping to rehabilitate rescued monkeys and the ones kept as pets were always difficult due to the psychological problems they suffered as a result of their captive lives.
Awe you're so awesome for volunteering your time for such an amazing cause. Hugs to you :D
Looks like that one little guy's thinking "MY camera! MINE!" So cute!
What a trip, a whole gang of babies. They don't seem to make much noise. Setting around with that many little monkeys I would think you'd get pissed on alot, I bet you smells great at the end of the day. It all looks like fun. Wouldn't that many monkeys make their own troup ? Cool video....
Thanks for your love and hard work to support this little Innocent babies.
I think there were around 8 or so when this was taken. Anywhere from 10-20 orphans arrive each year during baby season.
they are adorable !!!! lucky you
I think the ones that have been released into the wild or into our 2-3 hectare outdoor lowveld enclosures, or the ones who have been rescued / confiscated from homes where they have literally been tortured or starved, would disagree that the work we do is pointless.
Ah! I didn't know you put this one up. YAY!
Good to see some footage of JJ, I didn't get any :(

Cutest little creatures
I dont support the pet trade, I have adopted a monkey but he is not locked up in a cage he is a companion I take him with my family everywhere we go
Dictionary definition of pet: any domesticated or tamed animal that is kept as a companion and cared for affectionately. Your monkey is a pet, which is as bad as supporting the pet trade because the outcome is the same - a wild animal being kept in conditions it is not suited to. I can't begin to count the number of ex-pet primates I have seen with psychological problems as a result of being humanised. If you want the best for your pet, take it to a rescue centre where it can be cared for properly and given the chance to live a natural life with other members of their own species.
they're so sweeet :)
Looking forward to meeting you!

No you don't. They grow the size of a small dog & they have 2 inch sharp teeth. They live 25 years. Listen, at any sanctuaries, you will hear so many stories of abandonment. Go look at Jungle Friends Primate sanctuary website.
