I love it, used it a lot, for teaching classes, working on a desk as well as on a tripod.

I purchased his 10x12 lite pochade box. In my opinion he makes the most perfect pochade boxes, regardless of size.

@TheFutureLooksGrimm Thanks for your comment, I agree it is very nicely put together and I especially like how the strong magnets snap everything into place.

Thanks for your comment. I will keep this one as I do really like it, but I am glad you have created something that works best for you. I have several different setups and I rotate, depending on the situation. All the best, Laurel.

It’s beautiful. I hope you enjoy it. I have the Yellowstone. Let me know what tripod you’re using. I have a Bonfonto. It’s not the best. I’ve used it’s 3 times and becoming increasingly wobbly. I also had a hard time finding a backpack for mine due to the size. I did find one. It’s fabulous. Love to hear about your adventure. Please let me know. I love my Alla Prima. It smells wonderful and the palette is getting a nice patina

Hi Kim! How do you like your Yellowstone? Sorry for the delay in replying to you!
I use a Manfrotto 7322CY tripod. It was expensive at the time, but I was already paying a small fortune to fly to Alberta and stay in the Bugaboos at a Lodge up in the mountains, for a heli-painting trip of a lifetime, so the cost for that seemed minimal in comparison lol. It has been a great investment as I am still using it a decade later for both painting and photography/video.
I am glad you found the right backpack for your setup!
I love using the box just sitting on a table too and it has served me well as a demo easel for classes when I teach. Happy painting :)

Laurel McBrine Art Hello Laurel! I love my Yellowstone but I wish now I would have purchased the Yellowstone Light. The Yellowstone is heavy, wide and it’s been difficult to find a tripod for. I have a Bonfonto. I fear it won’t last. It moves around a lot while painting. I’m not one to stand at my easel and paint so I have it sitting low so I can sit. I think the Yellowstone light would be easier to manage and manipulate to go from sitting to standing. It was a big investment but it’s beautifully handcrafted. I will have it a lifetime for sure. You are the 2nd person to recommend this tripod. Thanks for the response and keep on creating ✌️❤️🎨🎼

Thank you for your demonstration and review of this box. I'm considering making my own, so it's very interesting :)

You are welcome! I have made a few cigar box pochades using paint sticks and wooden chopsticks. All the best on your paint box, I would love to see what you come up with!

@icthruu4evr It is actually pretty good - I carry it along with my tripod and other supplies in a day pack. You can get a less bulky version custom made, without the drawer and that only carries two panels, if you want something more compact.

Agree with mike . Was about to say the same thing, I.e. problems with bad fitting, starting with wobble . Good review.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I have ended up mostly using this box on a tabletop and to do demos for classes although I haven’t had any problems using it on a tripod - perhaps it is down to the type of tripod?

    @mcbrineart  Před 13 lety

    Hi Carolyn,
Glad you found it helpful! Another option, more compact is a "lite" version with separate panel holder + carry paint tubes in separate tupperware container. I really like my version which fits in a daypack. My tripod is a carbon fibre (Velbon, I think) pretty compact and light, but the least expensive version

Sorry to everyone who might have tried to find the e-book mentioned - it does not seem to show up on mobile devices. Now that I know this, I am trying to have it fixed, but in the meantime, if you can get to a computer, the offer will show in the right hand column as you scroll down. Thanks for your patience and happy painting!

Sorry, I have no idea. I would imagine it might be pricey. I would contact the website of the company - google "alla prima pochade" to find it quickly. Hope that helps and happy painting!

Hi thanks for your video review. I'm looking for my first pochade and your film really helped. How do you like it? Do you have any other brands of pochades? what kind of tripod do you use? THANKS!!!

Hi there, so sorry I missed your comment! I have another one now that hooks up to a tripod also and is in two parts with the tray for paint and the part that holds the panel separate. I like that one too, but it just depends on the situation which one I pick to use. I also have a half box French easel that is handy for other situations.

I am still enjoying this box and actually use it more on my tabletop to paint small, daily oil paintings than with a tripod for plein air (it is cold here in Canada in the winter and I admit to being a fair weather outdoor painter).

Thanks for the video. Nice and straight-forward demonstration without distracting music. I really like the video - informative and to the point. So much so that it is shows all the problems with that particular box. First, it is warped and wobbles on the table indicating either poor construction or poor choice of material. Second problem is the hinges. Although they will probably loosen up with use, they are, again, a poor quality hinge because they are much too tight. The box should also close completely, but the hinges are set so the lid has to be forced the last bit to engage the catch. There should be no effort involved in opening or closing the box the first or any time it is opened. Not really knocking the box, but, after looking at the prices on the Alla Prima's and looking at the box in the video is is plain that they are way overpriced. Again, I like your video and it showed me what not to buy.

Mike L The box wobbles because of th e tripod mount, I think. The hinges are deliberately strong because this design relies on keeping the lid up without needing side rail supports like some other designs. Given that this box is designed for tripod mounting and to withstand some windy outdoor conditions, these design points seem fair.
