- In this video, I will show you how to use the box link plate to install a functional auto retracting stainless steel ratchet strap. This modification is pretty involved however, it is so convenient to have the straps ready to go whenever you need them. If you change trucks, you could simply take the plate along with you. In this video, I show you everything you need to do this project.
Here’s a list of materials along with links for some of the products
You’ll need Stainless Steel nuts and bolts appropriately sized for the strap retainer. You’ll also need an extra set of washers for the back plate of the ratchet strap bolt. You’ll need some Loctite. A hacksaw or grinder. And some general tools.

This is the website for rad truck straps. I only purchased the hook plates and stainless steel screw kit from them. radtruckstraps.com/

Thanks!
just bought a ranger raptor today, started watching your channel like two days ago, I really like your videos man! keep up the good work. I'm learning so much from you
Thank you so much! Appreciate that. Congratulations on the new ranger raptor!
Great idea 💡 picking up my Raptor tomorrow and one of the mods..
Right on!
Great idea. I had the same feeling about the loading on the nose of the ratchet and single bolt connection. The guide is a perfect solution. I wound up buying Augo two hook self retracting straps. They look identical to yours other than a solid pin on the back and the extra strap and hook. I'm going to cut the extra hook off and leave the strap as my anchor point for the rare case where I strap back to the ratchet mount.
Nice! Sounds like it’s going to be great. Thank you for the comment.
I like the strap guides. I've been thinking about mounting E-Track connectors to the ratchet strap instead which are compatible with the box link bracket.
I miss that from my Tacoma.
By longer bolts and once you bolt them down instead of using a grinder to cut them off heating up the nylock nuts just use a pair of pliers and bend back and forth. They will break off right at the nut.
Great tip! Thanks!
That turned out awesome!! Thinking of a way i can rig this ide up to accommodate two straps at each location or at least the front to tie down my dirt bikes in my Raptor
Maybe get a machine shop to cut a plate that’s wide enough for two straps.
It's awesome your sons have a great father like you sir. I guess this is a strange comment, but w.e.
Thank you! I appreciate your comment!
Nice
Thanks!
Installed bullrings yesterday. I like my 350's interior bed hooks, (and would def get use out of static ratchet straps like yours), but once the bed's loaded with lumber or whatever, I can't reach the hooks to move the straps out of the way very easily when trying to unload quickly at the dump. Ford needs to move the interior hooks to better locations that can be reached when the bed's loaded.
Agreed. I’ve run into that problem. Also, the truck is so tall and it’s hard to reach down over the top of the bed.
interesting and well done... kinda makes you wonder why they don't just make a mounting plate just like yours that bolts right up, with the strap thread vs needing all he "mods" (and without the hearts)
Ego lol. They like their product the way they made it.
2 screw out of 4 on each bracket broke on me, I wish ford put some anti seize on those screws.
That sucks! I’ve heard that they rust in place. I watched a CZcams video that said first thing take them out and replace them with stainless or put anti-seize. Sorry you’re dealing with that. Hope the rest of the project goes well.
Great Video, just recieved the straps from amazon. I was worried because i have built right bedside molle pannels. Fited perfectly!... Just need to find a way to cut off or goto home depot to find shorter screws. what size were drill bit?
I want to say quarter inch but I’m not 100% sure. Thanks for the comment! Good luck with the project
@@bobbygfl thanks, everything went great, but looks like my builtright molle pannel needs to be cut few inches. waiting for milwaukee grinder.
Love what you did... How's everything holding up after several month of useage? Are the Auto Retract Marine ratchet straps working well after being exposed to sun, rain, etc.? Thanks!
Working fine. They are under a cover but they have been washed several times and had sand in them. But retract just fine. Thanks!
Thanks for reporting back... SUch a awesome mod!! Thanks for sharing!!! @@bobbygfl
Thanks!
Where can I find the full parts list?
The parts are in the description. Thanks!
Do they only make these for the Ford?Pick ups, please comment back.Or could I get them for a chevy
Rad only makes them for ford that I can see. But you can purchase the stainless steel ratchets from Amazon and mount them anywhere.
@@bobbygflWould you happen to know the name of them
Tough listen 😂
Thanks!
