Yes indeed!
Its not a tutorial its a Masterclass!
My next t-shirt text! Thanks 😃
@@botvidsson I can sign that, it is a masterclass, you are helping me a lot - I am a full time wedding photographer, but let´s be honest - photography is a huge area to be educated in. And it is very hard to get a real mentor on such level. Thank you, I am so grateful that I have my knowledge from you, means a lot to me, because I am pursuing my unique kind of life thanks to that. The very best of from the Czech republic! Martin

Glad you like it!
Martin, your tutorials are fantastic... keep up the great work. Sub-ing now.
Thanks a lot! And thanks for supporting the channel!
I discovered your channel this week and your tutorials are awesome! It would be great if you could make videos on how you retouch but not a speed retouching. Keep on going. I really like your work!
I will try to do that, because I love Photoshop and retouching. Right now I have little time, but when things slow done I might go back to full retouching videos. Thanks a lot!
Damn, that’s cool, I’ll use this technique in my next project
Владимир Шмаков Great! Please share if you take a shot. Thanks!
Awesome tutorial ! Thank you ! Could you do a video about pricing ?
Thanks man! Pricing, great idea but complicated stuff... Really need to plan that video with script, I will put it on my list. 😎
Priceless. Thank you very much Martin
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Botvidsson! Really enjoyed following your process and how much light played a role in creating the effects you ended up with

Hi.
Coffee is back. Nice.
A question: how did you manage to have the shoes cords in that position? I couldn't see any line tied to them or a c-stand to have them tied to. Thanks. And, please, keep up with you videos. They are great.
Yes, hehe. COFFEE! Sorry I forgot to talk about that. There are two c-stand-arms with fishline attached to the shoe strings. Just on top of the shoe. Thanks gustavo.
The fishlines 😉 sthlm.in/nike.gif
Great lesson, thanks)
Spasiba!
@@botvidsson Wow) Tack
Just subs ! This the channel I was looking for !! So good ! keep up the good work !
Welcome to the channel Michel! Lovely to hear.
Finally feeling confident in my ability to branch out into shoes. If I'm shooting black shoes do you think it's better to take a different approach? I have a pair of unused black Adidas trainers I wanted to experiment with.
No I think I would go for the same lighting technique. I might go for a brighter background so the shoe will not blend in to the background. If the overall shadows are too dark I would hit the shoe with a huge soft light to bring the shadows up a tiny bit. I often just shoot a flash into the white ceiling and let it "rain" down onto the set.
Good luck!
@@botvidsson Perfect, thank you!
U r always amazing bro.
Thank you so much 😀
Great important post, where you make the main focus, really makes me happy for its necessary of importance.
After all it is a great article with everything. Thanks in advance for posting it.
Thanks!
Fantastic as always, thank you!
Thanks Iuri!
Oh I love this guy! He is so cool! Many thanks for your input. In this corona days I was try to shoot a product picture of a parfume bottle "missoni"... Frontal perspective, black background, something to shine through ... but failed for the time being 😉
Black background sounds hard. Maybe try a diffusion with light from the back? Thanks!
Really helpful
Glad it helped

AWESOME, as every of your vids!
Thanks man!
fantastic work congrats!!!!! i see you
Thanks!
Can you do a tutorial on the best way to remove the fishing line from the shoe or from the iPhone in your other video? Thanks!
Stephen Lewis I use the spot healing brush tool in Photoshop, I will see if I can do a tutorial in the future. Otherwise just search CZcams for that tool, probably Phlearn have a great tutorial.
You are amazing!
Wow, thank you!
Brilliant video - love your channel.
Thanks!!
Ive been at a bit of a block where to go with my photography. Only started 2 years ago the joy was learning how to use an slr. This is a new direction thats much needed now. I love these vids. Im going to knock up somenof my own modifiers and have a go. Please can you do some 1 flash, stuff, low tec etc. Ive hardly any money for modifiers and want to get stuck in. Thank you
Thanks 🙏 Can I ask what flash you have?
Top. Thanks for sharing.

amazing job
Thanks a lot!
yazeed alshaibani legit just made a vid like this aswell
Cool video, great process, and a ton of gear.
I wonder what would you do if you have continuous light and no snoots
I try to stay away from continuous light, hard to get the power you need for great shots. Snots I do not use that often actually, if I did not have them I just use a black foil, same result, lower cost.
wow, awesome! very professional!
i dont understand what happend with the blue/green foil. Do you have a thrid light behind the white background? what i have to do with the green foil?
more, more, more videos like this, please! :-)
I have a flash standing on the floor behind the diffusion shooting straight up. The flash has a reflector with a grid so the light will not spread out, more like a beam. What I did with the gels was very simple, I just placed them on top of the grid, just laying there blocking all the light which makes the light blue, green and with both teal blue/green.
How that make sense?
/botvidsson
finally i have time to watch this video :D
Kam Bitar great!
you are a guru
Wow, is that so? :)
THANKS!
Great..
Thanks!
You made difficult easy my dear friend! I'm being so honest here. I understand now the name of the game ( more or less though) 😁
Thanks a lot, happy to help 😀
awesome 👏🏻
Thank you!
Great tutorial! I'm just starting out in product photography and was wondering if you had a link to the transparent background you used?
Thanks. USA link: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1127278-REG/savage_46018_medium_weight_translum_backdrop.html
EU link: www.cameranu.nl/en/p673065/savage-trans-lum-152-x-549cm-mediumweight
@@botvidsson thanks so much
I just heard that the maniacs at Savage has discontinued the medium and light weight diffusion!?!?! Must sell like crazy. I recommended the medium to 1 mil photographers .
You can always get the heavy weight diffusion though, it's a bit thick and it will kill more light = you need strong flashes.
Yeah when i went to have a look at the link you sent me i noticed it had been discontinued, ill try some of the heavier diffusion. In another shoe video you use a massive softbox can I also ask if you have a link for it? Thanks again for your help

Hello Sir hope you are doing well, thank you so much for sharing this video. I have three questions with regards this shot.
1. How did the lace of the shoes stand in that particular way what was the way that you let it held up in that angle.
2. The shoe was still in all of the shot when you placed it in the C stand how to avoid it moving!?
3. Can you please share the retouching session for doing an edit on products!?
Thank you so much appreciate your work.
2.
1. Fishing line 2. It's just hanging, I don't touch it. Or how do you mean? 3. Sometimes I do retouching videos, unfortunately I don't have one for this. Thanks!
Hello sir I appreciate you replying to me over this message wo quickly thank you.
I was just wondering how can you get such shape or structure of the lace I tried doing it's turning out weired 😅.
Hence I asked.
2. 🤘🏻👌🏻👍🏻
3. Yes I was going by some retouching tutorials of yours in depth I would love to ask some questions on those videos there.
Thank you so much and kindly do share your address would love to drop by your studio post lockdown and all this pandemic situation onces resolved.

Hi, You’re truly Amazing! and i wonder how big is your studio in meters
Thank you. The office (studio) is approx 30 square meters.
we need more videos and more :D
Kam Bitar Recording a new SUB’S CHOICE episode on Wednesday, it will be a good one ☝️ 😃
Hey Botvidsson, I really like your videos !!! could you make a video on how to shoot a shiny sword or knife ?
I will but it on my list, maybe you can drop by any bring a knife and we can do a SUBS CHOICE episode together :)
@@botvidsson HAHA
If I travel from here with a knife or sword, we may set up a studio in jail :)
HAHAAAFGIOOPPJIPP!!!! 🤣🤣
thank you !
And thank you!
How do you shoot against a white background but the result is a black background? 🤔
Marc Fleddermann Yes it’s the one million dollar question... well, it’s kind of simple. If you don’t put any light on the background it will be... black. I set the camera so no ambient light will effect the shot.
I'm guessing a higher shutter speed. Or something like that.
@@fwoopie2635 Yes, max camera shutter (Canon 1/200) and then aperture high enough so the background goes black.
Wow nice video
Big thanks!
How do you get the shoe stings to stay up like that? Is it wire or something else? Please tell.
I used a fishing line and then formed the string a bit
Do you have any suggestions on front to back sharpness with larger sensor cameras? Full frame (or even medium format) seem to struggle with front to back sharpness unless you stop down to a point where you start getting diffraction. If I want to fill the frame with a shoe I struggle to get front to back sharp which can be preferable if you need to cut it out. I've tried a 90mm macro from further away, but then also getting closer with a 50mm, which presents different challenges with background or starting to get distortion as I go even shorter.
Yes it's a struggle. When I need sharpness front to back I use Tilt/shift lens (Canon) orT/S adapter for my Hasselblad, when that isn't enough I have to go focus stacking in Helicon Focus or Photoshop.
Fokusstacking! Then use e.g. Helicon Focus Pro to stitch the image together and you have front to back sharp photo. i do this with closeup jewelry all the time. i take about 40 to 60 images with my gfx and stitch it together. Fujifilm also has a great focusbracketing modus, that helps a lot, so i dont have to do manual focusstacking like in the days before
Hey monsieur. can you tell me a bit out the snoot on the flash? what god damn speed-ring is that!
Hehe, ska vi prata engelska galning. Well... it's just a regular knockoff Profoto speed ring on a Pixapro snoot. This one: www.essentialphoto.co.uk/product/pixapro-interchangeable-conical-snoot-with-honeycomb-grid-and-gels/?product_options[Speedring+Fitting]=Profoto
Skitbra! (Prova med "Boot vids on")
Ah! "vids on" var klockrent, men "bought" är närmare än "Boot" så: bought vids on SJUKT nära. Tack :)
it looks like you use white paper background. have you tried using gray paper background? Other video tutorials say gray background creates more saturated colors. what do you think?
In this shot I used a translucent background. I shot the flash from behind, a paper background would not work in this case.
When I do use paper background I prefer grey for many reasons.
Can you do jogurt shoot and some fruits?
You never know, maybe maybe 👽
Fantastic video as usual. Quick question, what are the black arms arms and knuckles shown in the centre of the screen at 13:20 in the video? You have a clamp on one holding the bounce card.
Thanks man. The black arms are Manfrotto www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/354225-REG/Manfrotto_196AB_3_196AB_3_Articulated_Arm.html
The clamp attached I found at a Swedish photo store.

botvidsson thanks for the info Martin. I’ll look at getting some. Looking forward to the next video.
Have you thought any more about doing the post processing videos yet?
Yes, I will try to find time to make retouch videos. On the other hand there is not that much retouching going on.
We'll see.
Here goes my "Like Nº 1000"
That's the way to do it people! Thanks man!
How did you make the shoelaces float ?
Hi, it's just a regular fishing line :)
wow never thought of using it before hahaha. Thank you dude your videos rocks keep it goin
What camera lens did you use for this ? And apperture ? Thank you ! 😊
Canon 100mm macro. 6.3
Your work is amazing! May I ask what camera & lens did you use? Thank you in advance
I think he's using a Canon 5D MkIII or IV and a Canon 100mm Macro f/2.8
Canon 5D Mark IV most likely. But you know... you can use any camera with the same result. Gear is only gear :)
does the temperature of the lighting matter? because i see you using a warm temperature
I do not use warm temperature, the flashes have daylight temperature, neutral. The warm yellow light you see is the modelling light in the flashes, they don't go into the photograph.
@@botvidsson Oh thankss
hi someone could tell me how the picture is black and the background is white ?
Cuz there's no light on the black areas on the white background. No light on a white background becomes black.
How did you get shoe strings to stand up
I'm using fishing line...
