    Finally feeling confident in my ability to branch out into shoes. If I'm shooting black shoes do you think it's better to take a different approach? I have a pair of unused black Adidas trainers I wanted to experiment with.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Před rokem +3

      No I think I would go for the same lighting technique. I might go for a brighter background so the shoe will not blend in to the background. If the overall shadows are too dark I would hit the shoe with a huge soft light to bring the shadows up a tiny bit. I often just shoot a flash into the white ceiling and let it "rain" down onto the set.
      Good luck!

    • @botvidsson

      I try to stay away from continuous light, hard to get the power you need for great shots. Snots I do not use that often actually, if I did not have them I just use a black foil, same result, lower cost.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Před 5 lety +2

      I have a flash standing on the floor behind the diffusion shooting straight up. The flash has a reflector with a grid so the light will not spread out, more like a beam. What I did with the gels was very simple, I just placed them on top of the grid, just laying there blocking all the light which makes the light blue, green and with both teal blue/green.
      How that make sense?

    How do you shoot against a white background but the result is a black background? 🤔

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Před 5 lety

      Marc Fleddermann Yes it’s the one million dollar question... well, it’s kind of simple. If you don’t put any light on the background it will be... black. I set the camera so no ambient light will effect the shot.

    • @fwoopie2635

    • @botvidsson

    Do you have any suggestions on front to back sharpness with larger sensor cameras? Full frame (or even medium format) seem to struggle with front to back sharpness unless you stop down to a point where you start getting diffraction. If I want to fill the frame with a shoe I struggle to get front to back sharp which can be preferable if you need to cut it out. I've tried a 90mm macro from further away, but then also getting closer with a 50mm, which presents different challenges with background or starting to get distortion as I go even shorter.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Před 4 lety

      Yes it's a struggle. When I need sharpness front to back I use Tilt/shift lens (Canon) orT/S adapter for my Hasselblad, when that isn't enough I have to go focus stacking in Helicon Focus or Photoshop.

    • @Bass_Tee
      @Bass_Tee Před 4 lety

      Fokusstacking! Then use e.g. Helicon Focus Pro to stitch the image together and you have front to back sharp photo. i do this with closeup jewelry all the time. i take about 40 to 60 images with my gfx and stitch it together. Fujifilm also has a great focusbracketing modus, that helps a lot, so i dont have to do manual focusstacking like in the days before

    it looks like you use white paper background. have you tried using gray paper background? Other video tutorials say gray background creates more saturated colors. what do you think?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  Před 4 lety +1

      In this shot I used a translucent background. I shot the flash from behind, a paper background would not work in this case.
      When I do use paper background I prefer grey for many reasons.
